Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare on XB1 has crushed blacks (pop).

You guys are going to get insane if you create a thread for every Xbox title that has crushed blacks. It has been like this since the 360 years.. It won't be changing.

Developers need to fix it and we'll keep creating threads about it every time it happens. Sorry. Don't read the thread if it bothers you.

Watching GB quicklook of NBA Live 15, and it sure as hell looks like it suffers the same fate.

Thats so bad. As someone who fickles with his TV and settings all the time to get the PERFECT picture, I don't think I could own an Xbox One without my OCD going crazy.

Where did I say that it bothers me? On the contrary, I'm really not a fan of crushed blacks... But by now, it's more of a "feature" of Microsoft systems than a bug. It won't change.

Your earlier post read as thread whining. This is a legit issue and people should speak up when it happens.

The issue with crushed blacks and the usual performance/resolution/effects difference with Xbox One games is the main reason why I get all my multiplatform games for my PS4.

The crushed blacks honestly outweighs the rest of those items too.

Why would jstevensons's response have put an end to it. All of the things he said were specifically for SO since they did not use the hardware scalar.

CoD might be using it. Or they are using the color space standard for hdtvs. What type display are you playing the game on?

One thing JStevenson did add, which seemed to be a surprise to many, is that the Limited Color Range is the Microsoft Standard for Xbox One. He was saying it will definitely crush the color if you change it to Full. The Full color range is only for when you use a Monitor that doesn't accept Limited Range. So basically, if you play on an HDTV of any kind, even if your HDTV supports a Full Color Range, you should still set the TV and Xbox One to Limited since that is what the Xbox One Supports.

He was telling everyone, first off, that you should make sure your TV and Xbox One are set to Limited. The actual brightness setting or something in Sunset is messed up, and they are going to fix it. But the Limited Setting would apply to all games.

No. And you're not the first person to ask that in this thread.

What? It is a known issue with the Xbox One since launch that blacks are simply not represented properly. The sharpening filter for the 1080p uscaler was another one, which was fixed but the blacks issue still remains.

Can you provide details?

Edit: Looking at your posts you admit that there is a gamma issue with the Xbox One and developers need to code properly to adjust for it. How is this not an issue with the Xbox One? No all games do not have the issue if developers properly adjusted for it, but the issue comes from the Xbox One in the end.

Even with the developer adjustments, games still appear darker on Xbox One than on PS4/PC.

The problem isn't the scaler..MS prefers a FUBAR gamma curve. This was a problem on the 360 as well...it's up the the developer to adjust the output of the game
Can't you adjust it or something? Maybe something like sweetfx on the xbox? Can't be that hard to implement.

Not every game crushes the blacks. Play Forza 5, Forza Horizon, Killer Instinct (after season 2 patch), Ryse etc... Many developers adjust to the gamma curve and the games looks wonderful. There was also an issue with black crush for games that use the scaler. CoD uses a dynamic resolution so they built their own scaling routine, so I'm guessing that didn't account for the XB1's specific gamma curve in this case.

When it comes to X1, it's either 1080p or black crush below it!!!

Not true. LocoCycle is in 1080p and has black crush. I believe Rayman Legends does too. It's not the same issue as the scaler in the case of those two games.

FH2 was definitely crushed when I first played it. I noticed it on the very first race with the Hurican, I couldn't see any detail on the bottom rear of the car.

Strange. I haven't noticed it at all in this game.

EDIT: Could be a dynamic contrast choice by the developer like Sunset Overdrive?

BF4 suffers from black crush on the X1. I posted an image of it on the last page.

That image might be from the prerelease video from Digital Foundry. They mentioned in the final verdict that a software scaler was used in the launch day patch. Maybe they didn't account for the gamma curve, though. I remember the game looking dark.

That is the old comparison from Digital Foundry from the Preview Event. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-battlefield-4-next-gen-face-off

Digital Foundry said:
Firstly, the brightness of the game ships at 50 per cent as default, rather than the stock 30 per cent set at the Stockholm event, meaning the image produced here now lines up precisely with the PC's. Secondly, the black crush previously seen on Xbox One is gone for the consumer-side product, meaning the colour space is now a much closer match to the PS4's.

I just want to clear up some stuff (that I'm slightly confused about):

The issue is with the XB1 or OS itself and games that don't have black crush had devs adjust for the crappy gamma settings?

I took some pics in the SO thread of the black level test so I was always under the assumption that the issue was system wide.

Is the scaler issue different or the same here?

Are people setting up there XBOX and TV settings correctly?.

Have my setting on my TV set to Dynamic Range Full and on my XB1 the Colour Space setting set to PC, the reverse would be Dynamic Range Limited and TV on XB1, and dont notice any crushed blacks...i know not every TV is capable of doing Full Dynamic range however

Full / Limited has been proven to have no effect on black crush with the xbox one, unfortunately.
