Fantasy Life |OT| Living the American Dream

Slowly getting every Life to Master. Unfortunately, some of the crafting professions require materials not available to me - is there a way to get Monster Hide in Al Majiik without progressing the story? Or maybe I'll get that Shop+ instead of bigger bag.

I'd COMPLETELY forgotten about the Shop+ perks! That's my next upgrade, lol. Thanks for the heads up. :D

Shop+ is really important. Backpack and shop upgrades should be priority for everyone.

And monster hides aren't available in Al Maajik. Not sure if you can buy them anywhere, but you'll have to progress to the last new area you can discover in the base game to find the monsters who give you monster hide.

I don't know if Shop+ is required, but Al Maajik's wood & leather shop has Monster Hides for me.

Starting a life as a tailor just to get me some stardust linen lol.

I know that feel man

I should have written that a bit different, excuse my English. I meant I didn't check my shops yet so I wasn't sure where you can buy it. But I did know how you can get out in the wild.

But now we know it's for sale in Al Maajik :p

Yep, after getting Shop+ Monster Hide appeared in shops. Overall, progression across different Lives could be weird sometimes- for example Mangrove trees are Master challenge for Woodcutters, but required for Expert Carpenters.

I've got a question that many will probably find silly. I just got to the grassy plains for the first time and was a little surprised to see some normal animals that you can attack. I was hoping that everything you can kill would be something a little scary/dangerous looking. Killing anything cutesy, especially if ut runs away when it sees you, just seems so strange in a happy game like this. So how do the enemies play out in later areas and is there any point where you are required to kill something that doesn't look like a monster?

You don't have to kill them, you can buy the mats they provide you from shops. So yeah, if you feel bad for slaying cute animals you don't have to.

Although there is one Paladin Challenge that isn't exactly pacifist friendly, especially if you've already done a certain part of the story.

I think the hardest (well, most tedious ones) were the ones that required you to get skill(s) to level 15, cook being the worst offender. Still, I got a ton of money for the stuff I made, so I can't really complain. Still having a lot of fun :)
Jeez...I'm slacking.

In my younger days, I'd have been able to do that but while the game is like crack and fun, it can be awfully tedious too.

Do we need to
kill Napdragon's children
?

I have neglected the Paladdin Life until now so I'm just trying a guess, haha

Can't choose between playing this and Smash Bros. On one hand I need to get better at Smash so I can play with my friends who are experts, on the other this game is so relaxing, I feel at peace playing it.

I had Smash on release and played it about 30 minutes. But to be fair, I'm not a big fan of the series. So it's like I care if I'm behind with my skills. They're shitty to begin with anyways.

Pre-ordered Omega Ruby today by the way. That's probably the last game I'll get this year. Unless Rune Factory still comes this year but I doubt that.

Yeah.

If you're not aiming for Legend (since you must do every challenge), you can skip it though.

It's alright, we actually already done it a few weeks ago with daydreaming (we were just searching the area and then I started attacking them as a hunter for no reason) (we were young and inexperienced back then).

But they respawn after you leave or the very next day so my conscience can rest easily haha.

Yeah I'm pretty amazed at how many time I've spent playing Fantasy Life compared to Smash. I barely touched Smash (15 hours top), I just unlocked all characters, stages and beat the classic mode 12 times or so.

I hope I'll be able to get my hype back for the Wii U version though.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
So, uh, at the bottom of that well near the Cabin in Mt. Snowpeak, I examined a piece of gold-looking stuff and this message popped up that said "You got Mercenary Insurance", or something along those lines, I forgot what it said exactly, but it wasn't an item, nor was it an accomplishment.

The fuck is that?

Maybe just flavor text? I know where you're talking about but I don't specifically remember that text.

No worries, I needed a feather anyway.

But yeah, the bosses for the combat Life special requests are absolutely nuts...
Tell me about it. Fought the Lord of the Cursed yesterday and damn was that skeleton tough. You can't even go near him without getting one-hit-KOed from each of his attacks.
Cervantes and Vulcan were dropping like flies all the time. :D

Was happy to grab some FL StreetPasses at Blizzcon yesterday but out of ten, only two of them had items attached. From a design perspective, there's a lesson there.

Funny story... this morning I saw a grasshopper in Animal Crossing and I ran over and pressed A. Ahh those twitch reaction crossovers.

They should really add a net if there comes a Fantasy Life 2 :p

Also, force people to attach a gift in order to activate streetpass. I think that's what you'e going for too with your comment on that?

I don't think it should be forced (because with how early it comes, people can be conscious of not wanting to attach crappy or carp-y items) but I think the process of setting it up isn't as intuitive as it should be. It's tucked away to begin with.

I personally might have explored having Flutter deal with StreetPasses since it deals with Bliss. Maybe have a request to update your gift at different points in the game to remind people they can attach cooler stuff as they level in their lives.

*chuckles* There's plenty of ways it could go... but you really need user feedback.

Using Flutter is pretty smart actually. Just gotta be careful not to hide it in the dialogue because I think a lot of players aren't reading every text box.

Heh. I like going with the rule that nothing is being read except the occasional Onion headline.

I should update my item. Thanks for the reminder :)

Oh man, that guy was my first special request boss and I totally didn't expect that kind of power.

I think I mentioned this a few times, but I kept dying every 10 seconds and only won because of the salesplush nearby selling Life Cures.

I "love" the attack where
it dislocates its bones and sends them spinning. The range on that attack is insane.

Haha, I heard some bad stories about StreetPass too.

Being a StreetPass geek, I always activate the StreetPass functions in every game I play ASAP and keep my details up to date, but I know not everybody is like that.

Still loving the gameplay and class system but the story... man, the story. The very long dialog sequences that go on and on... if only it were interesting.

At least the characters aren't as terrible as something like Bravely Default.

But that might have been more of a problem with the voice performances.

I imagine they would have given Flutter an awful squeaky voice, so perhaps we dodged a bullet.

Yeah, I'm glad that there isn't a long main story to this game. I've been playing for 50 hours and have only been able to force myself through chapter 3.

The localizers did a good job, it's just that everything is so dull and there is so much dialog.

I'm sorry to hear you guys saying this. I'm only four hours in so my opinion may change in time but I'm loving it so far. There's a lot of dialog but it's charming and fun. The translation is as good as any NoA translation, too. With this game I'm just looking for a really light hearted, care free story, though, so I can see people being turned off if they want something with a lot of weight and drama.

Ringabels voice actor was great though.

Just picked this game up. Question, can I only earn stars while in that life? I know I can only report in that life, but not sure about the others. Since I wanted to just grab the gathering skills while running around raining arrows on unsuspecting creatures

You can earn everything all the time. You only need to switch to report back in.

It depends on the Life Challenge. When looking over your challenges, it'll say "As a ____, do X" and that tells you you need to be that Life when performing the task (or if it's a bounty, you just need to be the proper Life when you turn it in.)

In the end, this results in most challenges being doable as a different job, except for the combat job challenges, most of which require you to be that job. And of course crafting should almost always be done on the proper job unless you're high rank and just throwing together some low rank ingots or something.

What an eventful day! I finished the story, started the DLC, achieved God rank in my Magician Life.

Oh, and Gato, Grizzo and I spent almost 7 hours in co-op. Love you guys. :D

So when do I learn to fish/chop trees/mine/etc.? Do I have to change my Life to unlock those abilities?

Yes, you have to acquire those life licenses. It's a good idea to get the gathering lives started sooner than later, but don't grind 'em out if you're not feeling like it. Just do whatever you want in the game.

From a NA perspective I think the Treehouse translation has been stellar. I'm enjoying it a lot.

Though the PAL version has has a much different script. What I've seen of it still has been cute, but it's MUCH drier than what we got in the US. They added a lot of life (heh) in the NA version.

Not exactly true, some challenges you need to be the Life itself to trigger them. (Mainly ones where you have to defeat certain minor enemies.) Plus, for the bounty cashing ones, you need to be the specific life when collecting the bounty from the clerk. (You can defeat the enemy, or gather the resource for those ones as any life though.)
