Assassin's Creed Unity - PC Performance thread

I wasn't expecting anything big because of the parity crap, but I certainly was expecting a solid 30 FPS with a 700-series GPU on a PC. I might check into this game later on, but I'm currently rocking a 780ti and running things on 1440p... so thats that.

Shouldn't have to consider downgrading my monitor to have a game running properly, since I doubt that even an SLI of 780tis won't run this without hiccups.

Just leave off TXAA and MSAA.

As you can read from the OP hed gets good perfomance with everything else maxed.

That's rather disappointing.

What affects pop-in? CPU or GPU?

Might be their dumbass LOD settings. - I was hoping this was the case...especially for all those clothing changes in the crowd...otherwise not sure you know. Seems like that's not the only problem either...

Running through Paris, with the crowds and all - I get 45-60 fps with FXAA and everything else maxed out. Some odd stuttering though, might be loading..

Runs better than Black Flag guys. lol On my machine.. at least.

TXAA in Paris = Death -- 8fps. lol So Paris is definitely alot more demanding than any prologue sequence.

That sounds really good, actually. I have a i5 4690k 3.5Gz, 8GB RAM, and 770GTX 4GB. I'm hoping that I can get 60fps @ 1080P with FXAA and high/med settings atleast.

Oh man, so this is more like a bug and not something related to the power of the consoles.

Or it's just how demanding the game is... even the PS4 had some drops in the streams I saw. Nothing big but still noticable...

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
Da fuq? Where?

And console games must gouge out your eyes if you see jaggies in that shot.

Look at the legs of the kid for Aliasing.

Look under the information "Versailles" for the muddy textures. I dunno if the OP changes images, but it's apparent there than from the OP's shot of the same scene.

What about VRAM usage EzioCroft? I'm assuming it cache whatever amount it can.

edit: and Cpu usage too! I hope it doesn't hammer one core like the last AC game do.

As someone who drops AA to FXAA or SMAA immediately with a new game, the performance with FXAA is actually really good. 45-60fps on a 780 on Ultra is great, and it surely looks much, much better than the console versions at 900p.

How the F is a 680 the minimum recommended GPU? LOL.

I got this free with my GTX 970. I've only got a Core i5 760 at 3.6ghz with 8GB Ram. Will my CPU be to weak for this game even though I'm using a GTX 970?

Your CPU will let you down, you will have to set your LOD to the minimum setting and even then I'm not sure it will cut it.

I kinda figured this game would have LOD issues. That's always been a soar spot for Anvil. Shit starts looking real bad at pretty short distances compared to some other games. And unfortunately, as far as I know, there is no way to tweak it in Anvil.

Do a comparison with 4X MSAA or *shudders* FXAA and it'll likely be clear how much less aliased TXAA is. 8XMSAA is probably better but that's a pretty dramatic performance hog.

I'm sure it does a better job, but it certainly doesn't remove "all" aliasing. Especially not at 1920x1080.

And the rails on those balcony things. It's pretty bad there. But no AA at 1920x1080 would handle that kind of detail. Gotta downsample.

Even on lowest settings I have a hard time keeping stable 60fps in the city. And it doesnt look so different (Low vs Ultra High). Guess that explains the high minimum requirements.

Here's the viewdistance for anyone curious, its a compressed screenshot and looks horrible but you'll get the gist of it. http://puu.sh/cLl4J/efb216b790.jpg

Those 2 on the left side of Arnos head popped in like a second before I took it. Disappointing

I'm not talking about fps drops. I was talking about the npcs randomly changing clothes as you approach them.

Fair enough, but I think in-motion it does by far the best job at removing aliasing outside of using SGSSAA/downsampling. There is no other AA solution which comes close in terms of performance to result.

Seems to be a more fundamental problem with the game than anything to do with the port, but it's disappointing how incredibly inconsistent this game looks.
A moment is gorgeous, a moment later is pretty bad.

Actually, I'd argue that UE4 temporal SSAA gets a comparable result with a much smaller performance impact.

I really don't mean to sound condenscending, I hope I didn't come across as such (sorry if I did) but as a 10 years old PC gamer it's really strange to see so many PC gamers having such poor (or nonexistant) knowledge of technology, this is, for better or worse, extremely useful when playing on PC.
Just look at posts immediately writing off the port because a 780 could only manage 30fps with 4xTXAA....While that's exactly how it should be.

Here you can see how taxing TXAA/MSAA are. A 780 is nowhere near 60fps on Crysis 3 with this AA, does that mean the game is a cursory PC port ?
Of course not.
Pretty much.

Hmm interesting. CPU Bound confirmed? Could you please lower the resolution to 900p and check again. If the FPS do not go up your CPU is indeed holding you back.

The fps is way better on rooftops, hey - sometimes (maxed out with FXAA) I even hit 60 for a brief amount of time lol

Barely 30fps with a GTX 780? I understand it was maxed out for testing purposes, but I doubt my R9 280X can maintain 30fps on Medium/High (1080p). I suppose this thread has definitively convinced me not to buy it. That would just be 40/50 bucks down the drain with my current hardware. Hopefully Dragon Age: Inquisition will run better.

Any more confusion about it being a shit port?

Have you mentioned what clock speed your 2600K is running at, out of curiosity?

They boost to 3.8 on default I think.

The people in this thread that is defending this shit is straight up laughable. Or rather terrible. It's sad really. Jesus effing christ folks, the game doesn't look nearly good enough to justify these performance demands.

What will it take for you to realize how bad Ubisoft treats their PC ports? 12 fps at 800x600 at low settings running on 980 sli? Jesus.

Lo and behold, I built my 1200 dollar beast just a couple months ago. And I already can't ultra a game. Feels bad.

i7 4790k
r9 290

maybe it's need for me to finally overclock

welcome to pc gaming. You don't even have a beast machine and don't overclock. Ultra use to mean you probably weren't going to get 60fps even if you had sli. Since the last generation of consoles that has somewhat gone away. I'm personally glad it is back.

Turn down some settings and you are good to play.

Now if it is just a shit port, that is a different.

The game is CPU bound on 6 Jaguar cores and drops below 30 FPS because of it.

The game is also apparently CPU bound on 4 non-OCd Sandy Bridge i7 cores and drops below 60 FPS because of that, at higher settings.

I don't think that allows for the "shit port" conclusion just yet.

Time to break out the LN2
