HBO and Warner Bros. TV are teaming to produce a series based on Isaac Asimov's “Foundation” trilogy that will be written and produced by “Interstellar” writer Jonathan Nolan, multiple individuals familiar with the project have told TheWrap.

Nolan, who is already working with HBO on “Westworld,” has been quietly developing the project for the last several months.

“Foundation” follows mathematician Hari Seldon, who has dedicated his life to developing psychohistory, a concept that uses the laws of mass action to predict the future on a large scale. When he foresees the imminent fall of the Galactic Empire and a dark age that will last 30,000 years, he sets out to create a foundation of talented artisans and engineers to preserve and expand on humanity's collective knowledge with the hope of establishing a new empire.

Well, better than when Roland Emmerich was looking into adapting it at least, lolz.

I could've sworn I read "Hal Emmerich" in the last line at first.

I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I'm a big sci-fi fan and a reader of novels in general and have never read the Foundation series. I've read 2 books of the Robots trilogy though.

I've never read anything about Issac Isimov.. is he good??

He better be considering that the laws of Robotics still used to this date are largely based off his work.

fuck that. i wanted to be the guy to do this. well, there's always I, Robot.

i'm still excited and will watch the hell out of this

Interesting. I liked the books although the first three are - as even Asimov admitted - people standing around in a single room and talking a lot. I imagine they’ll shake things up a bit for TV.

Showrunner: JJ Abrams and George Lucas

Now the scenes of talking are replaced with sick action and cool robots and CG.

Wow, we will finally get adaptation of Foundation? That's great, even better of Jonathan Nolan is making it. He did masterful job with PoI.

I feel like this is good, the worst part of Asimov stories is always the writing and now I don't have to read it.

Sounds awesome, but I wonder which books they will use. I hope they start with the original trilogy instead of the prequels.

I quite like his writing style, granted I kind of grew up on it.

Very to the point with little extra fluff. It's probably because of him I can't stand Stephen King's page long descriptions.

In the ancient days when the Galactic Empire had embraced the Galaxy, and Anacreon had been the richest of the prefects of the Periphery, more than one emperor had visited the Viceregal Palace in state. And not one had left without at least one effort to pit his skill with air speedster and needle gun against the feathered flying fortress they call the Nyakbird.

Opened my copy of foundation to a random page and pulled out a paragraph. It's functional and fine but it doesn't really do anything for me.

don't get me wrong I enjoy terse prose.

I love the Foundation series, so I'll definitely give this a look. It's going to be pretty difficult to adapt IMO.

Psychohistory predicted this!!

Wow, this is amazing news. Foundation is to Science Fiction what Lord of the Rings is to Fantasy, in my opinion.

Welp I guess this will kick my ass into finally reading Foundation, like the Game of Thrones series got me to read all of A Song of Ice and Fire.

I was reading Foundation for the first time the other day and all I could think was "Why/How hasn't this been adapted to TV/Movies yet?" Someone heard me.

ja feel. have you read any of his other work?

Ummm, robots series, prelude to foundation series, original foundation series.

I'm not saying that I don't enjoy reading his books even, rather that the plot and concepts carry me through what is otherwise unremarkable prose. Sort of like the opposite of William Gibson for me, at least in his last trilogy.

Which reminds me I need to dig into the peripheral.

Inconsistent, some stuff is great, other stuff not so much

He's a great big ideas person. I expect Nolan to really modify the story though, considering the original trilogy takes place over centuries with different characters. So they'll clean up the dialogue as well. Unless they make it an anthology, which would be even cooler.
