Assassin's Creed Unity - Review Thread

I think if a game can sink down to the single digits and there isn't anything that can be done about it, even with patches, I think it deserves a way lower score than what it should be. I think anything below 30 FPS is either distracting or if it's consistently under or well under 30 FPS, then game breaking, making me not want to play it.

It's funny how this is the first year where PlayStation doesn't have exclusive deals for this game and is pushing FarCry 4 instead.

It's like they know at PlayStation HQ what good games are...

Legit shocked. Feels like the two games they 'hyped' the most, ACIII and Unity have both turned out to be disasters. After ACIII there's no way I'm touching this one.

Shame, because Black Flag was incredible. Maybe I should look into Rogue?

One thing has been true in the past few months - be VERY wary of any game that has a review embargo AFTER the game is released.

It's kind of a shame because it did seem like they were trying to get the Assassin's Creed feeling back. I kind of got my fix with Shadow of Mordor though. Maybe I'll pick this up for cheap when the price drops. I can see it being 40 pretty quickly. I'd rather spend the money on GTA next week.

I'm really going to stop preordering games. Luckily, I only paid $30 for this game and very well may like it but to ship a game in that condition is simply unacceptable.

Have been playing Rogue for 5 hours now, and I'd say it's a great game if you loved Black Fag. The story is quite good, the returning characters left and right are awesome and every element has been finetuned just a (very) little to make it an overall enjoyable experience. The North Atlantic setting is really cool as well.

Don't get it if you just put in 50 hours of Black Flag last week, get it if you enjoy Assassin's Creed and its story overall and liked Black Flag.

That's all I needed to hear. I'll probably pick it up, enjoyed the heck out of BF last year. I'll sit out Unity and see if they fix it or ditch it and move on.

What’s worse, he and Elise share a passionate kiss while clipping through the side of his shirt, turning a touching moment into a horror show.

I'd cancel my order but Amazon already shipped it.

Oh well. I got it for $45 total instead of $70 + tax.

I was planning on getting it on pc due to the news about the framerate so put up my copy for sale on kijiji around 1030, sold it/handed it off to someone by 11. Didn't expect the reviews to be like, thought it would be getting around mid-to-low 80s. Looks like I sold it just in time, otherwise I may have had some trouble selling it, probably would've had to return it.

Made a $10 profit.

My problem is not a 7. This is not a bad score by any means.

My problem is that it is the same old game
with a fair few technical issues
.

This is my fault for thinking better hardware would bring about innovation in game play.

More like thinking that Ubisoft is going to bother with it.

I'm glad that reviewers are being honest but it's such a shame, really wanted this game to be good (as I'm sure lots of people did). The French Revolution as a time period was something I anticipated greatly and it's sad to see it squandered. I'm a pretty big fan of AC games despite the annual releases (I even kind of enjoyed my time with AC3). Its been an entertaining trainwreck since this game's announcement but I'm still bitterly disappointed that its turned out this way. It'd be great for the Ubisoft to afford the AC teams the time needed to polish their games (just look at how DA:I has turned out with the extra time) but ah well, its unlikely to happen. Probably the first AC game that I might skip altogether (or at least pick up a long way down the line).

i feel the same way. I was SO looking forward to this that this shit actually makes me feel sad...

Too bad it will still sell millions. It's the same problem CoD had in the past. Advanced Warfare is good though.

Ass Creed just deserves a killing blow. So does Ubisoft.

I'm glad it's getting these scores tbh. I regret pre-ordering and pre-loading it. I should have known better. But at least scores are matching up with the games poor performance and issues.

EDIT: I didn't want it to fail. I wanted this game to be great, and to love it. This really sucks. :(

So Ubisoft release another AAA game that didn't meet that universal appear (meaning, another Watch_Doge)... Next year will be really interesting because Ubi is gonna have A LOT of competition where tons of quality AAA games are releasing and if they continue with this "Ubisoft Open-World-Formula" for another consecutive year, then things will get ugly for this company.

Sad Joystiq and Kotaku are the only ones with balls. If a game is bad it should not be protected by the media. You read reviews like this that absolutely hammer a game and then get a 7.8 on a pass because it occasionally looks pretty. Have a spine. I'm sorry but a game that dips into single digit frame-rates and has game breaking bugs a lot shouldn't even get a 6.5 Polygon.

Too bad this will still sell millions. They've got that money making formula and PR machine.

I'm biased, but as long as they save the good stuff for the eventual Asian entries, I'll be happy.

Good god, what happened - I wasn't expecting reviews to be that brutal.

Looks like a rent to me now, good work Ubisoft.

AC Unity:
Videogamer.com - 8/10

It's a good time to be an Assassin's Creed fan. I just wish my console could run it properly.

Sunset Overdrive
Videogamer.com - 6/10

In retrospect, however, Sunset Overdrive is a game that doesn't seem to have been able to build out on its initial promise. For every excellent element, there's a poor design choice ready to scupper it all. Even the free and easy traversal is sometimes hampered by the sudden realisation that there's no music playing, nothing driving you to new heights or better combos. Instead there's just deathly silence, often followed by the observation that the world is empty. Multiplayer (see below) is the highlight of the package, but can't rescue a poor campaign.

Apparently Ubisoft decided to not send review copies of Rogue out, so hold off on that too.

"At times it's glorious, but at the same time frustrating. It can be summed up in those moments when you are trying to craftily slip in through a window to stab a guard in the back of the neck, but instead end up leaping into a courtyard full of soldiers like a clumsy idiot. You will scream, swear and pound your head against the coffee table, and then you'll reload the game, because when it works, it really works."

I ordered this from the Sony online store using my rewards points, but they still haven't shipped it... time to see if I can cancel and get Dragon Age instead. What a joke, Ubisoft.

Maybe he got the only copy that wasnt a trainwreck? The last paragraph the reviewer states: "Unity doesn’t just play well, it looks beautiful too". Clearly the other reviewers are considered the unwashed masses in Ubisofts eyes as they only saw fit to send PlayStation Lifestyle the lone, unbroken copy of the game.

oh my god its barely playable its going to get destroyed by reviewers and this is the death of ubisoft and oh my god so exciting popping popcorn

*hours later*
