Do we need a new thread every bloody time someone says something about the Wii U.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Everbody seems to be jumping on the Wii U bandwagon. I hope the third parties take notice. I'm looking at you, Sega! Your arcade games are perfect on the Wii U.

Nintendo could release a console, mandate only 1st party games can be made for it, and eventually release a mario game and it'd be worth $250.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
They specifically mentioned Lego City Undercover.

I'm satisfied.

Oh yeah,
Xenocross and Zelda U tho

Anyway, we reached that time of the year, didnt we?
I'm happy to own my first nintendo console after the Gameboy, and this past year I spent gaming on it was amazing. Tho I wished I had more time, damn I cant even find time to finish the bloody plague knight level on shovel knight
yeah yeah I got kinda stuck, went to play MK8 and still need to come back and face my inaptitude T_T

Reasons worth owning the Wii U are many in my opinion:

Shovel Knight
Bayonetta 2
The Wonderful 101
NES Remix 1 & 2
Pikmin 3
Nintendo Land
Mighty Switch Force Hyperdrive Edition
Nano Assault Neo
Scribblenauts Unlimited & Unmasked
Dragon Quest X: Rise of the Five Tribes Online
Rayman Legends
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
Fatal Frame: Oracle of the Sodden Raven
Mario Kart 8
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
Super Smash Bros Wii U
Hyrule Warriors
New Super Mario Bros U
Lego City Undercover
ZombiU
Super Mario 3D World

really, IGN...?

what's next, kotaku...? lmfao

these "journalists" are becoming as shameless as the fanboys that they created, and capitalist 3rd parties who created them.

back in the good old days, journalist was a cool honorable profession.
i mean, superman is one. spiderman are sort of, tintin is also one. so many of the comic celebrities are journalists.

WiiU is as overly expensive considering the outdated tech inside, as the other two home consoles are. All three can't hold a candle to my gaming rig.
So the matter is settled regarding software. The WiiU had the best lineup last year, has the best lineup this year and has a very solid and competitive lineup for next year.
Owning all three, the time i spend on consoles is like WiiU>>X1>>>>>>>>>>>PS4.

This isn't accurate one bit.

I actually agree with the article, I've been biting at any opportunity to buy a PS4 or an XBOX ONE, but with their current library both consoles only have one game each that I have a desire to play. Nintendo on the other hand has released some of the best games I'll play this generation. Mk8, Smash and 3D World.

I also can't wait to get captain toad and bayonetta 2. The only reason I haven't yet is that smash on 3Ds, wii u and Fantasy Life have kept me busy.

Man, that's true. As someone who went with PS3 instead of 360 in part because of free online, and someone who games on PC and Nintendo besides Sony systems, I refuse to pay for PS+ on PS4. I'm not into renting services, personally, and I don't appreciate being forced to pay for one.

Zelda and A Promising Future

Of course this argument could be made for any of the three platforms. PS4 and Xbox One will both be stronger gaming platforms next year thanks potentially to Halo 5, Uncharted 4, Evolve, and Batman Arkham Knight. The same holds true for Nintendo next year.

Nintendo’s first-party games have always played a crucial role for its platforms, and Wii U’s future is looking stronger because of a distinct lineup. The Legend of Zelda was one of the most impressive and ambitious games shown at E3 2014. Mario Maker, Splatoon, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Yoshi’s Woolly World and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse also hint at a promising 2015, if they all ship next year. Nintendo has the strongest first-party stable of video games, and they continue to use it as a compelling reason to own the system.

Why is Zelda the only one to get a specific shout out? If we're going to praise Nintendo games for ambition, then shouldn't X, the game that's above the rest by, like, country miles in that regard, be front and center? It's been almost two years since it was announced, and there are only two sites that haven't thrown it in the "Oh yeah, here's a bunch of other games Nintendo has lined up. Whatever." pile. I get that it's a niche game, but whatever happened to giving credit where it's due?

*sigh*

At least Eurogamer and ONM have good taste.

It's nice to play Smash online forever for a one time fee of the system and the game. If someone wanted to play a multiplayer game online on the other two they'd have to pay a monthly/yearly fee in addition to the the cost of the games and the system.

It's sad that people still hate on NIntendo when they have solid games that work (sad that that part even has to be said) and free online. When I read people say "I'll get it when its $xxx" it's so annoying because once it hits $xxx they'll just make up a new number. If someone wants to take advantage of their xone or ps4 they'll have to keep paying for it until they don't want to play online anymore. Since right now the magic number is $200, $100 over the course of a generation is not that much. If $100 is stopping you from getting a great console you shouldn't be gaming to begin with. People complain that the Wii U has shitty hardware and that's true for today but Nintendo is working magic with it while other devs are just shitting on superior hardware. /rant

My principle is if a console has at least 10 games worth owning and playing for the system, that's a worthy purchase for me.

I now own more than 20 retail Wii U games on my system that I enjoyed playing the heck out of (not counting VC games of course). And I'm sure to own more of them next year. That's enough reason for me to say that the Wii U is definitely worth it.

One advantage of the Wii U is that it still strongly emphasises traditional console traits - namely plug and play gaming, reliable software, quick load times and if it is absolutely necessary, unobtrusive updates.

The other consoles, including last gen, seem well on the trajectory of having long installs, large title updates, frequent serious software bugs. This appears to me to be all the downsides of PC gaming with none of the upsides PC has such as dedicated servers, free online and a healthy modding community.

No it wasn't. It was made fun of for being a fisher price tablet when it was released by many and there were better budget tablets at the time for $50-$100 with better larger screens. Pretty much any android tablet with a Chromecast can stream 60fps video. Nintendo makes good gamesgames like I said earlier, but this hardware is bad. There is no reason they should still be forcing a tablet controller on people when people have shown they don't want it.
I'm sorry you were misinformed. :/

With a few exceptions, people generally decide within the first year of a machine's life span whether that system will be a runaway hit or a lesser success. Wii U happened to find its home at the bottom of history's chart for so long that nothing Nintendo does really matters at this point.

What about Nintendo fans like myself that haven't cared about Mario Kart since the SNES, and never cared for Smash Bros in the first place? This year would be downright pathetic if it wasn't for Bayonetta 2 and Captain Toad, but those are just two games. Two.
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze and Hyrule Warriors were pretty good too...

Other than the first point, I feel as those are similar discriptions of X one, and PS4 at the moment

The PS4 and Xbox One are very expensive for the amount of games on offer, but people are buying them for the potential they don't see in the Wii U.

It doesn't have enough single player experiences that would prompt me to buy it. Smash, Mario Kart, and 3D World are all games that while fun are not something I'd dedicate time to if I'm by myself. Bayonetta would be, but other than that I would only want X and Zelda and hopefully a new Metroid, all games that are a long way away. At the least they could announce localization of Fatal Frame but they can't even do that.

Though it bears considering that the PS4 and XBO are actually cheap compared to historical consoles from those companies (accounting for inflation).

3D world was fantastic singleplayer along with DKCTF. I also enjoy Smash's sp content, but that's more a niche opinion.

Bayo 1 and 2, X and Zelda are all either the best action game since the last platinum game, and the others are promising as hell

I am happy the Wii U is doing good now, but also feel that it has peaked outside of Zelda.

Games like Xenoblades and Splatoon I don't think they will expand the audience that much.

You know what? The screen-pad-controller is a god-send to people like me. My household has only one tv, and I can't hog it all day long - my girlfriend has her shows that she wants to watch. So what do I do? I sit next to her on our comfy couch and play some Mario Kart or Bayonetta off that pad.

I also heartily recommend the console to anyone on the fence about it. MK8, Super Mario 3D World, DK: Tropical Freeze and Bayonetta 2 are all absolutely stellar games, and will last you a long time.

if you are into mario, mario kart and smash then go ahead and buy it but people have taste outside of mario so quit beating us over the head with nintendo first party. We get it some people like it but third party support offers more variety and that's what nitendo lacks.

Making threads about articles = beating people over the head..?

All PCs can run those games? Hmm. I didn't know that.
Yeah, because GAF readers, the ones who endlessly argue about hardware power and specs, don't have capable PCs for modern games.
Even I have one, and I'm an Apple man. C'mon dude, let's not pretend we are Luddites around here.

My only New-Gen console so far has been the Wii U.

I don't feel like I've missed out on anything special from 3rd parties, yet.

You really haven't. GTA5 is great but it isn't necessary if you got it on the 360/PS3 last year. The Evil Within was decent. Had some cool tense moments but didn't keep it up throughout the whole game.

Overall the Wii U has a better lineup than PS4 and XBone combined thus far. 2015 is looking good too.

That's me, as well. I have a Wii U for high-quality gaming experiences as well as a decent PC for this year's third party blockbusters and don't feel the need to purchase a PS4 yet. However, I will buy one once Bloodborne comes out next year.
