Still leaves the window wide open for a loyalty discount at least. It better be a deep one.
This is fucking crazy. Here's the Japanese press release: http://www.4gamer.net/games/196/G019662/20141125021/
Relevant footnotes:
※Windows(DirectX.9対応)版からWindows(DirectX.11対応)版へのアップグレードはできません。
- Last-gen and new-gen versions use different game servers.
- Last-gen and new-gen versions are not compatible for online matchmaking. (PS3 to PS4 matchmaking is not supported)
- You cannot transfer save data from last-gen to new-gen.
- You cannot upgrade the Windows (DirectX9) version to the Windows (DirectX11) version.
In the press release they also specify very clearly that "last-gen" refers specifically to the PS3, 360, and DX9 versions, while "new-gen" refers to the PS4, XBO, and DX11 versions. No confusion.

As well as the ability to play with those that have the DX11 version. =\

So... There is such a thing as a last gen PC =3
Wait what? Cool. Completely unexpected though.
OT name right there. Works on every level.Dark Souls 2: Prepare to Rebuy Edition
If you double dip here, you're part of the problem.
I bought it on PC already once, and they failed to explain themselves for dumbing things down a couple weeks before launch.. Well now we know why.
It's okay though. I didn't buy their planned DLC either.
I've played over 200 hours already and have no motivation to start all over again, ah. I take it those NPCs and new events are not part of the ps360 patch and re-release? or are they?
Whew. Consider this Dark Souls II: Remastered... with a clunkier title. There's also a new patchv1.10that you'll get no matter which version of Dark Souls II you own. The patch "will add new features including an additional NPC to seek out along the treacherous quest through Drangleic as well as expanded story, in-game events, improved balance, and online matchmaking functionality.
Do we know the framerate? Surely it must be 60, considering it runs 60 on a shitty PC?

Yeah since they're clearly trying to sell the DX11 version as a totally new product on its own, that's the only goodwill option left.
You'd think so but even Alien was 30fps on consoles. I'd brace for 30fps.
Dark Souls 2: Prepare to Rebuy Edition
Not if you were smart and didn't buy the paid beta in the first place!
Are last gen consoles getting a retail release too or only the new free upgrade?
I'd like to think "better performance" means we're getting more than a few more FPS on console.
Can't believe they're so shortsighted. By pulling this shit they're alienating the entire prospective buyers of the PC version of DS3.This is fucking crazy.
Bamco, you're going to have to sell these people Dark Souls 3, don't shit on them.
Fuckwits.
If the visual enhancements are free for PC users and the extra contentis priced as a dlc add on($15) I am okay with this.
