It's brilliant for the gaming industry that both are doing so well. I just wish certain aspects of the media would cut the bias. It's so obvious that people can't fail to see them do it, for instance

"it falls short of the barnstorming victory Microsoft’s machine apparently saw in the US over the weekend" - Something that's not confirmed or accurate as far as we can tell, pure speculation.

MCV have been reporting huge PS4 sales over XB1 since launch though? Why are you assuming they have an agenda all of sudden?

Do MS still have to pay Sony a (very) small royalty for each XBO sold for using a BR drive?

I'm morbidly curious as to how much they have made from it to date.

EDIT: After some research, I hear it's just over $1 for each unit. Not a bad deal for Sony.

Dragon Age dropping so fast making me cry it such a quality game

It's my goty personally.

But there has been such little advertising, and they released it in the absolutely busiest day possible.

I just really hope da does well for bioware. I really hope it does.

I'm shocked to see Forza Horizon 2 fall into oblivion.

With all these new XBO owners, if should be their first purchace.
I did my part, it's the one game I keep coming back to. Offline it's boring but something about online has me hooked.

DA 2 did a lot of damage to the IP, so I'm not at all surprised DA:I is suffering, even though it may be leaps and bounds better that DA 2. Same thing happened to the Resistance series.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Seriously, why did Forza drop all of a sudden? It actually happened last week, but strangely it's only now people are seeing it.

Shame. Unfortunately we're starting to see more 360 owners just following the natural upgrade. My Nephew is getting a bone this Christmas and so are most his school friends.

How is that people upgrading to current-gen a bad thing?

And yeah, Dragon Age went down A LOT. So much for it having legs XD

Xbox exclusive advertising isn't hurting the game's sales, FIFA proves that.

I'm talking about Dragon Age II being rushed and poor -- wouldn't surprise me if that hurt DA:I.

That money goes to the Blu-ray Disc Association, not just Sony. Apparently there are 18 different companies on the board, so Sony will effectively have a cut of that money.

From the past thread

46 per cent of last week's Advanced Warfare sales were on Xbox 360, with 22 per cent on PS3. Meanwhile, 19 per cent were sold on Xbox One and 14 per cent on PS4.

http://www.videogamer.com/xbox360/c...ring_black_friday_week_than_ps4_xbox_one.html

So huh.

CoD:AW
360 103,820
PS3 49,653
XBO 42,882
PS4 31,597

10 1 CALL OF DUTY: ADVANCED WARFARE XB360 ACTIVISION ACTIVISION BLIZZARD (103,820)
1 2 GRAND THEFT AUTO V PS4 ROCKSTAR TAKE 2
- 3 POKEMON OMEGA RUBY 3DS NINTENDO NINTENDO (>77,400)
- 4 POKEMON ALPHA SAPPHIRE 3DS NINTENDO NINTENDO (>75,000)
2 5 GRAND THEFT AUTO V XB ONE ROCKSTAR TAKE 2
8 6 ASSASSIN'S CREED: UNITY XB ONE UBISOFT UBISOFT
- 7 DRIVECLUB PS4 SONY COMPUTER ENT. SONY COMPUTER ENT.
12 8 FIFA 15 XB360 EA SPORTS ELECTRONIC ARTS
18 9 CALL OF DUTY: ADVANCED WARFARE PS3 ACTIVISION ACTIVISION BLIZZARD (49,653)
11 10 FIFA 15 XB ONE EA SPORTS ELECTRONIC ARTS
7 11 CALL OF DUTY: ADVANCED WARFARE XB ONE ACTIVISION ACTIVISION BLIZZARD (42,882)
32 12 ASSASSIN'S CREED IV: BLACK FLAG XB ONE UBISOFT UBISOFT
3 13 FAR CRY 4 PS4 UBISOFT UBISOFT
- 14 SUPER SMASH BROS. WII U NINTENDO NINTENDO
9 15 CALL OF DUTY: ADVANCED WARFARE PS4 ACTIVISION ACTIVISION BLIZZARD (31,597)

Which means that SSB Wii U did between 31,597 and 42,882

Now, we also know that this week's SSB Wii U + SSB 3DS = SSB 3DS x 6.60
Unfortunately, we just have an estimate for SSB Wii U, not for SSB 3DS this week. Thus, this estimate is incomplete

SSB Wii U - between 31,597 and 42,882
SSB 3DS Week 47 - between 4,787 and 6,497 (30th in Week 47)

I really thought that SSB would do better. Or at least it would push some Wii U's. It's the biggest release for the console at least until Zelda comes out. Nintendo was smart to hedge their bets with the 3DS version.

Edit: And yeah, if anyone predicted two months ago that Sunset would have better legs than MCC, take a bow.

Edit2: It looks like DA2 is going to fall way short of my leggy prediction. Do new gen console owners just not give a fuck about RPGs? I fear for the Witcher 3, especially if it launches next to Dark Souls 2 remix.

It's launching at an utterly stupid time - it was always going to be a casualty compared to AC, FIFA, CoD and Farcry. There's only so much mind space and shelf space for games and those four will obliterate anything else in their way. Bioware normally release games earlier in the year and they would have been far better off doing that rather than trying to compete for the precious Christmas time slot.

Also, the 'partnership deal' they have with Microsoft appears to have really screwed them over - I haven't seen ANYTHING about this game, anywhere. I've personally convinced a lot of my friends to buy it because it's amazing and they will love it. But they had no clue it was coming out or what it was.

To be honest, EA really need to drop their 'special relationship' with Microsoft. It's costing them sales at this point. Anything would have to be better than what's been done to push the game on the Xbox so far.

LBP3 doing around 30k isn't that bad. Why is everyone saying it flopped hard? It's a holiday game that will have good legs.

Famitsu magazine reported that it sold 79,000 units (90%)

Oh. That is not too high. Put 3DS and WiiU debut numbers togehter and this new Smash bros probably had pretty similar debut numbers. Too bad it will not have anywhere near the same kind of legs (3DS versions already out of top 40).

Didn't MK8 do around 70k back in the day? ~35k for Smash seems awfully low in comparison

I've always held the opinion that MK is a much bigger brand than Smash, at least to me and my circle of gaming friends. I didn't really know squat about SSB before Brawl, and even that was through forums. I still don't know anyone who owns or plays Smash, but fucking everyone knows Mario Kart.

Edit2: It looks like DA2 is going to fall way short of my leggy prediction. Do new gen console owners just not give a fuck about RPGs? I fear for the Witcher 3, especially if it launches next to Dark Souls 2 remix.

EA wanted this to be their equivalent to The Elder Scrolls, and Skyrim also launched in November and as I recall was the second or third biggest selling game of the year behind COD and possibly Battlefield. The trouble is that Skyrim followed on from Oblivion which also sold incredibly well and got tons of excellent marketing, while Inquisition follows on from Dragon Age II and seemed to have a comparatively weak marketing push.

Interesting if XB1 just edged it and no more. Both consoles had good deals and bundles but there is no doubt MS pushed out more advertising and deals overall (as noted in the article) so while good for them short term it does raise the question can they remain this competitive on price and advertising spend on an ongoing basis?

It's clear that to actually compete the XB1 has to be cheaper deal.

I'd imagine if Sony retain overall lead in UK in first quarter of 2015 they'll happily accept selling in line with XB1 at a higher price point at peak trading.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???

That's a terrible debut for Super Smash honestly; however, many have claimed their orders were postponed (Smash Bros bundles).

Still, the blame lies solely on Nintendo UK for such a terrible launch.

Or Nintendo didn't have enough copies for black friday at all available in the UK. Amazon etc had shipment issues. It was quite the mess. I wonder how many people it actually affected though.

I think next week we can see a clearer picture how well it has sold.
Also, you couldn't download Brawl to your Wii, you can with the new smash bros, so that makes comparing it a bit tricky. I wouldn't worry.
