Kokoro Connect - 11

Oh, this is just too cute.

Initially I thought we were seeing some sort of timeskip episode into the future and a look into their future kids but nope! After the pretty shit "desire unlocking" arc our author returns with a gimmick that's actually interesting from the outset, and for the first time since we were first introduced to body switching in the original arc I'm actually interested in how the story is going to develop from here. More than that though, since he's not shoehorning our female protagonist's background story with having some trauma that needs to be immediately "fixed", the progression of events to a more serious tone feels a lot more natural as a result. And we get some insight into the backstory of our second male lead! Woo!

There's still some things that are annoying me here, the fact that Taichi isn't get a kid version because ??? and the shoehorning him into the "Knight" role. The fact that the author can't for the life of him stop himself from injecting a dose of melodrama into the introduction of the mechanic: "One day this might be the trigger that'll ruin us all, Taichi! I'm scared!!!11oneoeneoneon!1" Which would work maybe if they hadn't gone out of their way to say that every goddamn time. But that aside, I feel like if the show had focused more on gimmicks that injected a bit more fun into the storytelling then I'd have enjoyed this series a lot more than I have.

Pretty awful episode, it reminds us that Fukutomi is a boring and bland character and has conditionally present bad actions. Second time hes done something cruel this anime.

Also bad writing if Arakita loses, it wont make sense for him to lose really. For a sports series this anime has one of the weirdest times for the writing to get bad.

180'd in the last couple episodes which more or less was the wakeup call the female protag needed to snap out of what she was going through. He then going out of his way to say "Mental illness is okay!" later on was ... interesting.

Doesn't help that Aura takes the chuuni concept and executes it a lot more competently too.

Anyways, I started watching Rage of Bahamut: Genesis and kinda like it. I think using historical and known mythological names in a totally whack fantasy setting is a lazy way out of getting your character's across though, there's no reason that Joan of Arc should be there but somehow she is and since they use her name we can more or less get an idea of her role despite it clearly not able to be our Joan of Arc and having Zeus be over angels and shit, I don't even, whatever. Lazy author.

Don't blame the author, the show is based on a F2P card game so they have to take every mythology available and make a mix in order to sell more cards.

So finally the field trip that they've been cock teasing us about over the last couple episodes has finally started ... and it was kind of a let down!

I really don't think they need the plot device that they're currently using in order to tell the stories that they're telling. If anything, in hindsight, it seems just a bit lazy because instead of creating scenarios that naturally progress out of events happening in the story you can just point to Kung-Fu Ninja Plant Aliens as the crux for why the "drama" in this show makes sense in the context that they're presenting it. "Unlocking desires" is the ultimate tool for making your characters do decidedly uncharacteristic things without building any sort of situation in which it'd actually make sense for them to do that. It's established that you can even go out of your way to completely ignore the impulses you're getting when its inconvenient for the plot for them to do something truly stupid. And really it's just highlighting how pointless the entire endeavor of "unlocking hidden desires" really was when all was said and done. Nothing significant actually happened here that wouldn't or couldn't have happened otherwise. Even the alluded to intervention from Kung-Fu Ninja Plant Aliens in the last episode amounted to absolutely fuck all when everything was said and done.

As long as this logical conclusion is reached you got what was needed from Kokoro Connect.

Started watching a couple of animes after resubscribing to Crunchyroll....

From the New World- Awesome show that has me utterly fascinated. Visuals are really pleasant to look at and the mystery has me wanting to watch more and more. Only 6 episodes in but I am keeping with it for sure. This one's damn good and intelligent.

Parasyte -Maxim- First episode impressed the heck out me. Violence is brutal. Animation quality is off the hook. Kinda funny too.

Akame Ga Kill- WTF. I heard this one was popular, but only two episodes in I am trying to figure out what the hell kind of show I am watching. The goofy humor mixed with grotesque depravity is creating a dissonance that I am not sure I can handle. It feels really strange. I will keep watching to see if it grows on me because I love revenge stories and those about people trying to stand against tyranny.

From The New World was a really epic and fascinating story. Very foreboding atmosphere and well thought out characters. One of my recent favorites. I have a habit of pushing it on people too.

Not hopeful after the Gurren Lagann boxset.

Gurren Lagann is getting a nice cheaper release though, in parts. Perhaps Eva will.

What a touching, miracle-filled anime! No, instead of focusing on the goals and dreams of the manga club we've got vomit, death, reptilians, Touhous and a cliff-hanger involving time travel. It's pretty funny, and I like one particular seiyuu choice...

All these people can't pass their college entrance exams so they just drink/have fun each day. Wasn't familiar with this show at all (besides the name) and synopses I found sounded like they could go in any direction. Thought it might be one of those cringe humour shows, dunno if it'll be relatable. The characters became friends really fast and I don't really have an opinion on them yet. The set-ups are pretty fun though like the April Fool's episode (it was cute).

Machinima team just gotten a lot more interesting, this know show how to build an character.. the backstory is pretty lulz tho, not sure how he putting resentment toward rival that don't want to help him in a race.. I guess that's inline with the character.

Arakita is pretty fucking badass once again, he draw parallel between him and Hiroshima is so good.

Log Horizon S2 E9

The first half had some very exciting and epic mmo style action, the second half was a great character moment for Shiroe which was the first time all series we really got a good look at who he really is and what he really thinks. Both halves of the show were excellent with great writing and pacing which kept me completely engrossed.

I sometimes find it hard to comment about series that I really like and think are really good because I feel like I just end up gushing about how great they are because there is so many things it does right.

While we might occasionally get an episode or a series of episodes like the ones in Brave New World, I can't for the longest time think of a straight horror series that was any good at all.

Hell we barely get any good psychological thrillers nowadays.

We had a problem for a moment there, the first 75% of this episode was really good, and it was only at the end that the contrived stupid began to rear it's ugly head. The pre battle before the boss fight and the boss fight itself were both very well animated (Asuna's stretch arm was goofy though) and pretty exciting and in some ways I wish the series was just dumb shonen full of stuff like this and not more stuff like what we see in the final 25% of the episode.

So we have Lucifer, Beelzebub and Satan, and they are all different characters. Taking some notes from SMT I see. The demon/angel thing is the weakest part of the show, the less time spent on that and the more time spent on Favaro making goofy faces the better.

Even though Kaisar isn't coming (yet) I think Favaro and Rita make a great pair anyway.
I hope the next episode is an adventure one, that ending reminded me of RE4 escaping through the tunnel on the jetski lol

I haven't seen Monokoke. Mushishi has horror episodes but in no way is it a horror series. I thought about Flowers of Evil but I would say that's more of a psychological thriller than a horror work.

Iggy isn't really an inconsistency, he just started out looking like a regular dog until Araki decided he should have a more human face so he can show emotion when he fights. I remember it being more of a slow change too.

Don't think so. Annasui only showed up once as a female I believe, before they had time to form any relationship like that.
Like jgminto said it's more likely Araki just changed his mind, as he does so often.

If anything I think that would lead MORE to the conclusion that it was changed. If Annasui was originally conceived to be the main love interest when Araki was planning out part 6 in his mind then his later actions make sense. First he introduced her into the plot as a female, then had the character vanish, finally had her come back as a male/main character/love interest. There's no way to know if the editors themselves forced him to make the switch or if Araki himself changed his mind and changed it from a lesbian to a heterosexual relationship to avoid getting flak from the editors/audience. If there wasn't a change there would be no reason to change the gender of the original character, you could have just introduced a new character to be the love interest ala Suzi from part 2.

Rage of Bahamut Genesis 8

Well I'm glad the plot has gotten back on track IE Favaro and Amira going on an adventure and I assume somehow Rita and Kaiser will begin to follow next week. I guess the King freaking out over JoA betraying him and the random murder of the other knight is going to lead to an excuse for why JoA herself can't chase after Favaro/Amira and is why Kaiser will have to lead the chase. Again a really good episode and another show that continues to be excellent week after week.
