Kotaku: Assassin's Creed 2015 set in Victorian London (Quebec Dev, Screenshots)

No company cancels a season pass and gives away free games for a small vocal minority. No company. Sorry, ya'll need to accept it and stop being contrary.

The reports are fucking endless about how bad this shit was.

I don't accept the false dichotomy that it was either 'horrendous and severe for most people' or it was a small minority, sorry.

LOL this looks like a controlled leak if I've seen one.

So that's 3 2015 games with a Victorian setting.

I dont really mind, the other two are not real Victorian London, only so steampunk fantasy that im really getting bored of.
I always wanted to explore real Victorian London on a game, and AC is probably the only one thats going to try to do that.
Too bad we know what happened with AC Unity (antoher location I really wanted and whats wasted with that game).

Thought for sure Ubisoft would pump the brakes and at least spend some more time on the next release...Guess they will keep on keepin on with the BS.

GAF is not a fucking hivemind.

GAF is not lying about the horrendous bugs and issues (as well as performance) Unity has (in fact we have performance analysis: surprise, it's garbage!). Unless you think Ubisoft is lying too - even though they lie every fucking other day - because they've released like nineteen (hyperbole) press releases apologizing for how fucked everything was, cancelling the season pass due to it, gives away free games due to it, has a whole subsite dedicated to keeping players updated on how they're fixing the broken mess of Unity.

You got lucky. Congratulations! But trying to act like GAF is just being "haters" is obscene and insulting. That's like a fucking climate change denier say climate change isn't happening because LOL it's snowing outside.

Enough is enough with persecution nonsense. You, Eden and anybody else who wants to pretend the issue wasn't horrendous and severe for most people can go and take it up with Ubisoft, because you don't apologize endlessly, cancel the season pass and offer free games if everyone was just bitching to bitch.

Ya'll need to accept this shit already. Deal. With. It.

The funny thing is that even with all the games with bugs Unity was the one to be scrutinized

Gta V came out on PS4 has frame drops to the mid 20s when coming to an intersection with more than 4 cars, and even lower if anything starts getting insane

Game has bugs from killer gates to dropping through the world to NPCs repeating animations, you know the types of bugs Ubisoft is currently fixing in Assassins creed Unity and yet you hear almost nothing about them

That's why i cant take any of you seriously if you are going to complain about games being buggy complain about all games not just the one that just so happens to be hot to hate

You guys drive me crazy. I'll probably be blacklisted by Ubisoft PR forever, yet here people are thinking this was an intentional leak. Do you really think that Stephen Totilo or I would ever participate in something like that?

This is a joke, right? GTA 5 is nowhere near as glitchy as Unity was when it shipped. B-b-but Rockstar too is not an excuse for shipping a broken game.

This is false equivalency. GTAV runs like a fucking miracle compared to the way Unity runs on consoles. GTAV has a fraction of the bugs that Unity has.

Which isn't to say they're not worth complaining about - I announced I was skipping GTAV on PS4 due to the frame issues, even after waiting a year since the PS3 version for it - but they are simply not Unity level. Few games are, unless they're shovelware crap.

I complain about Unity because I bought it.

I'm sorry that's not a good enough reason for you.

I got Unity against my better judgement, and it's pretty janky (and also not enormously fun). I've had more major bugs during my time playing Inquisition though.

That's "Dr." dofry to you.
This rehash creed I won't be buying, but this I would buy. Make it happen someone.

I'll bet a dollar that you meet Arthur Conan Doyle during the inevitable murder investigation sidequests and he is inspired to base Sherlock Holmes on you.

Forrest Gumpian Creed affecting history. I'd buy that for a dollar.

I truly hope there is some change to the formula but I am afraid there won't be any worthwhile changes to the game. Wear a hoodie outfit, climb and stab. They've had so many changes to change the outfits but they never do. Black Flag was a step into the right direction however small that may have been.

Gaf may not be a hivemind, but it´s very quick to jump on the hate train. Especially with Ubi games. Not saying they don't deserve this kind of special treatment, but I think it´s going a little too far sometimes.

Look, what i'm saying is that I have a perfectly enjoyable, bug-free experience with Unity on PC. Needless to say I was quite surprised with all the shit I've read here. I was expecting a technical disaster, and it´s far from it. In fact, it's quite the opposite for me. It even seems more polished than Black flag ffs !

As I said before I'm having more troubles with Inquisition and its shitty controller support, while Unity natively support DS4. Both are great games tho.

Am I being lucky ? Or does GAF hate just for the sake of hating ? You decide. I just know GAF loves to overreact, it happens all the time. I've learned to not believe everything I read here and this just confirm it.

Again I can't speak for the console versions, as I haven't played it, but yeah I don't doubt they can't handle such a graphical powerhouse.

Again, GAF is not a hivemind. Ubisoft literally cancelled the season pass, gave away free games and apologized fifty million times over the mess Unity is as well as made a subsite dedicated to keep Unity players up to date on how they were going to fix their broken product.

You got lucky, and I congratulate you for that. You are totally allowed to say your experience was good and to enjoy the product.

You are not allowed to cast aspersions over GAF as a whole as if we exist to hate. You are not allowed to pretend the problems aren't widespread and extremely significant, when Ubisoft did all those things I said. It's just denial at that point.

What you're doing is basically insulting huge portions of GAF, because you refuse to acknowledge Ubisoft did a shitty thing and, frankly, has been shitty for the past year and a half. Unity being a buggy/performance mess was just the last on a long list of fucked up things they did this past year and a half. I can detail them for you, but I suspect you'd try to make an excuse for them all.

First tragedy, then farce.
Hopefully this is ancillary to Black Flag's relationship to AC3.

The game that got the mechanical ideas from Unity right without any of the jankyness.

Yeah, that'd be rad. The improvements from AC1 to AC2 alone were huge, so I hope that too reflects what we'd see with this game.

No intentionally no way, but I wouldn't put it past Ubi leaking it themselves no.

But I'd also release the video as well, I don't see how it'd make your relationship with Ubi worse if you're saying you're likely to be blacklisted.

This could be the best AC ever and I still wouldn't bite. I'm just so sick of this series. It's the same thing over and over and over again. Yearly releases are killing AC (and probably the people making them).

If it is a controlled leak, somehow they fooled jason... and frankly, I think jason is too clever by half to fall for that. He already said he's likely to be blacklisted from Ubisoft games for a while over this.

The last time I went to test a game a Ubi's studio I signed an NDA and they told us, with not that much subtlety, that they would send their lawyers after us if we talked about what we saw. Controlled leaks are not a thing.

Crazy sale on Unity sometime 2015 with the release of Victory.

Hopefully Unity will be patched enough to consider - if not, there's plenty of fish in the sea - Victory just ain't one.

What does Ubisoft stand to gain from getting people to ignore their most important game of the year during the biggest sales period of the year? It might not be their best effort but they still want people to buy it. Their attempt to repair the damage done to the franchise is giving free DLC and fixing the game, not ignoring it. The last thing they want people to think is "Well I was going to ask for Unity for Christmas even if I've heard a few bad things about it, because I like AC and I hear they are fixing it. But now I know there's a sweet one coming out next year with another cool European setting! So I'll just wait."

Fears are warranted, but of course some are excited. Black Flag ran really well on consoles and was a good game - and Unity, when you can play it and not run into bugs, is a pretty solid "game", unfortunately bugs and crap rarely allow you to enjoy the game for what it is.

This is the core issue with annualizing a franchise that takes years to make each game. You have different studios and frankly, the quality level of these studios varies a lot. Call of Duty runs into this issue too time to time, where Ghosts was just not that great last year, but Advanced Warfare is great this year. Different studios, different results.

So yes, Unity is a hot steaming pile of poo, but the studio behind it won't have a new AC game come out for 2 or 3 years - meaning the next two AC titles are free from the people who made the last one, lining up the studios behind Black Flag and AC III for the next two entries.

Nop, not gonna apologize for Ubisoft. I don't like how they treat this franchise, i don't like how they replace content with collect-a-thon in every single game, and I think WD was an uninspired pile of poo.

That said, i maintain that GAF loves to shit on Ubisoft games, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes because it's fun to hate.

But yeah to be fair Im playing Unity on a brand new PC, and maybe that helps.

and your proof of this is what? the fact that "GAF" - again not a hivemind, you mean large groups of individuals on the forum - is hating on multiple Ubisoft products that have widespread problems?

your argument is clearly unassailable.

I'm really disappointed at the amount of people here hyped and excited about this. When will we learn¿

This.

And I say that as someone who generally plays and enjoys AC games (AC3 aside, which was dire). There's nothing in this leak to warrant the level of excitement given that no recent AC title has shown a huge leap forward in gameplay.

Apologies if I offended you or anyone at Kotaku, but the cynic in me after seeing the press and the gaming community going after Ubi over Unity makes me think they want people to forget Unity and look forward to the new and improved AC.

Given Ubi's recent antics, I'm a bit cynical of them.

I have no proof. It's just a personal sentiment (based on past experiences with hated games on GAF of course)

Yearly releases are not killing the AC series in terms of sales, that's for sure. Black Flag sold 11 million copies (link). AC3 sold 12 million copies (link). It will be interesting to see how much Unity and Rogue have sold when the dust settles.

I think releasing 2 games at the same time in the same franchise is splitting your purchasing base and when the inevitable Rogue HD release comes I wonder if Rogue will end up outselling Unity.

Back on topic, I don't know how I feel about leaks like this. It's always kinda shitty for all the people working on the game. Releasing info too early leads to fatigue for buyers, they get sick of hearing about your game long before it comes out. It's generally best to announce about 6-8 months before launch and then do a really strong marketing push in the 1-2 months pre-release. This gets you the highest number of launch week sales. So I totally understand why Ubi is upset about this leak.

I hope Kotaku paid the leaker well because once Ubi finds out who did it (and they will, eventually), that person is going to be blacklisted from the industry so I hope they have a non-industry job lined up. I have seen one or two people be blacklisted (for much less than leaking a AAA title), once that happens no other AAA studio will touch that person with a 10-foot pole.

I mean shit if it's just some gut feeling you have then I think you can recognize why GAF TEH HIVEMIND will be discarding that bit.

Oh, this is a LEAK!?!?!?

LOL pretty perfect timing no? Not pointing any fingers but there's no way this wasn't in some way on purpose on Ubi's PR part. Stock prices don't lie.

Called it. Gotta reuse dem assets!! lol.

Wait what?
Reuse what assets?

You are really that naive to think that Vicotirian London looks anything remotely simlar to France during the revolution? Or that all europe has the same architecture during different eras?

WTF, I hope you are not american, because if not you are the typical parody of what they say about your knowledge of anything outside your country. And im pretty sure not all americans are like that, but you are giving them a bad name with that kind of stupidity.

the stock is higher now than what it was right before AC unity came out

also, jason is essentially being blacklisted by Ubisoft so do you just think Ubisoft played him like a fiddle?

Why would they want people to forget a game they just spent tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars making? What they want is to fix Unity and get more people buying it, hence their angry statement yesterday. They didn't want people to know about next year's game because it might take sales away from the disappointing one they just released. (Which is one of the reasons I'm glad we were able to get this scoop -- so people can make more educated purchasing decisions.)

I'm not sure there's ever been a major leak posted on GAF in the past two years where there wasn't a lot of posters assuming it was an insidious controlled leak.

Like even the quite rough Bloodborne footage last year that looked notably worse than what was shown a couple months later.
