Unless my powers of observation have failed me, there is a price discrepancy here

Thanks as always though Hiska! Much appreciated!

Edit: On second glance, was the 53,000 Yen the original MSRP but it got marked lower for release? That'd be kind of interesting if so I guess

You should do this every week and make a new thread for it. Or one thread and update it each week. I would subscribe in a heartbeat. Love seeing this stuff. I don't exactly get a lot of exposure of what things are like over there. I really appreciate these photos. Thanks

Must not fly to Japan just to buy

Ah that would make sense I guess.

Speaking of tax, with Japan's problems weren't there talks of increasing tax more? Or did I make that up?
It was planned for a while to increase sales tax by more (it already was increased once this year, from 5 to 8%), but the increase that happened earlier in the year has been so disastrous there is snap election right now almost exclusively to gain a mandate to stop the tax rise.

Ah ok yeah I somewhat remember that Japan's economy performed much worse than even the most bearish of predictions thought it would so that would make sense

As always, thanks for the pics hiska-kun. Looking forward to see PS4 and GTA5's numbers next week.

The original MSRP is 49,980yen (or 53,978yen with tax). Bic Camera's price is 49,970yen (or 53,967yen with tax), so there's a whopping 11yen discount. :D

Generations are chronological in nature so the 9th generation will begin with whoever decides to release the next console. I also believe the other 2 will succumb to a shorter generation both for the necessity of their hardware and the health of the industry which suffered at large at the extended previous generation.
I think the other two will have a relatively "normal" lifespan. So years shorter than last generation.

I understand the point of classification based on chronology.

But if one is that much out of step with the others, the classification is basically purposeless.

The PS4 and XBO aren't going to become "last gen" systems in the wider consumer mindset if Nintendo is driven by market forces to release a new console in 2016, or to take it to an extreme example if they (or either of the other two for that matter) released a new system tomorrow.

Thank you, and everybody else too.
I was thinking of doing it, but unfortunatly, I will have to come back to my country in a few months, so I won't be able to do it forever.
Enjoy as much as you can now. I will too ;)

I noticed the japan games doesnt have those security barrier plastic casings. I guess Japan doesn't get a lot of thefts like we have here in America?

Is that 76k number for Minecraft Vita a good showing? I feel like it is but I don't remember what the PS3 version did.

*edit* Looked into Hiska's digital archive and it seems the PS3 version's first month was 66k.

I think this release demonstrates how Nintendo's strategy for the holidays is the right one:

This week's releases:

[3DS] Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS (Double Gift Pack) <FTG> (Nintendo) (¥10.584)
36C6B085-D115-4791-9234-06AD344BC6EC_zpsncgsihkj.jpg

A gift pack with two copies of Smash 4 3DS. Because let's say a family has two kids, both want Smash, they both have a 3DS. You need two copies so they can both play it.

This is how much Smash 3DS sold in its launch week:

Media Create Sales: Week 37, 2014 (Sep 08 - Sep 14)

01./00. [3DS] Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS <FTG> (Nintendo) {2014.09.13} (¥5.616) - 944.644 / NEW <93,45%>

Roughly 1 million people could play the game simultaneously after its launch. Now let's compare with the Wii U:

Media Create Sales: Week 49, 2014 (Dec 01 - Dec 07)

01./00. [WIU] Super Smash Bros. for Wii U # <FTG> (Nintendo) {2014.12.06} (¥7.776) - 227.527 / NEW

Roughly 900k people can play the game simultaneously on Wii U now. Roughly 1.8 million can play the game simultaneously on Wii U in 8 player mode.

The number of players interested in the game won't drastically change. But the number of consoles/games sold do change drastically the more people play on handheld.

You might say Nintendo killed the Wii U's holiday sales, the only time of the year the Wii U actually shines. That would be a bad thing if you were content with only selling well during the holidays.

Of course you should want more. The only thing that can boost Wii U sales is good word of mouth and exposure. Cross play of the two Smash versions is just what can give the Wii U these two things.

Smash is best played in multiplayer. If players with the game come together, they can immediately play together. And there is no reason to exclude a player who owns the game on Wii U. So if only one kid out of 8 has a Wii U, 8 kids can play together on the big screen.

It is similar to what Sony and Namco did with God Eater cross gen/play. PSP owners and Vita owners can play together and the PSP owners get an impression of how the Vita version is superior. Yet PSP owners wouldn't look at the better screen all the time, see the better graphics all the time. All they would see is their friends holding a larger console.

God Eater also wasn't the big multi million selling franchise that is MH or Smash.

So maximizing 3DS version sales is beneficial in two ways. 1) High upfront and absolute sales. 2) And continuously creating word of mouth for the Wii U as a console. Even if 3DS players invited to play on Wii U will not feel the need to buy a Wii U for Smash, they will appreciate the big TV screen. And there are plenty more sequels/new content of games they liked on 3DS.

Getting people to upgrade from 3DS to Wii U has been Nintendo's strategy all along (by putting sequels to 3DS games on the Wii U). They are just realistic about how well a console can perform compared to a handheld. One console allows multiplayer for 2, 4 or 8 people. One 2 player game requires 2 handhelds, a 4 player game 4 handhelds and an 8 player game 8 handhelds. For that reason handhelds will always sell better.

According to Dengeki...

1) sellthrough for Smash Wii U is ~60%
2) 90% of people who bought the game already owned a Wii U. No real surprise with such a moderate rise in sales 3 weeks before Christmas.

YW2 is selling so much better than YW is also because it contains some summary of the plot of the first one.

What I found more interesting is this:

Simplified Chinese FFX/X-2 HD on PS4. By far the biggest title (in terms of both size and localisation effort) of the PS4 Chinese launch.

Are SE looking for a foothold in this market?
Is the localization handled by Square Enix or SCE? IIRC SCE Hong Kong localized many third party titles to English/Chinese.

Naruto4 coming to PS4.
One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 coming out in March 26, 2015.

Also World Trigger announced for Vita. It's a team co-op & versus action game based on the manga/anime, published by Bandai Namco Games, and coming out next year.

No not really.

You have seen what happened to Sony and Sega right? (Infighting killed Sega, between Murica and Japan) ( Sony just lost 100million dollars on a failed SSM side project)

Honestly Nintendo made dumber decisions cough sega deal cugh

Huh? I have no idea what you're on about. NoA is an empty shell of its former self. They, along with NoE should be given more responsibilities. They need to be a big part of it all.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
I was expecting a Naruto game for PS4, sooner or later. Certainly, I wasn't expecting it to be one of the few non-cross-gen titles for the platform, though!

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 the same day as BloodBorne, right? That'll be a good day for PS4, hopefully (more like a good month: Yakuza comes out in March too).

BloodBorne, Disgaea 5, Pirate Warriors 3 and Senran Kagura for 3/26 in Japan.

we calculated that probably could outsell wiiu ltd by end 15/early 16, right?
for when could it reach Vita ltd, based on the same assumptions?

My guess is before fall 2016 if something good/great happens (big exclusives/pricecut/special offer or announcement, etc)

PSVita has 1.5 million more LTD than Wii U: that would be possible imho (considering that Vita is still selling, better than Wii U) if PS4 will catch Wii U's LTD before Fall '15
right?

Psv dosn't look like it will have any exclusive games from any big Ip that made PSP so popular ,starting by 2015 psv vita yearly sale will fall.
By January vita should had 3.5 millions and i think in 2015 psv will sold 700k,500k in 2016 and 300k 2017 which will put it to 5 millions.
I'll predict ps4 will do 1.5m in 2015,1.2m 2016,1.5 in 2017 which will put it to 5.1 millions so i think it will outsell it by end of 2017 then increase the lead.

I was thinking of doing it, but unfortunatly, I will have to come back to my country in a few months, so I won't be able to do it forever.
Enjoy as much as you can now. I will too ;)

get married with a jpn "garl" and you can stay here ;)
