French television has confirmed there were three attackers, not two.

Guardian now reports of possibly 4 attackers:

Rocco Contento, a spokesman for the Unité police union, has told reporters that three attackers got into a getaway car driven by a fourth man on fleeing the building and drove to Port de Pantin in north-east Paris, where they abandoned the first car and hijacked a second – turning the driver out into the road.

The French have highly trained special forces groups, but regardless, securing a metropolis like Paris after this type of attack is incredibly difficult. No matter how good they are, if terrorists armed and trained like that want to make a bigger mess before they go down, it's near impossible to stop them.

I imagine you were in London or a transport hub and saw one of our firearms unit. They make up a very small number of our total police force - vast majority unarmed.

Sorry, I meant every cop outside of the UK.

Charlie Hebdo shooting: 'several terror attacks' foiled in recent weeks, says Francois Hollande

French president confirms 11 dead in terror attack following "several threats" to Charlie Hebdo magazine and numerous foiled attacks

Several terrorist attacks have been foiled in France in recent weeks before the attack on Charlie Hebdo magazine's offices, Francois Hollande has said.

The French president confirmed the shooting in Paris's 11th arrondissement on Wednesday was a terror attack, and said the hunt for the gunmen was under way.

"We are at a very difficult moment. Several terrorist attacks have been impeded during the previous weeks. We are threatened because we are a country of freedom," said Mr Hollande. "We fight threats and we will punish the attackers. Eleven people are dead. We will look for the people responsible."

The French president was talking from the scene of the shooting, in which 11 people were killed by gunmen said to have been wielding machine guns before fleeing the scene. The French government will hold an emergency meeting at the Elysee Palace and the security level in Paris have been raised.
Meanwhile, David Cameron condemned the "barbaric attack", and said Britain "stands united with the French people" against terror.
He told the House of Commons: "I'm sure the whole House will want to join me in condemning the barbaric attack on an office of a magazine in Paris, in which it is report ten or more people may have been killed. "While details are still unclear, I'm know that this House and this country stands united with the French people in opposition to all forms of terrorism, and we stand squarely for free speech and democracy. These people will never take us off those values."

Ed Miliband said he felt "horror at this outrage", adding: "We stand in solidarity with the people of France against this evil. We are determined to defeat them."

Been thinking about the argument that you can't expect peaceful Muslims to protest against terrorism.

On one hand, I agree. You can't, it's not their fault.

On the other hand, it might still be in their best interest. For instance, tens of thousands of Germans have publicly protested against the anti-Islam PEGIDA marches. Which has been reported internationally alongsides the PEGIDA stuff.

Some "positive PR" really can't hurt, especially if the public image of your group can have a very real impact. I'm sure French Muslims would rather not have a Le Pen-led government...

I honestly think the simple minded who votes FN in France, i don't mean the pure racist, but the people who are afraid of muslims and things like that, those people would be sensitive to a nice warm muslim word against all that. That's really the best strategy.

I think these are the shooters.

And they got away. My god how much does our police suck to not be able to block that tiny narrow street.

Everything sound and look like pros. Not just two lunatics going in without any plan.

Actually, their aim is usually to destabilize their home countries and fuel hatred between muslims and non-muslims. I'm pretty sure they would be pleased with your suggested course of action.

Yes, they will surely be pleased with more "blasphemy" in circulation, absolutely delighted.

Let's be a little tad more realistic here: Terrorists groups never aspire to "chaos" or "hate". They are not a cartoon villian organization. They have political aims and use terror in the broadest sense of the word in order to archieve said aims. They want to create a new political system or at least, to create a new politic climate or policy that replaces the current ones, like every single terrorist group that ever existed, let it be the IRA, the Tamil Tigers or Al-Qaeda. I don't think that these will be any different.

Except that won't happen, unless magazines/newspapers want to start installing high security entrances and hiring armed guards, the answer to this will in fact be a shying away from publishing potentially offensive material out of a fear of their staff their targeted.

In short, they would reach their desired aims. That's just fucking great. Self-censoreship is not "respect", is defeat.

The black car was abandonned near Porte de Pantin in the 19th district of Paris, news said they might have changed vehicules and stole a red car. They probably left Paris.

You know why, you just don't agree with it. A lot of people don't agree with the reason why.

Also, I haven't heard of any Christianity driven killings in the past few years, or decade. Mass shootings in the United States have entirely different stigmas brewing.

this has been posted and removed several times throughout this thread now. Nobody needs to see a person being executed.

whoever wants to watch these kinds of clips can just watch them on liveleak as they're being released.

OK i've removed it.

Just saw a french journalist and humorist (Mathieu Madeignan) learn about the confirmed death of his friends and co-workers live on TV, it feels so fucking unreal.

One example, versus dozens fueled by the teachings of Islam, and he went off the deep-end BECAUSE of his rage at this shit. Not condoning what he did, it was fucking terrible.

Also, guys, I don't know what the rules are for these videos, but can you please at least post a giant fucking warning when you post videos of human beings being MURDERED?

Jesus christ, they're getting away? for real?

well, now it's up to reddit to "analyze" footage and track down the attackers random "muslim looking" men

A mixture of luck, police errors and well trained/armed/prepared attackers. Wouldn't surprise me if they were ex-military from somewhere.

Television says the attack occurred as the whole staff was having their daily meeting in the same room so the terrorists must have known about their schedule

Absolutely horrible.

This will be fuel to the fire of the various anti-islamic and right-wing movements in European countries. Fucking 'great'. The Pegida movement will surely abuse this incident next week and draw an even bigger crowd of protesters in the future (which sucks because I live in Dresden).

Don't give in to the hate, France. That's what the religious terrorist scum wants. Millions of muslims are targeted by the IS idiots as well and thousands have already died by their hands.

The cunts who did this are well beyond reason but we really need to address why young muslims are feeling so alienated and turn to the ideology of these monsters. 12 dead now, fucking hell. I really hope indigenous french people don't start pointing the finger and becoming suspicious of their muslim brothers and sisters. These scumbag terrorists want that division. This is the most monstrous ideology I've seen in my lifetime. Even the taliban thought these guys were too extreme( assuming connection with Isis, perhaps incorrectly). My thoughts go out to the families of those killed.
