Everything about the trailer seemed rushed to me. There were more than a handful of worthless shots and pans that don't do anything but take up space. Some shots you can't even make out what you're supposed to be looking at!

I'm still interested in the movie but I can't blame people for finding the teaser mediocre. That suit is pretty baller though.

Did Michael Douglas say "I need you to be the Entenmamn?"

First tragedy, then farce.
Well..

that certainly looked generic.

Had high hopes this would be more GOTG light-hearted fun romp given the lead casting and original director.

Guess we know why Edgar Wright isn't involved any longer.

I want a Pym adventure that's being told as a story from Hank to Scott where at one point we see something Hank wasn't actually present for. Scott calls him on it and asks how he could possibly know that detail and Pym looks befuddled until he just says "um... there were ants in the room...?" Both characters would sit awkwardly for a second until the story abruptly starts back up again.

"Story by Edgar Wright", yes they reworked his script but the tone and themes are probably lifted right out of his work. I don't know where the assumptions are coming from that the movie will be too serious, the teaser is pretty similar in tone to any of the first teasers to these Marvel movies (the sole exception being GOTG which was flippant from the start).

Scott Lang trying to save his daughter is something that's always going to come off as serious, but the movie will certainly not be lacking in levity. Rudd is going to be the audience's window into the film and will reassure the viewer that "Ant-Man" is not something to be taken too seriously. As we can clearly see from the trailer.

I'm really very excited for the movie, but that trailer did nothing to affect those sentiments.

I now know what I had previously strongly suspected, it will be serious and fun simultaneously.

Upside, inside out he's livin la vida loca, He'll push and pull you down, livin la vida loca
That's not where I was going with that. Almost every Marvel movie looks really nice and GotG had some of the best CGI scenes of 2014, but the way the MCU is set up is basically the same as a television show. You've got your big overarching story (the A-plot) that's filled with episodes (the non-Avengers movies) that feature their own little plot, but in the grand scheme of things still purely exist to continue the overarching plot (either through explicit references or the post-credits scenes). You even see this pattern in the directors Marvel uses. Why do you think that Marvel loves television directors so much (Whedon, the Russo's)?

That's also the whole reason why someone like Thanos was in Guardians of the Galaxy. He didn't need to be there, the movie would've made perfect sense if all his scenes were cut. You'd have a story about Ronan who searches for the Infinity Stone to destroy Xandar. Thanos was just kinda added in because he's going to play a much bigger role later on and the people need to know who he is.
Oh I know, I actually agree with your statement, I just couldn't help myself given the constant pot shots (some in this very thread!) on how MCU movies look like TV shows.

at least we can all agree that the suit looks dope as fuck
Truth, it's a bad-ass, high budget, Kamen Rider suit.

The trailer is not that good but sheesh some of you drinking edgar wright's kool aid without even waiting to see how the rest of the trailers and the actual movie turns out is hilarious.

Uhh I wasn't paying attention properly and accidently went into the Ant Man production thread.

Problem is that many have got the idea that this film will be shit and nowhere near as fun as if Wright was still attached stuck in their heads, regardless of the fact that, like you said, majority of the film will probably be the same and just adapted to fit the visual style of the other marvel films, plus some additional ties to the MCU.

I have faith the film is gonna be a lot of fun and, if people could get past the whole “I wish Wright was still attached” im sure they will probably enjoy the film but that dye is cast and im sure even if the film was amazing and Oscar worthy they would still come back with “Would have been better if Wright directed it”.

I don't mind if the movie is serious, the teaser just wasn't good.

What he would bring with his unique visual style and script was why I was looking forward to this more than anything else in the genre

With him and Cornish gone obviously I wouldn't really give a shit about the movie, unless the marketing turned out great and...well....

Yeah and that's fine because the teaser didn't do the best job of balancing Pym's self-seriousness with Rudd's flippancy, his lines coulda been a home run but they were just kinda there.

but shit like this

Wright was the only reason to be excited for this. Peyton Reed? lol

and people acting like the movie is going to be Nolan-dark are getting a little heavy handed

Amazed at how many people swear by Wright, I've never considered him a great filmmaker.
I'm excited to see more Ant-Man stuff, most of that trailer was just shots of people walking.

Do you think they are going to explain why he doesn't just shrink and eat gigantic slices of cake all day?

I think it's all I would do if I had those powers.

From the studio that bought you Guardians of the Galaxy is a movie so ridiculous that marketers could only show two small clips of Paul Rudd making sarcastic quips. << This is sarcasm. I don't know anything about Ant-Man at all. Read one Marvel Zombies comic and a dozen threads over the Edgar Wright dismissal last year. The trailer footage lacked any and all substance and a very serious tone.

Because it is. Do you even watch Arrow? Or any of the MCU movies for that matter?

I've watched all of the MCU and all of Arrow. You're saying that Arrow being not a good show (your opinion) means it does not as high production values as was shown in this trailer, but your opinion doesn't mean that. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that the production values shown in this trailer seemed very high.

Before 2014: Joe and Anthony Russo? You, Me and Dupree? lol
Ehm, Joe and Anthony Russo were pretty accomplished directors before TWS, we just didn't know they had it in them to make an action movie. Their work on Community and especially Arrested Development is impressive as fuck. They even won an Emmy for AD.

Uh, the Russos had like a year of pre-production. Reed had what, 2 weeks? Not even remotely comparable. He's just pointing the camera and shooting someone else's stuff, and this crappy trailer does nothing to imply otherwise.

In addition to getting story credit, Edgar Wright is also credited as executive producer.

He has no credit on the screenplay, just story.

Darabount still has opening title credit on Walking Dead after being canned 3+ years ago. A lot of this credit stuff can be chalked up to legal wrangling. Almost anyone who touches a movies plot gets story credit (Jack Kirby certainly didn't contribute to the movie on screen), and the executive producer credit can be chalked up to a lot of casting and pre-production work being done under Wright. He's not been involved since principal photography began.

Look, they had a shot to convince me this was going to still be a rally fun comedy. They blew it by making a super serious trailer that fell totally flat.

If they can convince me that it is still in line with Edgar Wright's vision I'll jump back on the hype train. But right now one of my favorite directors got bounced, and the film as shown has taken a sharp turn from his original concept video and normal work.

He actually had a few months.

If he shrinks after jumping, where is his shrunken form displaced? Does it stay at his centre of mass? Is it at his feet? Wouldn't the fall to the ground kill him?

This, and the cake question, are questions I need answered.

It goes to the place Thor's conjured lightning comes from.
