DanganRonpa 2 has the worst ending of any VN of repute. Un-fucking-believable

Junko's still hot, though. Guess that's cool.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that, I didn't think it was as great as the first, but I didn't mind it and it gets things going for the 3rd one. Also, agreed.

BTW, I didn't know I wanted to buy Brandish until I saw the OT and read more about it. Now I can't wait to play it.

Phoenix Wright Dual Destinies.
It felt like there should've been at least one more major twist before the culprit's final breakdown. The last few bits of evidence were waaaaay too obvious and unsatisfying as a conclusion. Not to mention the lack of payoff in not seeing his face.

I have noticed a lot of Japenese PSM games lately. Maybe they are selling over there?

Seeing the kind of garbage Sony lets onto PSM with lax checks I think it more has to do with the gates are wide open for anyone to dump whatever they want lol.

The Japanese PSM games I have looked at seem to be a lot better but few have English text. If the Solbrain guy is from Japan, I take that all back but that game has all the markings of some white guy who is trying to do Japanese stylings.

The company behind solbrain seems shady as fuck. If you look at their earlier titles you can see one of them is using some fanart of Yoko from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. In Japan they go by a different name forgot what it was. Its due to Sony not actually checking what they are putting up on there. Am sure if they took the time to do some real digging that they would bar that company from ever being able to put items up for sale.

The associated website Lightning Games or whatever says that its based in California but the support address is for some country in Europe. Also they stole art from Experience Inc for the page on the Unity store.

Their store page has been removed.

RE: Atelier crafting.

In some ways, the games have a fantastic crafting system. You gather materials from each location (fighting often optional) and then go mix things together. Everything has traits and grades, and the crafting is very deep. You're often crafting stuff that is just used to make other stuff... but carefully managing how traits get passed down the line.

For example, (making this up), say you've been making everything with 'water' and you find 'water' with the trait 'holy'. You now remake your mud (water + dirt) with holy water to pass along the holy trait. Then you remake your mudcake with the new mud. Then you remake your 'dinner' with the new mudcake. All so can get high level food with that 'holy' trait, but now multiply by tons of traits and ingredients and recipes. Etc.

Where it all falls apart for me (as does the entire game) is the time limits the ones I've played impose. Crafting X might take 10 days. Another thing 5 days. You've got a time limit on the entire game. And while the time limit may be generous and not particularly strict, I find it extremely stressful and it makes me feel like i'm always crafting the wrong stuff (even when I'm probably fine). (There's also some related game I played that had a weird roulette mini-game built in that made crafting infuriating, but I'm not sure which that was)

I've tried two of them, got pretty far, and gave up on both. It doesn't help that they're a bit... cutesy for my taste. I'm much more at home with darker and/or mature themes than I am with lollipops and rainbows.

There aren't enough alternatives for digital games besides PSN to make it worth it. In almost all cases, the PSN store's price is the best price. In some very rare cases, something will happen like Amazon will price match then forget to change the price back, but... you'll be perfectly fine just paying attention to the PSN sales / flash sales.

If you're talking physical, then there are some price checker sites, obviously.

Japan is Vita's best single territory, so PSM titles doing okay over there wouldn't surprise me. I think the proliferation of professional, or at least semi-professional Japanese PSM games is a result of the indie floodgates not being opened for regular PSN over there. If you look at the digital-exclusive content library for all PlayStation platforms, you'll find few Japanese indie games. Part of that is definitely the result of a culture still tied heavily to physical goods, but I don't think Sony is blameless either. As a result, some single devs or super small studios push content through PSM. Sales are low in absolute terms, but given some of these guys used to sell their content exclusively through conventions, I imagine sales aren't too out of the norm for them.

Hamster releasing Appli Archives through PSM confuses me, though. They've published native Vita games in the past and Arcade Archives are native PS4 releases. PSM for Android is basically dead at this point. So they're not hitting two birds with one stone (not that PSM's Android implementation was ever good or provided a decent reason as to why you'd use that vs. Google Play) and are just limiting their sales audience. The only thing I can think of is that they want to put these out globally with as little effort as possible (unlike regular PSN, PSM allows a single global submission - if you're approved for release in Japan, you're approved for release everywhere) and/or SCEJ didn't want them spamming up the Vita store with weekly dumps.

As for B.P., I'm pretty sure he's not Japanese. I compile the PSNStores PSM blog posts and IIRC his first handful of (non-Solbrain) releases were not put out in Japan.

Youtube suggestions are the worst. Every time i look at gaming related videos for story related games i always clear history after i'm done. Im sure there are probably options to disable suggestions or something but yeah i dont even bother lol.

I've encountered multiple spoilers, but I don't really remember any of them because they didn't make sense to me.

The week that I played DR2 I totally avoided all Vita threads and YouTube too. I made the mistake of watching the awful anime adaptation for DR before the game came out here. Went into DR2 blind and it was great.

Interesting. I know looking at the number of ratings on the store says nothing but are there many ratings for PSM games on Japanese PSN?

The Appli Archives would probably do better as a $20 collection instead. Most are more curiosities than something most people would want to play more than once.

(1) The mods of GAF are anything but consistent. Through personal experience and that of posters I've known in my tenure on this site, moderators use their power in a lot of ways that aren't objective or fair. After having contacted no less than 3 moderators trying to report someone's extreme personal attacks on me and my family (for no reason), I eventually got a response to my "business-like" demeanor which was merely to use a PM warning to the poster in question. Meanwhile, people like Takao who remark on a company's choices of where to port a game get banned for "port-begging", I've been banned for voicing my opinion on a developer, and I've seen other banned for stating their opinions on other matters because certain mods have personal vendettas or take more offense to a comment than 99% of GAF would in general. Futhermore, I've seen mods sweep issues under the rug in community rather than let the community work it out, closing legitimate opinion threads aimed at discussion and awareness because they felt it was trolling for some reason, and a bunch of other questionable decisions. in my personal experience, moderation on GAF is pretty much a joke as people are given power and seemingly left to their own agendas afterwards. From my experience in the last 6 years, they're only responsive when they want to be and when it suits their interests. Maybe you've had good luck with them, but as far as I'm concerned, time and time again they've given me little reason to believe in their fairness, objectivity, and willingness to enforce site TOS and guidelines.

a) Each moderator is an individual person who reads different threads and is interested in different things, so it's natural that we might have different opinions of and reactions to different situations. However:
b) Most moderation on this site is done by committee these days, particularly any instance where several people are being banned at once for something in particular. Discussion can and frequently does have a major impact on the direction of action taken. I guarantee that most examples you have in mind of a moderator "misbehaving" are the result of discussion between several moderators.
c) Context is a guiding factor for a lot of moderation decisions. Some behavior is identified as problem behavior when it begins to come up often. For instance, port begging Bayonetta 2 became a bigger issue when so many people were doing it, and so the consequences for doing it became greater. Conversely, were someone to do something for a game/platform that hasn't become a problem, the consequences will be much less. With that said:
d) All bans are recorded so every other moderator can see it and question it. If a ban is not justified, it will probably end up being reversed. These records are heavily factored in when determining what action to take toward a particular user, on top of whatever reason they're being looked at for action to begin with. "I don't like this person" is not a valid reason to ban someone, and would never fly.
e) You have zero bans on file. While it is possible that your bans you mention were not logged, it's very unlikely; that almost never happens due to how drilled-in the ban process is for everyone on staff.
f) Being a moderator on this forum is a volunteer position, which means that, yes, we will only do work when we want to. I should hope that this does not come as a shock to anyone. We are not paid employees.

Again i'm just amazed i haven't spoiled anything considering how often it's talked about here.

I`m honestly want to play this series blind like i did persona 4 so i could enjoy it at it's fullest.

(2) Sure, Hotline Miami had a PC version... but if you're in a console thread talking about console games... it would follow that you'd be talking about controllers, not kb/m (unless it's some strange game like UT3 on PS3 where you could use USB kb/m if you so desired).

(3) As far as Bayonetta 2 goes, SEGA owns the IP, Nintendo merely funded development. So it's not like asking for the next Zelda game to be put on xbox/playstation/pc. However, I think you'd get a similar response should you make a thread about Halo MCC needing a PC port. Whether you "derail a thread" because you're saying "this should come to my platform of choice" or you go and make an entirely new thread dedicated to it, port begging is port begging. I personally think the "rule" of banning for "port begging" is fucking stupid to begin with, but this goes back to (1) and the consistency of GAF moderation.
Aena answered your first point very well, so I'll answer your other ones...

2) If you're in literally any thread talking about a multiplatform game, it is entirely reasonable to bring up other versions of the game and the advantages or disadvantages of playing it on different hardware. I don't understand why this doesn't seem self evident to you.

3) Nintendo owns Bayonetta 2. They have exclusive rights to that game. It is no different from how they own Zelda. Halo MCC needing a PC port is different for exactly the reason I stated. There is a very good reason for a Microsoft-published game to come to the PC. AFAIK, windows is a greater source of income for Microsoft than Xbox is. That is entirely different.

as for your last bit -- you went off topic -- Aena's answer covers it, but if you don't like it, there's nothing keeping you here. I don't understand why you would write such a longwinded and emotional post just to wrap it up with "well really, I just don't like it" and expect that to be 1, convincing or 2, in any way reasonable.

That out of the way...
agreed, on both points lol
;)
e) Being a moderator on this forum is a volunteer position, which means that, yes, we will only do work when we want to. I should hope that this does not come as a shock to anyone. We are not paid employees.
How many hours/week (or /day if that's easier) do you guys put in to actively moderating? I've always wondered how much of a time commitment modding a big board would be.

I wouldn't really know. PSM isn't a part of the PlayStation Store's web interface. The only way to view content (in the west) is through the Store on Vita and/or Android (as newer titles use the newest SDK, the Android storefront sees few releases). To get screenshots/info for Japanese PSM titles, I use this. It has pages for every single game released on the service in Japan. Ratings aren't listed, though.

I was talking more about tracking how often a game goes on sale on PSN.

Like say, I was interested in getting Resogun, but not for $15. Checking history I'd see it's been on sale 5 times and chances are it'll be on sale again. In which case I'd prioritize a different game instead.

You can probably do a search on the Playstation Blog by the game and see when they are on sale. Yeah the sales have the same games over and over.

Love that game. I thought the PS2 version was better. They made the PSP version a lot easier probably for good reason.

The LINE link seems to be broken for me.

Also, the talk about best warriors game, I've done some research into the matter myself and it seems that Samurai Warriors 4 is actually the one to get on Vita. However, there's a SW4-II coming to Japan soon that hopefully makes its way over here so I might wait for that.

Also Part 2, does anyone have Field Commanders on Vita, and can speak to how good it holds up? Used to LOVE that game.

Oh, yeah, nothing like that that I know of. Some of us can probably help you out with specific titles... I know I've been following PSN sales for years now.

All in all I'd say the vast majority of the time you can't really depend on a game being on sale again. Unlike, say, the Steam Sales, I never 'wait for the next time a game is on sale' on PSN if it's at a price I can justify/afford, because that next sale may never come.

There are significant exceptions. Final Fantasy has a sale once a year or so. Rockstar has sales regularly. Atlus sales are so often it's joked about, though do go on extra super deep discount on extremely rare occasions. And then other oddities, like say, Zombie Driver HD seem to go on constant sale. Pinball Arcade seems about once every year or two.

But in general? IMO most games seem to get one to three sales then leave sale rotation.

Oh, and always grab ps1/psp games you want if they go on sale. These go on sale rarely. (exceptions noted above - ff, atlus, etc).

Also, none of this applies for localizations. They may get a sale, they may not. It's far more hit or miss than, say, something like Ollie Ollie or Binding of Isaac.

Or buy them full price, which will trigger a sale for the rest of us. (I've done my part for this, having bought at least 4 psp games that have never gone on sale before only to see a big sale within the month).

As for Resogun... hmmm, it was ps+ from the get go, and has been on sale, and is enough of a headliner to probably go on sale again someday, but is worth full price if you ask me.

What's "ending" here? The final chapters? The last nonstop debate? The very last scenes?
Also, high-five about the spoiler part.

felt important when I saw it. Not too big stuff, at least.

Not really sure what you're looking for, but I use

They have only started a couple of weeks ago, so their information on past sales is still small.

Some leaks from JP magazines

- Cross Ange (PSV) - Action game based on the "hit" anime
- Pro Yakyuu Spirits 2015 (PSV/PS3) - Best baseball game won't come out on PS4 this year, lol

Looks like there is also a STG for a playstation hardware (Astebreed? Ubusuna?)

No reason why it should come out on the PS4 either. If you knew the market here the PS4 is not all that important yet and said series does not even go West, therefore they would not need to please the whiny ass market who demands everything be on the PS4.

Makes perfect sense to me why its going to be PSV / PS3.

At least Konami are consistent with their (terrible) decisions, lol.

I was waiting for my Dead Kings DLC to finish downloading (8gb) but when I went upstairs, it stopped without any reason at 30%. ETA was 4 hours.

I paused it and unpaused it and it started downloading again with a 30 min ETA.

Is this a known bug or something?
