The game, in its "original" form (which is the term the classification board uses when a game hasn't been modified for release), was rated here in Australia on November 6th and hasn't been resubmitted. Unless Techland employs a team of seers, there's no way that the events of this month had an effect on development.

and I did not see any zombies in that attack or afterward

Movies do it. They release two weeks 'early' on digital stores now.
But games can't yet because they need you to keep the actual stores you buy the consoles and accessories from happy and alive.
I know Sony or Microsoft have constraints because they need the retailers to sell their consoles. But what about the third parties?
Video game shops will refuse to stock a publishers games if they tried what you are suggesting.

Third parties make most of their money from physical sales on those very same consoles. They gotta be where their games sell. They are trying to be a neutral party with retailers and make sure the retailer still wants to sell the games. So they don't want to upset the stores and aren't going to do physical delays.
But they will continue to make digital very convenient and allow stores like Best Buy and Gamestop to sell digital stuff. This is effectively converting people to digital without attacking retail directly. Over time, there will be less and less reason to visit a GameStop for games.
Beyoncé's last album is actually a good example of this. Target would not sell her album in stores because she sold it early digitally, ruining Target's chance of the big first week volume for physical copies.

Off topic but man im still of the mindset that those claims of racism had a negative effect on RE5
(especially if the concept art is anything to go by. example Jill having an expanded role that was potentially cut for more Sheva).
I don't think RE4 ever got controversy, only RE5 which may have had an impact on development (alongside several other factors).

Afaik there is no review embargo for Dying Light so i hope that we will see some reviews soon.

update : Jeuxvideo.com (biggest french vg website) is reporting the possibility of the game "trying to avoid controversy".
They're basically reporting the first rumor, adding that it could be a mission where you had to kill a group of muslim women zombies. It's unclear in their article if they're making a wild guess or if that's what they heard.
The digital version would allegedly suffer no delay because it would be easy to remove the controversial content until the last minute while the physical version needs to be fabricated again.
I wish techland were more forward with this and told us either yes or no, it's the reason of the delay. We'll know eventually when the US version will be compared with the version from the rest of the world.

Maybe they're not afraid of shocking the US with a muslim controversy. I don't know and i wish techland would tell us what's going on.
