Halo: The Master Chief Collection Beta Update Program Announced

Beta testing future updates(which I assume will encompass add-ons like ODST) is great and more games should do it. But when your game is the epic disaster that MCC has been, this is just bad. No game needed actual beta testing more than Halo MCC.

There isn't a way in hell I trust 343 after this.

A beta upgrade program? Now that is pretty sad.

On a side note, I am literally on my way to the Microsoft Store to return my Xbone because of how buggy MCC is.

Man that just makes it sound like this is going to be a long process. You don't start this up if you expect this to be all wrapped up in the next couple weeks.

What's all this about? Hadn't heard anything about this.
Part of the SDK leak:

In 2014 Multiplayer, the title places game party members into multiplayer session directory (MPSD) sessions to manage connectivity and report multiplayer interactions. The interaction with MPSD sessions by the title uses the Xbox Services API (XSAPI) and/or the Xbox Live Services RESTful API.
2015 Multiplayer Design The most obvious change implemented in the 2015 Multiplayer is that titles no longer need to access multiplayer functionality through game parties. Instead, they can now perform all multiplayer-related operations directly, using MPSD sessions.

....

Two versions of the multiplayer are available for Xbox One:
2014 Multiplayer. This version is based on the concept of the "game party" and participation in games through parties. This version will be deprecated in later releases.
2015 Multiplayer (previously 2015 Multiplayer Preview). This multiplayer version abstracts the game party concept and uses the multiplayer session directory (MPSD) to control game sessions.

There are changes to the way matchmaking will be handled in new APIs MS released in the latest SDK. They are labeled the 2015 matchmaking APIs. Some had guessed that MCC was one of the first to use them and as such stumbled upon some rather large issues when it reached the general public.

Wont this split the user base further for the lucky souls out there who can actually find games?

And at one point do they just write this game off? We're getting close to three months of continuous patches here.

One more reason why i could not care less about Halo anymore. 343 have completely ruined this thing, both Halo4 and this game...what hope is there for halo 5?

It's still not fixed? Nearly bought a XB1 for this, thinking it was going to be this gen's Orange Box. The fuck happened...

Yeah I mean it's basically CTE but for Halo but yeah this should have never happened for a 1st party game. Whatever it takes to get this fixed I guess.

There really should be a formal product recall program in place for people that are having serious issues that have been unaddressed.

I'm starting to feel quite disgusted that three months later I still have a digital product that doesn't work as advertised and that I can't do anything with it.

I didn't hate Halo 4, but it was definitely a step backwards for me. But one of the main reasons I bought an Xbox One over the holidays was MCC. Suffice it to say I no longer own an Xbox One, I got a full refund for my digital copy of MCC, and now I couldn't really give two shits about the series anymore. It's amazing what a clusterfuck can do to your enthusiasm for a series.

y'all should be ashamed

Whoa, that's a crazy sounding change. Wonder why they're doing that.

Huh I wonder if they did...

they shouldn't have used the term beta

should have been public test program or something

Halo: MCC Update Testing and Rollout Program.

Someone should have thought this through.

I'm starting to feel quite disgusted that three months later I still have a digital product that doesn't work as advertised and that I can't do anything with it.

Hasn't MS been issuing refunds on MCC if you ask? Did you ask?

It'll only be split for however long the beta lasts. They will get an update that will remove the beta update. No way the final update comes out before mid February.

Can we finally agree that this is worst than DriveClub? I don't know what to even say about this whole ordeal. I just don't get it. This is a Microsoft studio. This shouldn't be happening

The impression I get is that a bunch of different teams worked on different games/modes in the package, and very little testing went into how it all worked together. I've never played a game that had so many components so completely broken in a retail non-beta release. Phil Spencer should be doing the Sony bow every time he speaks in public until this mess is cleaned up.

Wow. Just wow. It's been 9 weeks since release. 9 patches. A beta for Halo 5. And now a beta patch for the game.

They better be extending that compensation gift for the people that have picked up this albatross of a game in the past month. Heck they better be giving us even more. Give me Halo Reach in 1080 and 60fps with the multiplayer, and you'll have a happy camper.

For the record, yes beta testing game updates/patches is a thing.

It's just hilarious in this instance because

a) It's 2 months later and the game is still broken to begin with
b) They actually called it a beta rather than a "test branch" or some other terminology
