Time for a group study session then.

Except... Everybody is busy so there's not a lot of studying done in the end. Good thing it all works out somehow anyway. Oh, and there's random Marvel and Super Puzzle Fighter II posters in the backgrounds as well.

I love this show.

This show continues to astound me, and I havent actually watched it yet!

Azumanga Daioh 06-08

Festivals of culture and sport, and a trippy dream episode. I can see how the dream episode would later influence things like Hidamari Sketch's Yuno fever dream, but the goals were decidedly different there. For one, while this does reveal/expand on things we already knew about the characters, it was mostly done for comedy, while Hidamari had a tendency to be more introspective about itself.

I'm noticing the show's not afraid to let a joke linger, either. There are some quick jokes - like Tomo dropping Chiyo while stretching - but others like the last walk around the school, petting Tadakichi, or the over-over-extended manzai gag in the dream that go on for longer than one would think is necessary, but not so much that you want the joke to end already.

Azumanga daioh was the prototype for a lot of slice of life ideas.
Thats the episode with Chiyo's dad right?

Are there any good romcom or drama anime where it doesn't end upon the successful confession, instead we actual get to see the couple's relationship develop as well? One with 'relatively' normal people, so Mysterious Girlfriend for example doesn't count.

Because fuck me if there isn't a huge lack of that. I cannot stand the Mari Okada way of nonstop drama and suffering before the pair officially gets into a relationship and the show ends right away.

Oh and don't suggest Clannad (Afterstory), seen that and it's dogshit and... quite frankly they kinda skip from confession to marriage and pregnancy via handholding anyways.

Try Ai Yori Aoshi. Even though it tries to shoehorn harem stuff in there, really its just Aoi and Kaoru and those moments are absolutely beautiful.

Koufuku Graffiti - 01

Anime is SAVED.

My stomach is full

( yes i watched this episode while eating )

Love the chemistry between the 2 characters. Loving the food aspect of the show.
Feel like sasami@gabaranai on some points ( probably the same team ??? ) But overall this episode was a solid 9/10 .

Next episode is ....when i'll eat something else

Shaft once again saving anime. Seems to happen a lot. Somebody has to do it.

You guys were right I'm struggling to even find 10 good shows this year.

But this year is only 26 days old!

Gonna be the Twin-Tail! Episode 6

Twintails is love. Mitsuka's love bringing out the best in Erina, just absolutely cute. I like how this series seems like it's going down the lewd angle, then stops and goes to something more heartening.

Tailred is still best girl, but Twoearle steals the show often, usually with Aika having her in a headlock.

Also, the OP and ED are great, haven't skipped them once.

Twintails was easily AOTY last year.
Not even a contest.

It was - but I do wonder about it being the prototype, since there were similar manga that focused on classes beforehand - like Sensei no Ojikan/Doki Doki School Hours, whose manga predates Azumanga, and is itself descended from High School! Kimengumi. It's the most visible, and certainly one of the first brought over to the West (and did reform it by focusing on the girls), but even it has ancestors dating back even further.

I'm really stumped in regards to what show I want to watch next. I have no idea. I'm against the notion of forcing myself to watch something for the sake of it, as I'm the type of person that would rather wait a year or two and watch something when I feel like watching it rather that randomly putting it on for the sake of it. However...I really want to watch something, have some time on my hands but feel unmotivated to watch anything. I'm thinking of watching Tetsujin 28-gou next, it's been in my backlog for a while now but it's a bit on the longer side at the moment. Anyone here vouch for it? I know it'll be good, but a glowing response may push me over the edge. Either that or I could watch The tatami galaxy. Anyone here seen Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z-Hen? I've had it in my backlog for a while too, but looks a bit crazy for me at the moment. No idea what I want to watch. I could watch Fuujin Monogatari...another show in my backlog. It's a bit shorter and looks nice. Decisions...

Definitely watch The Tatami Galaxy. One of my favorite shows of all time! It's very unique, and in my opinion, Yuasa's best.

Shin Mazinger I hear is very good. I plan to watch it after I finish Mazinkaiser.

So the student council president is good at making tea, but not much else.

Good thing everybody else is better at helping out in the school cafeteria when they need to run it. A semi-random appearance by Miss Monochrome in this episode as well.

Hm... I should re-watch Ah! My Goddess sometime...

Absolute Duo - 04

So Chitoge joins the harem and shopping for new clothes was on the agenda.
It's somewhat cute with the misunderstandings, but aside from that this really isn't worth watching. I should stop, but I can't seem to do it.

You can, I have faith in you. After today you'll not watch the show for 2 weeks and by then you'll have realized that it was indeed shit that you couldn't care less about but kept going just because you 'invested' in it already.

Let go!

So is Higurashi worth a watch?

No, not only does it look bad but the characterization and plot are both a mess. The way the whole mystery is resolved too is so ridiculously dumb you'll feel bad having watched what is a 50 episode series.

Yeah I know a lot of people will vouch for that show, it's pretty popular and looks good! Been meaning to watch that for a while but I saw some supposed spoilers a while back and although that didn't deter me a whole lot it did make me less enthusiastic to watch it. What I saw was probably nothing and taken out of content in any case. Not seen anything from Yuasa, Ping Pong is also something that I'm meaning to watch now that you mention him.

I guess I've just seen too much slice of life stuff these days and I love the genre but have no idea how much more it can be pushed. Seems like I've seen the pinnacle already heh.

Planetes and Bokurano are also shows I want to watch soon too, but the art-style of Bukurano is putting me off and Planetes is a bit too long for me at the moment.

I really get the urge to watch things that a little bit different and left field you know? Things a lot of people don't talk about. Flag is an example of something I'm enthusiastic to watch right now, even though it doesn't look to be amazing, whereas I have no motivation to watch Baccano or FMA anytime soon even-though I have them in front of me ready to watch and I know they'll rock my socks off. Guess I'll just watch Tetsujin 28...

Shin Mazinger I hear is very good. I plan to watch it after I finish Mazinkaiser.

Thanks. Not seen anything in the series before, although it has interested me. Seems a bit too Shounen for my blood, and I don't mean that to come off as high and mighty. I just don't feel too in the mood for hot blooded stuff right now, you know? I don't know what I want to watch at all...blah. Lost my appetite for everything.

I say watch the first 8 episodes then stop.

Yuri Kuma Arashi Episode 4:

Even lesbian bears must play the game of thrones on occasion and on that note the romantic interlockings are starting to get a tad confusing. At any rate, this is starting to play out like Utena in reverse as the series is getting more and more grounded and lucid. I could mostly follow this, there are thing I still do not understand but that is more along the lines of withheld plot details and oblique motifs then inscrutable symbolism. Also, the characterization and backstory for Lulu bear was much needed, Shaba-da-do.

Nagi no Asukara - 13

Oh shiiieet. The sea god wasn't messing around. I have a feeling it's going to be a case of aldnoah zero though. The ceremony was pretty, and the chanting was a good mood setter.

The next couple of episodes were some of my favorite episodes in anime last year.

Now that my book is out, I can watch anime worry-free for a few weeks. Yay.

Absolute Duo 4

Woo, psycho teacher is back! Shoddy writing like that is making this more entertaining than it has any right to be.

Also, lol at that hand-holding scene in the mall. Someone should throw a censor over it and post it in one of those recent threads that have gifs likes those.

Agreed. I can't believe I stuck with it for so long. I barely have the patience for actually decent ~25 episode series these days. Anyway yeah, Higurashi left a bad taste in my mouth (season 2 in particular). It's just badly written.

From what little I've played of the VN it seems the anime has watered it down too. Should've kept that conversation about morning wood in the beginning, but I guess we can't have racy humor in our gory horror animus, gotta think of the children.

If you want good anime horror, I'd suggest Ayakashi: Bakeneko and Mononoke. They're more unsettling than scary, but there are some intense moments and each story is well written and stylishly executed.

This is actually my favorite light novel-based anime this season. The character interaction is fun, and the school is mysterious enough - and the characters are certainly wondering why - but it doesn't feel as militaristic as Fafnir or as cult-like as World Break. Becoming a Blaze is something people aspire to, but they know there's risks involved. And Julie is simply cute. Nozomi Yamamoto is doing a great job.

Exit, Pursued By a Lesbian Bear 04

Then what does the star necklace mean? The symbolism of the honey is becoming clear, and the bee was a constant presence in the episode, but just because I can understand it doesn't mean I can't get wrapped up in the atmosphere. And that dreamlike world is as strong as ever. I hope it never loses it.

Kamisama◎ 03

Nanami in Underworld is a fun diversion. Her talisman skills need work, though.

Don't let spoilers bother you too much. I've seen the ending of NGE and (both major plot points of) Death Note before I got into anime, I still plan to watch the first, and watched and enjoyed the second immensely.

Don't watch stuff when you're not feeling motivated to. If you're more interested in Flag than the better anime in your backlog, watch it. We all need to spice our hobby up sometimes to stay entertained. I've seen so much obscure/old stuff at this point that watching something mainstream/"mandatory" like Steins;Gate would be out of the ordinary for me, which probably means I should try it just for variety's sake.

And if nothing's doing it for you, take a break. You're not watching anime out of obligation, are you? ;-)

Undersea Super Train: Marine Express

What happens when you put classic Tezuka characters such as Astro Boy, Black Jack, Ban Shunsaku, Rock, Ham Egg, and various others on an undersea railway? A hi-tech murder mystery that slowly turns into something completely different and batshit insane, with them
traveling back in time and meeting Princess Sapphire (who's riding a flying Kimba), Don Dracula and Sharaku, who's trying to take the train and user it to find treasure in the ocean for some reason
.

Might I suggest Humanity Has Declined? It is completely out of left-field.

Edit: Or watch Mononoke for sheer insanity.

So they are on the human side of the wall? Then what the fuck does that stupid wall do? Do you need a human form from the court to get over, is it that easy? Why is the court so biased against the human side, what is it's purpose? She gave up on kisses (probably the Promised Kiss, whatever that is) what does that entail? What promise did Ginko make with Kureha (I assume) if one is a bear and the other is not? I have SO MANY QUESTIONS

I feel like this episode answered questions (and was actually well paced) but I also feel even more confused. The backstory and characterization were needed, though.
New ED art, RIP pancakes, but Solune should like this one

Thanks for the reply. No doubt spoilers shouldn't deter you from shows but it goes without saying that once the intrigue has been removed there's less urgency to watch something as I'm no longer champing at the bit to see it and have no care to see what happens next. I will watch Tatami Galaxy since well...it looks great and I own it but I guess it's not on the top of my must watch list. Same with steins gate as you mentioned. Another show my brother recommend to me and again a show that I already own on Blu-ray...with no eagerness to watch it whatsoever.

Like you said, I have no obligation to watch anything but I'm just soo depressed and have nothing to do. I'm so bored, and I have nothing to do. I find myself looking for snacks just to occupy myself so to speak recently due to having nothing to do. I open pages in my browser hopelessly hitting the refresh button hoping something good will appear. I get excited on Tuesdays due to a few podcasts that'll keep me busy for a while. I haven't even played any of my games in a while even though I'm excited to play them when I think of them but can't muster up the enthusiasm to pick up the 3DS or put on a show and it's making me sad. I'm not doing anything with my time and although watching shit or playing shit isn't the most productive thing I could be doing...it's something I guess.

Might I suggest Humanity Has Declined? It is completely out of left-field.

Thanks for the recommendation! Never heard of Humanity Has Declined, I'll be honest it doesn't look like my type of show but Mononoke looks straight up my alley (as in, artsy). I've had my eye on it for a while. The art style looks awesome but I still have no idea as to what kind of show it is lol. I do hear good things about it tho!

Yeah, I suppose I'm done with this. By no means is it badly produced, or shot. The designs are quite attractive and the colour work is good. I just can't engage with the material because I feel this is kind of the least interesting version of this kind of take.

I feel like if the series lent more into the setting in a more realistic manner or leant more into anime nonsense I'd enjoy it better but the balance this series strikes doesn't sit well with me. I just can't get myself to care about anything.

While this episode throws up a hell lot of questions, we finally get some much needed background story on Lulu and Ginko, a trade-off that I'll gladly take. T'was kinda nice to have an easily followable episode for once. Since Ginko got the necklace/locket from Kureha's mom and has to find Kureha for the promise kiss...man, who the heck knows how to interpret all this, but I'm more interested in finding out now, where I'm caring a bit more for our main characters.

Dude, I know your feelings. To be honest I'm wasting too much time on this hobby, and it's probably for the same reasons: Distraction from reality, and a sort of restlessness that drives me to occupy myself with something. I'm probably enjoying anime a lot less than I could be if I had my life in order.

I know some things that could help you though, but let's continue via PM since we're veering off topic.

I promised myself I would drop it but here I'm and after this one, probably for the long haul. An enjoyable and funny backstory even if I still have no clue what all those terms mean. The soundtrack and its use remains absolutely godly. Oh, I love the main judge and especially his shabadaduisms. Would watch it for them alone.

Lulu for worst onee-chan in all of history.
Loved this episode as we got a lot of backstory on Lulu and Ginko to a less extent. Also finally got to see Sexy, Cool and Beauty's bear forms animated. Life Sexy narrating everything and adding his own flare like the singing was gold. I was glad and relieved to see Lulu isn't a total monster and actually feels remorse for trying to murder her little brother so many times and failing only for him to die in a simple(for a bear) accident though again that accident involved him trying his hardest to please her. Curious about what this promise kiss thing is about and how Kureha's mother plays into this. I had figured out on the first episode due to the necklace that the mother was involved with the bears but I wondered to what extent.
