Hyrule Warriors: over 1m units shipped WW

It's a shame that this game cannot be played remotely. It's the only problem I have with it. When you use the controller, you just get the map screen or whatever -_-

Remote is pretty much how I play Hyrule Warriors (at least on solo). Hit the minus button.

What would be a smart idea is to at least try to tell buyers "Hey guess what, we actually have another Warriors game already out on Wii U worldwide; Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper!".

Is it on the eShop? If people can't find a retail copy they can grab it there.

It is, at full price! smh!

Also eugh at Hyper. I mean, I bought it but is a technical mess in one aspect, the draw distance of the enemies is too short so enemies could appear right in front of you and knock you down. That didn't bother me as much since I played 7 and 3 and even Samurai Warrios 3, on the Wii previously and really love Orochi 3 but is just not that great with that issue, if they could fix it that would be another story, I played Hyper for 200 hrs so believe me, the game is super playable when you adapt but could give a really bad impression.

Also, I was hoping that with Hyrule Warriors they release Samurai Warrios 4, DW8 and Orochi 3 Ultimate since one of the reasons that I played so much Hyrule Warriors was Off-Tv Play but alas...

Thats great that hyrule warriors sold well, hopefully that encourages Koei and Nintendo to have more collaborations in the future.

What I wouldn't give for a Fire Emblem Musou styled game...

Sadly I don't see Koei releasing any of their current Musou IP's on Wii U.

They could do it but It just wouldn't sell in both Japan and in the west.

Would they really not sell more than on Xbox One? In Japan that's obvious, but in the west, especially if the IP gets more attention thanks to HW, the audience will grow and I think they could get some decent numbers with it.

Also, once PS3 dies out, would it not be cheaper to start on Wii U and up-port to PS4 and Xbox One than build them natively on either console?

Doubtful. Just look at the sales of other games in the series when the Zelda licence isn't slammed on. It's pretty obvious that it's more related to Nintendo fans only buying Mario and Zelda games on Wii U. That's why 3rd parties gave up completely.

And pretty good is also relative. 75 is rather average.
Its a sad fate, isn't it? the state the Wii U is in, 3DS actually has an audience that can buy games like Monster Hunter, Kid Icarus, Bravely Default and FE Awakening, were they have a relatively healthy ecosystem, Wii U on the other hand has to be Mario, Zelda or a casual appealing title, not even fucking Tropical Freeze sold well on it.

Its a toxic environment, but...at least we have these great games.
Good for Hyrule Warriors though, it was fun and well made.

Still would be a matter of if an actual audience would show up.

Zelda fans bought Hyrule Warriors because it's got characters they're familiar with and a story they could likely understand without having to crack open history books for context. Therefore, I don't see too many of them doing likewise for a DW or SW release, when the majority wouldn't know a "Cao Cao" from an "Oda Nobunaga" (unless perhaps they played PKMN Conquest).

Musou has always sold better on PlayStation.

Lets use Samurai Warriors 3 as an example. The game was announced as Wii exclusive. It sold in 270,000 units in it's fist year (and 50k with a re-release). The game was then re-released 2 years later on PS3 and sold 350,000 units.

When is the last time you heard of a re-release selling more than the original, and on a completely different platform as well.

The fact is that Musou has never done well on Nintendo consoles and it's only due to the Zelda brand that Zelda Musou has done so well. Apart from that every other IP has failed on Wii U. Xbox is different as there is a sizeable audience in the west to buy mainline games. But even then, sales are low for spin off and non major titles and it may not warrant an Xbox version. As an example, Dynasty Warriors 8 was released on PS3/360. Yet Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires was not released on 360 because the game sells so little in the west anyway it wouldn't have made sense to port it and release it on Xbox.

Great!!

New series then.

I will get it at some point. Played a demo at a store and actually I thought the graphics and combat were pretty cool.

It's a good game, I'd be lying though If it didn't make me a bit glum that you could argue the Zelda brand name is what carried a simply good Wii U game beyond some other true Wii U greats that I feel deserved stronger sales.
I think this both shows that the franchise still has plenty to offer people and that Nintendo could really do with promoting some of their other series with even a fraction of the love they tend to shower Zelda with.

Congrats to tecmo/koei this game is awesome I hope this encourages collaborations with other franchises as well or the rebirth of mysterious murasame castle mosou style it's not like takamaru is a stranger to the Warriors franchise

Surprised to see Wii Party U on such a list. And sad to not see Pikmin 3 on the list, since it's a real masterpiece.
Much as I would like it to have, I don't think it's likely (but not impossible) that Pikmin has hit 1 million WW, but any game I said that was released before March 2014 was based on this list, which won't be updated for another 3 months. So anything that hit ~1 million during the last year isn't on there.

And Wii Party U got a pretty successful bundle in Japan during holiday 2013,which I think accounts for like 50% of its sales.

Lego City Undercover also I would think has crossed 1 million by now, wasn't it at 200k in the US as of early last year if not earlier, and in Japan it reached 70k? a while ago?

Up to date numbers are very scarce. No one has bothered posting updates in a long while so I think it's pretty realistic to think it's at 1 million if not VERY close to it by now.

I assume Pikmin 3 and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will cross the 1 million mark by the end of the quarter if they haven't done so already. Game & Wario, The Wonderful 101, and Bayonetta 2 will never reach that milestone, though.

Will we get an update on the million seller list (total sales) today at the investor's meeting?
There are a couple titles that should be able to reach the million seller list if given time like Pikmin 3, Lego City, and DK

Is that today? How many hours? That's like at 9PM EST right? So a little over 3 hrs?

Apart from the end of (financial) year report, don't they usually only announce titles that had 1 million shipped in that quarter/fy to date?

I doubt Pikmin 3 will ever get to 1 million, unless a ton of people picked it for their free game with Mario Kart 8.

Great for Hyrule Warriors, though. One of my favourite games last year, and it is definitely my favourite Musou game. I still need to beat the Adventure map before I get to the DLC I bought...

Last # I had heard for Lego City Undercover was EoY 2013 of 242K. It did very well.

Happy to hear it! It's a great game. Hopefully we'll get a sequel.

Man I see this gif everywhere but I never saw it actually in game. How exactly is it performed?

If I remember correctly...you have to exploit a glitch that involves setting up a co-op round between characters that have multiple movesets (re: Link, Zelda, Lana). When you have the second player drop out, the 2P's moveset will then default to the 1P's character, which is how hilarious results like this can happen.

Though, considering how freely weapon-swaps happen for the CPU in the other Adventure maps (you can see Lana using Cia's movesets and vice-versa), I almost wonder if the next game will eventually drop context and just make more it so more DW-style weapon switches are possible.

I have to admit I haven't been keeping up with all the patches but I'm pretty sure this will become an official feature at some point. Link does unique voices when doing the dance with Lana's summoning gate so either that voice sample is just a leftover joke from during development or that glitch just gives us early access to a feature that'll be patched in later.

(Might be 100% wrong on this, though. I haven't used that glitch since the week it was discovered.)

This is the result of developing a game that actually runs well on the console, and it properly marketed.

This is now more successful than any single Dynasty Warriors game in the U.S. if I read correctly.

Nice! I still have interest in this game since it released and need 100 more coins for platinum so I've been on the fence, but I'm not sure if I'd enjoy the combat. I really wish they released a demo.

Hyrule Warriors is going to outsell Dragon's Dogma, isn't it?

That's sad and funny and sad and great at the same time.

If you're in North America, the Wii U kiosks at most Best Buys have a demo for the game in them.

Did you like doing the Hurricane Spin through tall grass in Wind Waker? That's what it's like mowing down the basic baddies. It's a lot of fun. And then the enemy officers are Zelda-style duels where you lock-on and circle-strafe.

But combat is not the main point. The game is more about efficiently capturing and defending keeps to control the map, which sometimes involves escorts, rescuing allies, stopping roaming bosses, etc. Very engaging. :)

TBH it doesn't run that great and I never saw a single ad on TV.

The game sold well because it has the Zelda brand and it's pure fun! I'm amazed at how well TK managed to perfectly fit the Zelda series in a Musou. :p

Yeah, it's not the most optimized Musou game but it's really fun and the fan service definitely helped.
As long as it's well done, I'm fine with it <3

By the way, Tingle release tomorrow and still no trailer! :'(

mmmh...I thought it's by far the best running Musou game so far.
but I started to play HW rather late in it's lifetime after all the updates.

maybe it ran worse before?

woah...wait a minute...Tingle???
as playable character??? really?

Hmmm, will have to check. I'm in Canada so I'm kind of guessing I mighy be out of luck.

Oh okay, that sounds a little more appealing considering that sounds like it would add a more strategic element to it, which I definitely like.
