Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 hits Steam January 28th, $14.99, Dual Audio, 900p

GeDoSaTo is waiting to claim another game's soul, I'm sure. :p
Do we have to turn on the Durante signal?

Not a great port, but it works and runs very smoothly with a few technical issues to sort out. I imagine much of it will be patched and by the time Re;Birth 2, Fairy Fencer, and Re;Birth 3 (inevitably) make their way to the PC. I'm also sure that Idea Factory will be much better at this PC-fanangled stuff when they release their next titles as well.
Yeah, much like Dark Souls and FFXIII I'd imagine that this port is bad due to being their first PC game and the next ports will be better. I'm just happy that games like these are even making it to PC, honestly.

Well it seems to be using publically documented OpenGL libraries, so I guess you can start looking into more involved workarounds and fixes.

Surprised the game actually runs at 30+ fps on my PC when I'm well below the minimum requirements lol. Enjoying it so far.
Don't really care for 1080p, just glad games like this are even coming to PC.

Seems the windowed resolution determines the base rendering resolution? In that if you set it to 1600x900 windowed and then change to fullscreen it seems to look a bit better than leaving it at 1200x720 and changing to fullscreen

Whoops...

I'm on the fence about buying this, since I'm unsure if it will run in my system (it's a humble laptop with a Haswell-based ULV Celeron and HD graphics...) VC runs great at 720p for example, but that was a fantastic port, unlike what I'm seeing so far.

It is a good port if you are going to play @720p.

"Oops it's actually 900p not 1080p" is totally not cool and they should fix it if they want to have any credibility in the future.

For you.
Browsing through community hub screenshots, a 1440p picture, despite the low res textures, this definitely doesn't look upscaled.

Yeah,a guy posted this on the forum and it looks like native 1080p to me.

Not sure what to think now.

It's hard to tell to be honest.

edit: The 1440p screenshot on steam does seem upscaled. To me at least, especially on angles that are just off straight horizontal/vertical.

I'm crashing after the first "boss"
(Just after Neptune learns how to transform)

Fantastic.

Did anyone test this port?
Well..besides us of course (everyone that just bought the game).

They did which is how they discovered a bug towards the end of the game. It is why they delayed the release. While I will commend them for trying to put out a good port (well besides the 1080p to 900p thing...) but seems like they had too few PCs to test the port with. Now that it is out in the wild where there are so many different configurations, it broke their game.

Okay I got past it.
Apparently running the game in full-screen made the difference?
Or maybe it was because I waited a full second after the victory animation played. (apparently this has been crashing for some people)

Played around 2 hours so far. It's a mediocre port, but the game's more fun than I expected. Voice acting ranges from decent to cringe, par for the course I guess. Dual audio is nice and you can swap any time instantly.

Runs at 60fps no problem. Utilizes like 10% of my PC's resources lol

It does output at your display's native resolution but it appears to be scaling internally (hello Dark Souls). Though in this case with the generally low-ish fidelity of the game and anime artstyle I don't think it's too bad, but definitely a bit blurry. Unfortunately it's OGL and gedosato doesn't have any hooks for that (...yet?)

Honestly though I think it's fine so far, I haven't had any crashes or video playback problems people have been mentioning. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Bought the game and can confirm that the game runs on toasters (well, if you're playing on the worst of toasters like I am expect major framerate drops while running around on field but otherwise its fine), so I'm happy about that. First time playing a Neptunia game. Surprisingly fun.

Its unfortunate about the 900p thing, but mistakes can't be helped.

Can you tell me the specs of your toaster? xD I'm thinking about pulling the plug as I soon as I get my paycheck, but I'm still on the fence

When you run it in full screen it matches your native resolution and ignores the other setting. I'm getting native 1080p.

Interesting, yours looks sharper than mine. Did you restart the game after changing to fullscreen? Maybe the settings just don't get applied until restarting... I'm also getting weird noise artifacts that you don't seem to have. Little white dots as if there was a sharpening filter cranked way too high. Forced any settings through your drivers?

I knew this was going to happen lol. I called it! Don't rush the release, make sure it doesn't crash like crazy. I'm glad I waited.

Lots of issues, but you gotta crawl before you can walk. They can only emerge stronger from this. Dark Souls 1 to 2 is a big example of this in terms of PC flexibility.

Hopefully everything gets fixed in a timely fashion.

Folks, trying changing the .exe file in the Steam folder to XP Service Pack 3 (or whatever) compatibility mode. It helped me get pass the freezing. Note, I'm playing fullscreen.

Well, blown up, this section in particular makes a very compelling argument that your screenshot in particular is indeed native, at 1080p

So I'm guessing the fix is a much simpler 'figure out why the game is getting confused as to what resolution it should be rendering at' than getting custom resolutions to work in the first place.

edit: For comparison, the 1440p screenshot linked earlier in this thread, which is clearly being upscaled

Here's what mine looks like:

That's using the game's fullscreen setting and captured with Afterburner. You can even see the edge artifacts I mentioned previously in that screenshot.

EDIT: I think this is better, right? Honestly I can't tell anymore I've been staring at pixels too long.

In this image I manually set the config file (Neptune.ini) to 1600x900. It seems like it might still be getting used for fullscreen resolution in some way. I tried setting it to 1080 but it kept reverting itself.

Been running nicely on my i5/4600 integrated. Going with 1600x900 windowed for now. Only config issue is it does not recognize the right stick on my Logitech F510, so settled for shoulder buttons for L/R camera and numpad for U/D.

I looked at SteamDB before the game came out.
They had 3 testers total. And the game was pretty much on nonstop for the 28th and 29th.

I feel like when you take this game and distill it down to screenshot...yeah, it's looking kinda rough. I think I'm playing at 720 only, but ya know... I wasn't getting this game on PC for a graphical showpiece, I was getting it so I could actually play it since my PSTV doesn't. In that respect, I'm happy with it. I'm here for the moe, and gameplay ^_^

It sure as hell is LEAPS better than what I remember attempting to play of the original HN on PS3...god, the framerate was so terrible in that one, and the combat was so sluggish. At least this feels like it'll be a fun game so far, and it runs at such a nice framerate compared to what I remember.

I think it's incredibly interesting that this is OpenGL.

Mac/Linux versions incoming?

I think it has more to do with the Vita game being OpenGL, so they just took the easiest way to port it to PC.

I seriously doubt they'll make the effort to port it to Mac and Linux, specially seeing how they seem to have enough problems as it is with the PC version.

Probably not, but depending on what libraries they used for audio and i/o, porting a OpenGL game should be almost trivial.

What exactly are the Additional Content 1/2/3 packs? Worth getting with the game? I have trouble finding information about them.

Hmm.

I find when I play the game in fullscreen (1920x1080 or 1920x1200 depending on if I'm using my TV or monitor), the gameplay/3D sections for some reason fall to a locked 30fps, and there is a very high likelihood of the game of the crashing after battle.

But playing in windowed mode, the gameplay/3D sections play at a solid 60fps and and has so far been stable that way (no crashes).

Though I noticed that if I alt-tab out of the game while fullscreen in a gameplay/3D section, and then go back, the framerate suddenly jumps to a locked 60, and the game becomes seemingly stable, same as windowed mode. Weird.

(Windows 7, Core i5 760@3.5GHz, GTX 760, 8GB RAM)

EDIT: At some point the 30fps lock and instability both return while fullscreen. alt-tabbing fixes it again, but that's annoying to do repeatedly. Not sure about windowed mode.

Hmmm, I could have sworn you could click on their store page and scroll down a bit to see what they are?
Anyway, they're not necessary at all and exist purely if you want more combat or an easier way to get all Trophies/Achievements. Each pack increases the level cap by 300, and puts in a couple recycled dungeons and some new quests. Really, you should probably see how much you like the combat before you decide on them.

All of them say the same thing
With this DLC you will receive the following contents.

1. The main character's maximum level can now be increased by 300.
2. New Plans available within the game.
3. New quests and Coliseum battles will be added.

*To get the above the Coliseum must be available.
*Additional dungeons must be unlocked with Plans for the quest.
which doesn't really help. Basically, I'd like to know if it's content that's good to have from the beginning or if it's mostly post-game stuff.

It's this, although some you can do without being a high level. They are mainly extra battles in the Coliseum purely for challenge and more gameplay. The plans are to craft new equipment that would help with completing them.

They are definitely not needed.

So weird thing. Couple days ago the game page had you enter your birth date for Mature Content. But apparently now that's been removed(or so says SteamDB). What a weird thing to do, I really wonder what's going on behind the scenes.

Oh, sorry about that. In that case, it's all post-game stuff.
