whoa, Nep Nep is on fire. Almost at the top of bestsellers list.

Why?
Now Idea Factory will bring out all of its crappy titles to Steam.
Then people will buy them, try to play them and then figure out jRPGs are no fun.
And then they won't buy another one ever, even if Atlus, Gust or tri-Ace finally release something.

You take my word for it, Nep Nep just killed potential Resonance of Fate, Persona or Atelier Steam ports... :(
Arthea, is Nep Nep any good? Thinking about buying it. Honest opinion would be appreciated.

I think we need to have this talk, about Neptunia and Idea Factory in general, it's long overdue.

First let's talk Neptunia. The first one (not remaster released on steam) was awful, it truly was, but when I bought it, I didn't expect a great game, I bought it as silly and funny parody of gaming industry and it delivers as that. The gameplay was bad, tho, really bad. I still managed to finish it. Now this one, remaster has a good gameplay if we believe people that played both, so it's a win win situation, really. Unless you absolutely hate silly jokes, "gaming industry" and pretty girls there is no single reason to skip it. That's how I see it. Let's not forget that it's all girls party, what is huge plus in my book, as we don't get many games with only female characters unless of specific type I'm not talking here about.

Now let's get on Idea Factory topic. People hate their guts, or dismiss out of hand as moe shit makers. I sometimes wonder how many of them actually played a single Idea Factory game. The first game of Idea Factory I actively liked was Cross Edge. It's hard, unforgiving, it takes a lot of time to master that combat system, it looks like shit but I had so much fun with it, you not gonna believe. I spent 3 month straight playing it. I wouldn't go around recommending it to everybody to play, but I learned an important lesson of not dismissing dev outright because general public does so.
Agarest games aren't awful, or worst ever, I know that's how gamers talk, but it still irks me from time to time. These aren't great, true but in no way bad either, more like not very good, but have their moments :)

Idea Factory hit jackpot with Neptunia games tho, it's almost mainstream enough, unlike other their games that are usually too hard for most of gamers and perceived as niche, funny enough and memorable to stay. There are still a lot of people that won't give it a chance and I can understand that, but as I said, Idea Factory isn't that bad as urban legends state.

edited: just noticed that Nep Nep has 3 free dlcs and others are -50% discounted too.

Okay, thanks for that. Much appreciated even if I'm still ware of IF in general.
Will wait to see if the game is patched though.
Fool me once, TitS/XSEED, shame on you.
Fool me twice, FFXIII/Squeenix, shame on you.
Fool me thrice though...

Curious question as I'm writing up my Alone in the Dark: Illumination beta impressions, can you guys see these screens, or will I need to re-host them? It says they're private to all but me and admins on the Steam Page, so want to see if they're visible if I post them directly in a GAF topic.

Can you guys see these screens, or don't see anything?:

Are these opportunities found online or something? Would be all over it.

Yeah, though a lot of the bigger companies (MS, Bungie, Valve, WB) want you to be in driving distance of Seattle to do testing at their offices.

I'd suggest VGMarket for general stuff. It's led me to testing stuff for Amazon, nice compensation for almost no work.

I'll be your best friend if you can get me a Steam key for Arkham Asylum vanilla. ;)

What's the story with AA? Would it register as a unique title?

Life is Strange ep.1 was fairly short, but nice. Steam tells me I clocked in 2.1 hours and I missed two opportunities to do something. The choices felt already like making more of a difference than in TWD, because they weren't just four naught a second after. But it of course remains to be seen how much influence one really has. There are some choices that really could make a big difference.

The atmosphere is so nice, I love the music and the look of the game. Story is interesting to, although this episode was mainly build up to the things to come. I really looking forward to the next episode now.

Locked to 900p, people on Steam forums report a lot of random crashes, DLC are not unlocked for people who purchased them.
Also seemingly bad KB support and only X360 buttons for PAD players.
Yikes. Really worth the delay, eh.
Nep-Nep, why are you doing this to me?

Didn't they delay the release of NepNep because they wanted to fix some bugs they found right before release? Looks like there are other bugs they didn't find :(

Yeah, the original version and the GOTY Edition are different apps. The GFWL key redemption subs for Asylum and City were originally poised to include the vanilla versions, however the activation issues people had gave enough time for WB to change its mind. I've tried:

- Searching all the usual sites for a gift copy/Steam-friendly key
- E-mailing WB
- Asking AndyBNV (Nvidia rep here on GAF) if there were any spare keys left over from the 2009 promo
- E-mailing Rocksteady

...all to no avail. Arkham Asylum vanilla is the one and only Batman game on Steam I don't have. I own everything else, from City vanilla to Lego Batman 3.

I've seen quite a few 1080 screens, tho. It's weird, also 60 fps!, if I won't have crashing problem, I'd say it's a damn good port. I'm very afraid I will have crashes, because it seems to be not that rare occurrence and with my luck...
You can remap, at least that what I've read, that make kb support good. About controllers, so you mean like 99,99% of games? (><)

About Life is Strange:
What takes the most toll on the GPU, CPU, etc.? I tried altering the AA options but whenever there are a lot of people on screen, the FPS dips to 40-50, but when I left the classrooom at the start of the game, the FPS was able to stick to close 60 FPS.

The combination of watercolor into the models is nice but I feel like the game could've looked better.

Question about the LEGO Batman Trilogy.

This Trilogy shows like this for me on Steam:
so it's a duology. Should I buy it, would the first game magically appear in my Steam Library, or would I effectively be buying a duology peddled as a trilogy?

Yes.
Probably
I'm unstable and maybe going to the ER in the morning.

Sorry to hear, hope you get better.

Didn't you do the "vote this for a free key" thing?

Yes, I voted it, but I'd still pay for it, Gurumin is a super good game.

It's a duology here too, definitely a region thing, screw us europeans as usual :(

Yeah.
Still pisses me off and should be ridiculed at every occurrence.
Having only X360 button prompts is so 2010.
Dualshock means death of hands, you know?

fixed for accuracy
(not talking about DS4, haven't tried it yet)

Reading the last post in the nep thread, it seems like fullscreen is 1080p while windowed is 900p, or something.

yeah, it seems to be the case.
It's a pity as I like to run my games windowed, but I can live with full screen too.

Nep Nep doesn't have PS button prompts? Wait how is it possible a game previously only available in the playstation family not have PS button prompts?

Porting PS games to PC is a disaster waiting to happen. Ports literally losing features out of the gate

IMO, nobody sane uses DS controller given the choice, but you can ignore that. ;)

So this is what Marlamin said about yesterday's pic

It's not the Steam controller.

Big Picture has a configuration wizard where you can change keybinds for the Steam Controller.

It's highly likely that said wizard is getting support for normal controllers soon and that those images will be used for that. The Steam Beta update also contained images of the Steam Controller that look no different from the ones that were released a while back.
They added 37 images of that normal controller layout which are all prefixed binding_gamepad so I'd say that's a pretty safe bet. There were also 15 images of the Steam Controller highlighting the different buttons.

Krejlooc said it might be an early revision, but it wouldn't make sense to include that in a recent update, especially knowing the above (37 images of that named binding_gamepad).

So, people will be able to rebind any regular controllers through Steam?

can someone tell me how taxing is Nep Nep? my video card tends to overheat on very power hungry games (for example FF13 is OK, while Talos Principle and Transistor is no go). It's seems the problem lies with openGL games only and Nep Nep seems to be one of those.
