Game Informer March Cover: Rise of the Tomb Raider

I Wanna Be The Guy

U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!
You're not wrong there, but they need to focus more on exploration and some real puzzles. None of those mickey mouse, grade school level puzzles that were in the reboot.
At he very least if they're going to have optional tombs again they should go all out with challenging puzzles there. I get that they want anyone to be able to enjoy the ride, but they could at least be a bit less safe with those optional challenges.

Was chatting with a friend of mine who's a developer (different studio) about this shit being cross-gen:

"I mean, if it wasn't showing before, it is CERTAINLY showing now. They showed shots of the 2013 TR and I saw the new shots. If it weren't for the snow, I don't think i'd have been able to tell the difference. And do you know how much it slows down development? All of your assets need to have two console LOD versions. It doubles the amount of bug fixing each asset might potentially require. If I were MS, i'd have paid to shit-can the 360 version."
Blegh.

no confidence Xbox One version will sell consoles. it'll probably sell way more on 360 anyway.

No way. The only region in which last gen software is still doing better is Japan, and they won't be giving a shit about this game. Gen 7 software has well and truly tanked everywhere else, and it's going to be even worse in eight months' time. It just seems like a wasted effort at this stage.

Yup, I actually don't mind if the tombs and the puzzles are optional, but they have to be there this time.

I forgave it in the reboot as they were just finding their footing with taking the series in a new direction, they don't have that excuse any more. It's time to bring back some of the most appealing elements of the series. Make them optional and have them ramp up in difficulty with each one you find, but please, don't go the same route as the reboot where the 'puzzles' are just laughable and the tombs are just one room.

Damn, that's a bad ass cover. Xbox One owners are lucky as fuck to get a crack at this one.

This is a pipe dream and you know it.

May be they are afraid that XB1 version wont sell enough.

Well, they should've known about that before they signed the deal. DE sold like twice as much on PS4, TR is normally seen as a PS game, and TR isn't the type of game the Xbox audiance gravitates to, and UC4 is coming out, apperently, around the same time frame.... Yea, good luck SE.

As for the game, maybe this time it won't be entirely forgettable. If I can come out of it remember at least one thing from it, it'll be an improvement. Fun gameplay sure, a nice little rental, but everything else was pretty mediocre (Story and characters). With it on 360, the visuals will probably also not be as great as they could be. And with it being only on X1 we may not be able to play this in 1080 for a few months.

I'll wait a few months for the PS4 release, if it doesn't happen within 6 months I'll pick it up on the cheap for X1

Good chance this will be 1080p on XB1 since TR:DE was even before GPU reserve was available. New SDK updates too.

Disappointing that it's crossgen, thank goodness Uncharted ain't doing that.

I might gamefly the PS4 version whenever that shows up.

I'm so hype for this game as TR2013 is one of my favourite games, but I just can't bring myself to buy it until it's no longer platform exclusive, even though I have an X1. Going to keep up with coverage though as it looks amazing.

Will Laras face look different again on the PS4 version?

Then we would have like... 3-4 different faces.

Depends on which edition you pre-order and where and when and also if you paid your taxes and if any stars are aligned. Basically it works like Evolve or Watch_Dogs.

This is going to be a very long wait for me to get the PS4 version. I loved Tomb Raider, this one is looking to be great as well.

I'm of the same opinion, I am curios to see how it fairs when it comes out on other platforms. Will there be any push to remind PS players or will it just plop out ala PvZ:GW with nary a signal and just fizzle.

I'm guessing the reason SE went down this route is because they saw UC4 eating some of the PS sales from RotTR
