New Nintendo 3DS & New Nintendo 3DS XL Launch Thread

Target was sold out within an hour of all N3ds XL. TRU was sold out within 15 min. Was able to snag one at Best Buy when they opened. I got there about 5 min early. Best Buy had 5 blacks and 2 reds, no specials. Kinda bummed but at least I got one.

Came home and noticed this:
http://www.target.com/p/nintendo-ne...938&afid=Troposphere+LLC&ref=tgt_adv_xasd0002

Was able to snag one. As of 10:29 EST, they are still available! GOGOGOGOGOGOGO!

I give it 10 min before that's gone

Does the new 3ds XL (USA) come with screen protector preinstalled from the factory? Or is my unit defective? My touch screen is bumpy and not smooth at all

Yeah, the store isn't actually run by Nintendo. It's run by a company called The Hut who have a few online retailers. They tend to get all the special/limited edition versions of games as well.

I got my N3DS from there(a day early!) and got a giant ass Mario statue in the bundle. It can hold the 3DS in his hands.

That is pretty awesome.

I wish Nintendo would get its shit together in the US.

Errr I'm trying to move files from my computer to my new 32GB microSD card but it won't let me. Says the disk is write-protected. Thing is, it's not locked and I've tried it with the lock in both positions and neither mode works.

Do I have to format it to make the write protection go away?

edit: nevermind, seems to work now. Had to give it an extra push and now it works ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

looking at the comparison pics... are the face buttons different from XL to nXL? Think nXL are a bit bigger and spread out a bit more.

Cool: the setup process now prompts you for a system transfer, saving some extra steps to initiate this after setup.

Not cool: the system requires a system update out of the box, booting you to the home screen anyway, forcing you to manually update and initiate the transfer.

My morning trip to Best Buy was not in vain!

I don't understand, are they releasing NEW 3DS versions of games? Like is there a Monster Hunter 4 New 3ds version or do I just buy the regular 3ds version? If so, whats the point of the extra processing power? I can't find this info anywhere but am somewhat limited at work.

Got a red n3DS XL as I have given up the hunt on the MM one. It's just a thing anyway, I can live without it, even if Zelda is my absolute favourite... thing.

Anywho, the passing of the torch. Over ten years of doing this. Anyone else?

Well, I ordered a Majora's Mask 3DSXL from Target this morning. Will see if they cancel on me. Now I gotta sell this old one

Well, silly me for thinking I could walk into a GameStop and buy this without a reserve. Oh well, hopefully they get more but none are in transit.

You just buy the regular version, games made specifically for the new 3DS will have the branding at the top vs. the right side. The first game to take advantage of the new hardware will be Xenoblade.

So, the new 3D screens have not eliminated the "ripples" seen in 3D mode. It must just be due to the size of the screen making this hard to minimize. The OG system had this as well, but only barely noticeable and only at extreme close or far distance.

However, the "super stable 3D" does limit the ripples to being an effect of holding the system too far or too close. Side to side movement or slight jiggling (button presses) no longer cause the dark ripples. So now, instead of having to lock your arms at a certain distance and angle, you only have to lock at a certain distance.

Going to pick mine up, hopefully, after work. How are people finding the c-stick?

I was surprised that it doesn't move at all. It seems like it might work fine for camera movement, but it's not something you'd ever want to use for something like a twin stick shooter.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I'm assuming that none of the retailers have any new accessories for the N3DSXL such as cases, screen protectors, etc?

I am receiving screen protectors from amazon today, however with the Hori case delay I was hoping to find a case for my daughters system to ensure it doesn't get scratched/damaged due to her timely uncoordination with electronics =P. I know I could get a pouch for travel/storage, but mainly looking for something to protect it all the time.

After using this for about an hour, I kinda wish they brought the smaller n3DS to the US. This thing is just uncomfortable.

you will get used to it.

Felt the same with the xl when I first got it. Felt the same about my iphone 6+ when I first got it.

Both the targets on my way home are sold out, and both toys r us as well. Best buy showed that they had stock but no one would answer when I called. I tried ordering online but the website wouldn't accept my password and I'm still waiting for them to reset it. Finally managed to get through after checking out as a guest, and received confirmation that my order was in stock and ready to be picked up. I'm cautiously optimistic as this point, but man in having to jump through hoops to get this system.

Chargers are branded with a "new" on them now so...that's something.

Got in line this morning and was 2nd. The guy in 1st said they had 1 copy so I should go to another location that has 5. Thankfully I didn't listen because they had 2! And thanks to the person who believed him that was originally in 2nd that went to the other location prior to me arriving. Yay!!

2 Zelda editions and 3 of the other 2 for a total of 8. Crazy

According to: 3dbrew.org, these are the significant changes I can see:

ARM11 Processor Core: ARM11 MPCore 4x 268MHz(~268123480 Hz) & 4x VFPv2 Co-Processor (versus 2x & 2x in the OG 3DS)
FCRAM: 256MB (vs 2x64MB in the OG 3DS)
VRAM: 6 MB within SoC. Independent of system memory (FCRAM). 4MB of additional memory inside SoC. (vs. just the 6 MB within SoC in the OG 3DS).

Thanks for the replies. I guess I just kind of find it odd that a system was released without any games. Its like if the PS4 just upscaled PS3 games when it first launched. Not knocking the system, i'm stoked to play MH and MM but it just seems strange.

I have an OG 3DS and have found it very uncomfortable to play with. I really want to play MH4U, but the demo on my current 3DS was a miserable experience. Is the XL a lot more comfortable for people with larger hands?

Same here, paid for the quicker delivery and was expected to arrive today.

Pretty annoying.

Paid for faster delivery on Amazon France as well, order is also stuck in Germany! Hoping it'll come tomorrow - otherwise I'll be asking for a delivery refund.

Picked one up at Walmart around midnight. Had about 5 in stock around 11:30 lol. Now I have to fight for customer service to transfer my content since I sold my 3DS a while ago.

The system reportedly does improve some aspects of newer games. Majora's Mask has c-stick camera control only available on the N3DS and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate has better shadows and textures.

Wow okay I just got my second 4U LE.

Couple things:

First of all there's no room for wobble so there's no left/right wobble as described here.
Secondly the snap mechanism sounds entirely different. It's like this silent thunk, while on the other one (and on my old XL) it's a very distinct clicking noise.
And finally there's also less up and down wobble but not by much. My old XL had the most of that.

I assume all three differences are related to the wiggle room between the hinges.

Also one question: if I format the system memory, will it mess with the pre-installed MH4U?
