New Nintendo 3DS & New Nintendo 3DS XL Launch Thread

I tried doing the same. Supposedly they are putting people on a waiting list on my store and still allowing trade ins for the $100 deal. I might just do that and call nintendo later to allow me to transfer my nintendo id.

I'd be fine with a waiting list, none of the seven stores i called offered. I asked all of them what they could do for me to honor this promotion and they all gave the same answer "just keep checking back"

at this point i dont even care about data transfer because all my stuff is physical, no DLC. I would be fine with trading in my system and then waiting for a new one.

A word of warning for anybody trading in a 3DS in Game (UK), my local one refused to let me do a system transfer because it took too long and told me that I'd have to phone Nintendo to transfer my stuff.

If it wasn't for the thought of the two heartbroken kiddies at home I would have had no issues with telling him to stick the new console right up his ass. 25 minutes later I finally got him to agree to let us do it.

It took ages to download the update my the transfer was really quick. As I was doing it another couple of groups of people came in and asked if they could do the same, both times he looked at me then said yes so there was three of us doing this at one point. One of the other people did wonder how many people had done the transfer in store that day and I told them I was pretty sure that it was only three of us.

I have no issues at all with Nintendo not including a mains adapter as we have a couple of USB leads that we use so it's pointless them including one in the box with us. The issue is that if you try to trade in a 3DS in Game they charge you £5 to buy a store brand charger. I'm not talking about the console you're buying, I'm talking about them charging you £5 for the console that your giving to them.

I did point out that it said on the box of the 3DS that it didn't include a mains adapter and I also tried charging him £5 for the new 3DS but he was having none of it. I have no issues at all with not having a mains charger with the new 3DS but I certainly have issues with Game charging people £5 because Nintendo didn't give one with the console they're trading in. I even put the old 4GB memory card that came with the old 3DS in the box knowing that I didn't have to but it was included with it so I felt it was fair to let them have it.

As I said, if it wasn't for the kids at home I would never have handed over my money to them. I would have no issues with the 90 minutes it took to get everything sorted if it had been me doing the transfer but he was an arrogant little bastard from start to finish.

On the bright side, I am friends with the bloke who runs the shop so I'll let him know after and I think I'm going to let their head office know too.

2 guys were so pissed a girl at target because she got there before them. They sprinted to the cashier in front of her but the cashier had seen her waiting first so helped her first. The rage was real. Get over it Bros.

That's nice to hear. Kudos to that cashier for doing the right thing.

Best Buy wouldn't let me order one for in store pick up all week. I checked today and I could. Ordered a black unit and Zelda and got the email to pick up today. Nice.

Wow. While I didn't trade in my old 3DS, in the Netherlands they let you do it at home and you have to come back within a week to give them your old 3DS and they will pay you the difference. All they do is write down the serial number of the old 3DS.

Aiii

So not worth it
Had the N3DS Ambassador's Edition for a month now, but finally I could get the wood cover plate with the release today, yay.

Figured I'd share my launch day story in here. I just had a pretty hilarious experience at the downtown Toronto Futureshop (FS is like Best Buy in Canada).:

I got there about 20 minutes before opening to get a New 3DS. By the time the store opened there was 15-18 people. About 10 in front of me and 5-7 behind me.

So we get in line and the first guy asks if they have any Gold Majora's Mask 3DS units. The guy says "Sorry, just Red and Black."

EVERYONE in front of me immediately turns around and walks out, and everyone behind me except for one other guy leaves too. So I was first in line and happily got a red unit.

I can just picture all of those people being on a wild goose chase all day. Good luck I guess but I doubt anyone is going to find any off the shelf units.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I just kind of find it odd that a system was released without any games. Its like if the PS4 just upscaled PS3 games when it first launched. Not knocking the system, i'm stoked to play MH and MM but it just seems strange.

Monster Hunter 4, some Sega 3D games, and Majora's Mask?

In what world is that no games? Thats' the best lineup I've seen in a long time. Who cares if they do not have 'exclusive' features (they do) to the hardware.

wait - which 3DS were you trading in? One that originally came with a charger, or one that didn't? (Think the XL didn't come with one). If they originally didn't have chargers, GAME can't require you to supply one - if they did it sounds like he was trying it on.

Likewise, surely you *do* have to include the 4GB card as that was in the original sales box?

Also, did you do the 'special offer' trade in, or did you price match against a CEX? Although their prices have dropped recently that should still be better than the GAME offer.

I hope my new 3DS comes soon (probably tomorrow now) - going to trade my XL in at GAME for CEX price +£1 and if they try and make me pay for a charger I'll enjoy making a scene because they can fuck right off.

My God that's shitty. They charge you for an adapter that didn't even come with the original system? Here in Denmark all they (GameStop) want is the system (and the SD card). They don't want the box or adapter

Well, fuck.

I was transferring from my 3DS XL to N3DS XL but I got an error when it was at the Nintendo eShop part...

Then both the 3DS XL and N3DS XL restarted. The 3DS XL now has the first setup and none of my data on the system, and the N3DS XL has nothing from my old 3DS XL on it.

I can't restart the system transfer process either, because on the N3DS XL it says I have to wait 7 days before I can try again ...

So I'm copying and pasting the data from my SD card onto a PC then going to paste it onto the MicroSD card and try to restart the N3DS XL with the hope that that resolves it.

Otherwise, I'm going to have to call Nintendo and see what to do ...

Got a red one at Best Buy this morning. Was the only person waiting outside for one. Went back to the games section and they didn't even have them out yet. Had an employee grab me one from the back room. Just out of curiosity I asked how many they had. He told me just 3 of the red ones. Went to Target to run amother errand and they were sold out of all theirs by 11am. Hope everyone is able to get theirs today!

from GAME's website for their trade-in offer

Trade in must be completed within 7 days of purchase. To Trade-In; all consoles must be in good working order and of satisfactory quality with relevant charging cables and vital accessories

So you could have taken the new 3DS home to do the transfer and then come back within a week to get a refund of the difference. And 'relevant' cables clearly suggests to me that you include only what was originally there.

Try going to the eShop on the n3DS. Does it have a download history?

Just heard back from Nintendo support. Apparently I'll have access to my digital games next Tuesday or Wednesday. I wish I didn't enjoy their games so much. They're such a backwards bunch of clowns.

Nope -- I just tried to put my data onto the MicroSD and restart the N3DS but that didn't work, no history in the eShop.

Very, very happy to have avoided any hassle with my n3DS pickup. Went in to Target to find they had exactly one n3DS left in stock. With nobody waiting in line for it, I was out the door in ten minutes.

Hopefully nobody got hurt this morning making a pickup (but I know that's wishful thinking).

Just got back from picking up my order at Best Buy. They had no units left over of any color. Since Bestbuy.com still hasn't shipped my order for the black XL, I'm just going to return it whenever they decide to finally ship it.

I'm going through the transfer process right now. A little nervous about my save data though...

Best Buy wouldn't let me order one for in store pick up all week. I checked today and I could. Ordered a black unit and Zelda and got the email to pick up today. Nice.
Think they put them up for store pick up sometime yesterday, I was like you trying for that option earlier in the week. Got the email for pickup so hopefully everyone already got theirs or are getting it soon.

It was a red 3DS XL and it didn't have a charger, as I said I even showed him that it said that on the box. We've never owned a charger for it. Because I didn't believe him he even showed me the comms to prove that it was genuine.

They didn't expect the original SD card, if it wasn't for me making a point about including it because I felt it was the right thing to do they wouldn't have got it. It's only 4GB so I really hope that whoever buys that 3DS actually gets the card with it.

We had to use Game as we had money on the card to go towards it.

Yep, at it's most basic I paid an extra £5 for a charger that I had to hand back in with the trade. Mo issues at all with Nintendo not giving them away, I'm actually glad they do but as I said I do have issues with being charged by Game because Nintendo don't supply them.

If it had been for me or if it was a surprise I would have just walked out but I had to grit my teeth as it was expected at home and I had no other way of getting one today.

Target turned out to be useless for any sort of New 3DS since they "sold out within 5 minutes", but a nearby Best Buy may work out better. I've tried their "order online, pick up at store" method and will see if it works as advertised on my way home.

So. I'm just about ready to go into the process of transferring my 3DS XL stuff to my N3DS XL. I'm going with a bigger memory card and it's also going to have Majora's Mask pre-installed.

I'm referring to the GAF Guide on the Google Doc. It says that I should move all my existing data to the MicroSD I want to use, do the transfer with that card and then simply use that MicroSD with my new system. Nintendo's website however, mentions this -

Do not swap between multiple SD Cards, or swap your SD Card between multiple systems. Use one SD Card with one system and be sure to follow the steps below if transferring content to a new SD Card.
Do not use save data from an old card after transferring.

Do I have to worry about that or are they full of it?

Guess I was crazy for thinking I could walk into a store today and pick up a N3DS. Guess Ill just be playing the peasant editions of MM3D and MH4U for a while.

You can use GAME, but you can get them to price match CEX's trade in price plus £1 - which for a boxed red XL is £83, so GAME should give you £84 trade in for it.

Their current offer is £79.99 for a new 3DS when you trade in an XL, effectively making the XL worth £69.99. So by price matching CEX you force GAME to give you another £14 on top.

You've copied the contents from your old SD card to your new 32GB Micro SD card, put it in an adapter and put it in the old 3DS, correct? As long as the original SD card is in the new3DSXL you're good to do the transfer. When it's done take the 32GB micro SD and put it in the new3DSXL. You can then redownload MM3D

Hope it makes sense

Ended up getting 2 majora mask 3ds. While waiting in line at target I wasn't sure I was gonna get one so I placed an order on target.com to be safe. successfull morning!!

I'm so happy. I officially have my own 3DS again!
I was given a loaner/hand-me-down XL because I broke mine by drowning it in a puddle. The person who gave me it impulse bought a new 3ds and said I could keep the old one. He just wants to do a system transfer first. Apparently I have to call Nintendo to transfer from my dead one right.

So happy!

I still want the new shiny one....

Can I ask if people in the UK are getting cards with a PIN in the box to register their consoles? Just noticed I didn't get one but I'm not sure if we're supposed to anymore.
