It totally understand you.
But in my honest opinion, these people have a problem with the entire genre then (if it doesn't have a online-multiplayer), because these kind of games have that lenght (of 6 - 10 hours). It's the normal lenght.
So it seems like they have to play RPG's or multiplayer games forever.

For example, I love God of War series, they are short games, but I'm always getting back to them from time to time, because even if I already know the story, they are fun. And I can say that about a lot of other games. Like Jak & Daxter. Even Sonic Adventure.

It's easy to come back to games that are fun or you remember you had good time with.

But story-focused games brings one problem. They need a good balance between fun and story. If you focus too much on the story that the players play for the story and not for the fun, you may quit once you know the story and never come back.

So, we can say there two types of 6 hours games. Lets hope The Order have a gameplay worth replaying.

Would it work? Does the game output the aspect ratio, or is it outputting 1080p with bars?

i dont think the PS4 can actually output 21:9 res, it would probably look awful lol.

but if the game res is 1920x800 it should mean no black bars right? i dunno

It's been discussed, apparently it would still output 1080p and you'd end up with larger black bars on the horizontal and new black bars on the vertical. So it's not a solution.

I couldn't stay away but I probably should have. People are now basing impressions on low quality letsplays and the idea that a top quality game isn't worth the money if it isn't long enough is showing its head. It's never that long until the order threads stop being about the game and its actual intentions and become about what it is supposed to be.

I come to this thread to read impressions of gaffers who actually played the game and not watch some YouTube vids only to find debates about the game's length. Sigh.

Anyone got a link to the posts? Rather not wade through all this mess.

See my post near the end of the last page.

For everyone looking for GAF impressions amidst all these OT youtube vid posts here you go:

Now that we've got a thread specifically about the length of the game, hopefully this'll be a safer place for people who've played it to share impressions.

I've seen a few mentions of "platforming" which I did not expect at all. Really curious to see what that's all about.

If this game had an incredible story I think being about 6 hours+ would have been ok. But if it doesn't, that kinda makes the entire thing pointless imo, and ruins everything RAD was going for

So what was the weakness of the story since you have played the whole thing.

I'm reading in this thread that there are no unlockables for finishing the game or collecting stuff. Is this true? 'cause I'm ok with a cinematic experience, game length and stuff like that, but I like those "gamey" things. No alt costumes? special modes? donut skins?

What? Of course I haven't played it. From early impressions people have been saying that the story is "ok" or some of the characters aren't that interesting. If people out of the gate had said "wow the story though" then that would have been better

I have read 6 impressions now (4 on GAF and 2 others) and the fastest one finished the game after 9 hours. The rest was between 10 and 12 hours.
But of course it's a 5 hours game now, because someone "rushed" (e.g. not taking care for collectibles and "sprinting" through silent, atmospheric areas) the game on medium difficulty...

All I've gotten from early impressions is that the plot and characters are quite good aside from some pacing and exposition issues with a somewhat prolonged intro/first act.

Nice OP, thanks for the impressions.

I shall be buying on Friday (Game UK are doing it for half price, so £25 if you trade in Far Cry 4 or Dragon Age Inquisition, both of which I'm done with). Personally, this has had me hooked from the very first reveal.

And I couldn't care less about a purported 5-6 hour campaign length. Who gives a fuck. Given that I always take my time looking at everything and admiring visuals if they're even a little bit fancy, I don't expect to be done in anything like that time.

Its a fallacy to equate game length with some notional concept of 'value'. If this is a solid experience that stays with me once complete, then I will consider it money well spent. I'm part of that (apparently dying) breed of gamer who does not see shoehorned MP or 50 hours of identikit collecting as something of worth. Give me a solid single player experience that I can spend time in absorbing the world and the lore and the story and I'm happy.

Roll on Friday.

OK, so as I said I was at the preview event today. Unfortunately we were told that we could not share anything of what we saw till the embargo lifts except our interview with Pessino (for which I'll have to go back in the afternoon).

They even told us to refrain from posting our opinions on social media until the embargo date and to not mention the recent leaks (youtube vids, streams etc...).

There was something in the presentation that Passino said I am dying to share but I can't...

I have to be back there in about an hour and a half for the interview (which is fortunately not embargoed).

All I can say for now is that I agree with the opinions previously shared here by the people that have the full game.

Sony is trying really hard to control what comes out and in what way. They seemed very upset about the broken street date, as well as the information that hit the web before the embargo was up. Having said that, I believe they are right. This was a game that would immensely benefit from hype build-up, I am sure the people who got it already agree with me.

Oh, so a "normal" through is hunting for collectibles and playing on hard?

The person didn't rush through and I know this since I watched a few of the videos myself and the majority of people probably don't care about collectibles.

I can't imagine there would be many GAFers out there who would intentionally completely ignore every single collectible, viewable or readable item within the game, even if the button prompt came up right in-front of them. Like wise with not looking around or exploring even a little bit.

Why would have they... if an area is meant to be done with stealth, as any other game, if you're caught you need to restart...
Not at all, like for example in TLoU (or any other stealth/multi-genre game) if you get caught all the enemies get alerted and you have to fight them all together or try to evade. If they are not alerted, you can pick them off one by one. All stealth games give you some leeway in salvaging the situation if you get caught. This aspect was disliked by many people who thought it felt out of place in the game otherwise.

Ofcourse. Looking around, collecting some stuff and always on hard.
You're a Gaffer.
Most people will probably play on normal and won't collect shit.
I'm a gaffer and I don't collect shit :) . Eg uc games or tlou's pendants in like oh cool 50 more left I don't care . I do read up on story related collectible at times tho depends on the strength of the story

I do soak up the atmosphere and graphics at times but it has to be something awesome eg riverside after pittsburg. Some amazing skyboxes etc.

Just assuming everyone wants to play things a certain segment do it not being true to the general populace (even actual gaf populace)

And this is coming from someone who doesn't really have that many qualms if the game is roughly 5.5 6 hours if that long is good enough I'll enjoy it . However I am ready to realize that's what my playtime would be like because I play like that YouTube person .

Second no frills play through, hard difficulty camera bias on aim assist off. My first play through as I stated I spent the vast majority of it just looking at things and trying to see what I could and could not do.

Second play through time is just over 8 hours which includes an unspecified amount of time where I had to put my kids to bed and argue with my wife about hogging up the big TV during the walking dead.

8-10 hours is perfect. I play a few hours a night and that will take about 3-4 days.

I'm a huge single player story gamer though.

Can't wait!

All the negativity that always shows up in Sony Exclusive threads are here, not that I discount people's opinions I just don't mind a small well paced story. I loved wolfenstein:TNO but felt it was a few hours too long.

you could ask him in the interview to say what he said in the morning - that way you can tell us :)

It seems to me that through the history of this forum we always have a lot of concerned posts over total playtime concerning every game that comes out. For all the deep concerns though have we ever actually had a game come out that was deemed a terrible value based on length? I can't think of one game I have played and thought - WTF! Thats it!! Only BLANK hours!!!

I've been here like 7 years and you are right on..This is just typical pre-release drama.

I'm a pathetic excuse of a Gaffer!

I play a lot of games on easy.

So you are not gaming for self-abasement but to enjoy and relax? What are you even doing here??? IT'S A GAME: IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE FUN!

I am weak too. Hard mode is not for me.

OT: I am looking forward to the Order but I am not convinced enough for a preorder. I am going to wait for more reviews. 10 hours length is no problem for me but I have moved away from preorders and early access things :) (NOt that The Order is early access).

Sony is completely at fault for this they can be mad about the street date being broken all they want. It happens all the time and they know that. It is their fault for being so secretive about this game. They had a chance to control the narrative but decided to be ultra secretive about this game. So to no surprise to anyone once this got leaked people were ultra interested because of how secretive Sony was over this game. If they would of showed more of the game leading up to the leak it would of been no big deal. Instead now they have a self created monster on their hands by letting youtube videos be the first real look at the game. I have been saying for a long time Sony treating this game like a classified state secret was a major mistake.
