So basically you're never going to support these releases. Cool!

I get that people like dubbing but it's never going to happen.

It's the reason to buy them. I'll keep watching any legal streams they put up and I don't pirate content.

I just keep hoping someone like Netflix will decide there is a market for it and make a widesweeping English language deal with them. I love some of the old dubs (especially G Gundam) but there's no doubt at all that the whole series could use a bit of respect and some nice modern dubs.

The reason to get them is that these are amazing shows getting released in this country for the first time. Hard to argue there's a market for it when people won't support the releases that do get put out.

I don't buy anime that's not dubbed and never will. The fact that I'd even consider making an exception for Build Fighters is something. They want a hundred bucks for the entire series and don't even bother to dub it? Nope. If someone puts it up on a streaming service I subscribe to I'd watch it again but spend a hundred on it? Got to be joking.

I own every dubbed Gundam release in the US up to Gundam SEED Destiny. Never bought Gundam 00 because it sucks.

Rightstuff got it for $33.49

Holy shit, I thought it was canned.

Sooo happy.

Right Stuf is the licensor/distributor. They announced a deal with Sunrise last year to get Gundam out on physical media here, including ZZ and Turn A.

And the no dub thing is tough. Gundam doesn't sell enough to justify recording a dub, but then you've got people refusing to buy it unless it has a dub. No wonder Gundam is fucked here.

It doesn't sell enough is a lame ass excuse. It doesn't sell what Sunrise thinks it should, because they're delusional about how popular Gundam is in countries that aren't Japan.

It was almost a curse that Wing did so well that they thought any Gundam property would do amazing over here.

It's kinda crazy to expect them to dub these super old shows. Even new series don't seem to sell very well here, it's weird that they're even releasing Turn A and ZZ at all because of how obscure they are to this market. I think that's worth supporting. Fuck a dub.

I totally agree with you. Sunrise is delusional about Gundam in North America. Too bad it's their property and dictate licensing fees. We're also screwed with sharing the same Blu-Ray region as Japan. Italy has 0079 on Blu-ray, and it's reasonably priced.

Gundam is the only anime property I'm interested in anymore, and I will support whatever we get here.

That's why someone like Netflix is pretty much the only hope, someone who isn't scared making a big multinational deal and has seemingly bottomless pockets. I don't realistically think it'll happen.

Netflix wasn't up for releasing Knights of Sidonia on DVD/Blu-Ray here, though. Sentai ended up doing that.

Streaming is nice, but my end goal is to have Gundam on physical media in North America.

Getting the dubs made means that whomever wants to put them on disc has the option of getting the dub on there and time and again it has been proven that dubbed anime sells better than sub only anime.

Sad as it is to say I don't think we'll see a dubbed release of Gundam over here until Wing is remastered because they're not that stupid to not release Wing with its dub.

I hope Turn A and ZZ do well, paving the way for re-releases of G, Wing etc.

Apparently the plan is to get everything that's never been released here and then do the shows already seen here. Turn A, ZZ, Victory are priorities from what I've read.

It really sounds like a labor of love on Right Stuf's part. They know they're not gonna sell a ton of these, but know there is a small contingent of diehards that will pick it up.

Bums me out how little interest there is in mecha in modern North Ameican anime fandom.

Edit: I picked up a bunch of cheap AGE blu-Rays in Japan last year. Subs included.

They still have a window open if they dubbed Build Fighters and got it on TOONAMI. That show really is something special and could have resparked interest in the brand.

So what hasn't been released here? Turn A, ZZ, Victory, and AGE. Anything else?

Wing and G should be pretty high on their priority list for re-releases.

Also, has Wing been shown again on Toonami recently?

Nope. They've tried working something out but can't anymore because of how insane the rights issues are. They want Gundam on the block but won't air anything subbed. I think Wing might break through when it gets re-released.

That's what I was thinking. If they could get the re-release out there it would be beneficial to get it on TV again too.

Toonami showed:

Gundam Wing, Gundam Wing (Uncut), SD Gundam, Most of MSG, G Gundam, Gundam Seed.

Adult Swim Action showed: 08th MS Team, 0083, 0080 a War in the Pocket, Char's Counterattack.

I saw...most of that. Just missed out on CCA, Gundam Seed, which I knew about just didn't see it in its entirety till after after the stopped airing it and War in the Pocket, which I keep starting but never finishing. SD Gundam I started to watch at that point and then was like, "this isn't for me."

Y'all weren't kidding about about how gorgeous 08th is. Like, damn.
There's a battle towards the end that is fucking mind blowing. I'm looking at the Turn A preorder with my finger hovering over the buy button. And bought, since this is something we never expected to come here I'd figure I'd actually support this. I'd love Unicorn Blu Ray re releases at an affordable price of course.

Or you could, you know, support Gundam in North America with actual money...

Novel concept, I know.

But I do buy Origin manga, and own 00 and the movie to 00 [best] and a Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3.

Dont think I would blind buy Turn A without seeing it first.

Would definitely buy Wing BD whenever it comes, Build Fighters, Age, and will buy Origin BD.

But Turn A is better than Age and 00.
Why are her eyebrows so evil?
Because at that moment in the series she's a fucking lunatic.
So how many years late is this? 2? 3?

Also lets all remember that Japan already got blu-ray remasters of all the series.

All the ones that count anyway, so not Victory. Hah!
The world isn't ready for HD Katejina.

Trust us. Turn A is a masterpiece, especially compared to sit pieces like seed. Which means you would hate it.

I really think sharing the same Blu-ray region with Japan has screwed North America. Like I said earlier, Italy has a bunch of Gundam on Blu-ray.

All we've got is Unicorn and the 00 Movie.

Asked earlier but didn't get an answer.

Anyone know if Unicorn will get a rerelease on Bluray or should I just plop down the $250 or so for all 7 now? I do kinda like the Japanese packaging...
