What happens if you build two cargo train stations? Will trucks be able to move through twice as quickly? Or will it just create twice the backup?

Is there any mod to unlock all road and buildings from the start? I find the unlocking to be really inconvenient specially with roads.

Its already included in the game as a mod. You just need to turn it on.

A little time laps of my city so far from 8k > 20k > 45k > 65k

I really do need to fix that industrial area some time.

A double? Like, a double roundabout just generated out of one-way streets?

Yeah. One inside the other, going in opposite directions.

I actually stuck something on the Workshop to that effect, but it doesn't work with the starting roads because of a spacing issues.

Awww shit. There's an idea for a mod, an auto timelapse screencapper that you set a perspective once and every half hour or so it takes a pic from that angle.

I was doing great, had a population of about 3000 and then suddenly nobody had power. I have 2 power plants and they were out of fuel, but I don't know why or how to fix it. And I'm pretty much broke now, so I'll probably just have to start a new city and use what I've learned to not repeat the same mistakes. This one's layout was a mess anyways. I'm having a hard time planning how to lay roads and zones out without using a grid, and even then it's poorly planned.

It means import trucks couldn't get to the power plants efficiently and timed out before pathing there. Check your road connections to the outside world.

Yeah. One inside the other, going in opposite directions.

Could I get a visual example? Not entirely sure how it works.

This game is a time thief. Three days in a row it's kept me up well passed when I should be sleeping. Need lots of caffeine during the day to stay awake at work.

I'm taking my time and really spreading my city across all the different landmasses of the map I picked. I feel like I'm playing really slow compared to a lot of you! I'm only at 40k people after something like 14 hours. My city is more like 3 smaller cities connected by highway and metro systems. I unlocked trains but trying to fit it into an existing road system seems impossible... Kind of wish you started with them or at least unlocked them sooner. Right now I'm only using trains for cargo which actually seems to be saving a huge amount of truck traffic.

Am I correct in understanding that I only need 1 bus depot for the whole city? I've created routes on the other side of the map and other than the initial time it takes for the buses to go from the depot to the route they appear to stay on the route forever. The depot seems to have infinite buses. Not sure how it fits 60 buses in there... Must be a tight fit.

Oh yes, this! This so much!

It'd be so great to be able to have a neat timelapse of how the city grew.

Could I get a visual example? Not entirely sure how it works.

You set up the circles like this:

m3D9pOo.png

Then it's just a question of hooking them up to the outside world. For your starting roundabout, attaching it to the outermost ring works fine, but for residential/commercial districts, I've been toying around with having an overpass directly to the center, and a third ring around the outside.

forgive my stupidity poodle, but are those two-way links between the rings or one-ways?

2-ways; sorry, should have specified. That way, cars can transition between the rings at any of the junctions, which cuts down enormously on travel time.

The rings also have to be 2 lanes; or at least, I think they do. The 6 lanes insist on adding traffic lights.

So I have a question that I haven't had time to test yet, maybe someone on GAF will know the answer. I know people can't move in to your city if you completely cut it off from highway connection and such but can they move out? In other words if I get a nice sizable 30,000 person city or something and bulldoze all my roads that connect to the outside highways and my airport and my train stations and shipping lines, can I turn my city into a dystopian hellscape with maximum taxes and minimum services and they wont be able to do anything about it?

The strange tale of a Cities: Skylines town with only one house

Click on the arrows to continue reading (there's a bit of the story update on every image). I thought the concept of the one house city was pretty cool! I wanna try to do something similar but just trying to get a small little town and see how the people interact with each other.

well that was an entertaining read! thanks for sharing.

Finally, some sort of fix for the terrible antialiasing. Mmmmmm, Supersampling mod.

Dynamic Resolution

I get like 25 fps on at the max resolution ( >4k ) on a 780ti, but boy is it purdy.

Doesn't 100% fix aliasing, but still way, way better than running at native res. The in-game AA really doesn't make any appreciable improvement on the jaggies from what I could tell, so until someone figures out (or CO patches in) some better AA filters, this seems like the best option for those that can run it.

They can just hoof it.

Abandonment does not require the residents to physically leave the place I think.

Thanks poodle, I'll check it out on my third city in three days tonight \o/

this doesn't have a random map generator hidden somewhere does it

Lots of misinformation in that...maybe they started recording the video 15 minutes after he started trying it?
so it's up to par for GB then

i love those guys, but they are not an information source so much as they are an idea of what someone who hasn't really looked into something will encounter when they boot something up

yeah some games deserve a little research for a QL
I don't like when they just jump in and expect good results
I know they just got back from PAX but it is weird seeming them fail like this

just peeked at Boogie's stream above and he was doing his whiny voice
"I JUST PLACED THE SPINNY THING RIGHT NEXT TO YOU! I DON'T KNOW HOW ELECTRICITY WORKS!" - shuts tab

yeah right now I am looking for a stream or video of a city that has 100k plus to see how the game gets when a city get huge

hhhmmm

Commercial buildings keep getting abandoned because no goods to sell, factories can't get raw materials or sell their goods.

I don't seem to have a particularly bad traffic problem, there are some busy areas, but no significant back ups.

I did have a heavy traffic ban in my downtown area, which I believe initially started the issue, but I removed the ban.

Heavy traffic ban does not affect the delivery trucks, only the semis.

Not sure why it's abandoning. Maybe try to follow a van to see where they go?

In a rush to dick around, I created a gigantic dam.
Destroyed it, sped time up, let the swell grow, built a dam on that, deleted, let it grow, rinse repeat and realized I could create enormous never ending tsunamis.

Of course this obliterates your town but still.
All in good fun.
Just makes me want real disasters for kicks.

Now do all that but build so much sewage output that the entire river is a polluted mess when you do the tsunami attacks.

I almost nuked my city. That was really bad. Didn't save (well, what could possibly go wrong, right?) and pushed my taxes up to 29% for 2 days to build something. Worst decision ever. Population went down from 60k to under 10k. Took a realtime hour to get back on 45k and another one to get out of my over 3.5 mio debt.

Do Ore/Oil deposits eventually dry up? This used to be a pure blue ore specialization, now it almost looks like fertile land.

Industry seems to have sprung back after I turned off the heavy traffic ban. I was following some of the big trucks. Some seemed to be going to businesses, and the rest to my other industrial area across town.

everyone is sick and there are 3 hospitals for 2500 people. people are dying

what do i do o________o

Are you pumping up sewage into the water supply? Do you have industry in the middle of your neighbourhoods? Are you incinerating garbage next to some houses?

Chuck

Still without luck

Are you sure you don't have your sewage going where your water pump is located?

i guess some industry is next to this residential block, but the whole city is sick. :/

and no, water pumps are fine

I think that if you have a part of the residential area getting sick, they begin infecting other parts too, but I'm not sure :/

What are good ways to get industrial buildings to level up? And I noticed the specialized industrial buildings don't have the bar to how leveled they are, can those level up or can only the non specialized industries level up.
