Nintendo teases. Masks for Zelda WiiU? Another Majora style game? What could this be?

Grezzo did not build any Zelda engine.
I'm sure Grezzo didn't use the same engine that OoT used...well, I dont' see why they would at least.
But yeah, either way I wouldn't say that they spent "ages" on it. It's the same engine from OoT 3D which was basically a launch title for the 3DS

It is the same engine. Just updated.

Miiting?

Jesus christ that's terrible. They deserve last place

on topic, I dunno how i'd feel about a MM 2 or something. That game is in its own brilliant little bubble

I can see the HMS and a few masks appearing in Zelda U in the same fashion they did in OoT. Can't imagine masks ever being a main gameplay mechanic again like in MM though.

I always thought the game would have time of day based sidequest because of the clock in this screenshot. But it's interesting to think that the Happy Masked Salesman might be involved. It hints at the possibility of some connections with Majora's Mask style gameplay or a direct connection to the game itself.

You can be certain that just based on that clock, Zelda WiiU will have NPCs with schedules just like Majora's Mask. I'll eat my pants if that doesn't happen.

As long as it's not like *new* super mario bros ;_;

I don't want octoroks to go 'wah wah'

I believe the *new* Zelda was ALBW.

Since it's going to be a new(!) Zelda(!) game, I'm confident it's not HW.
So my money is on Zelda U, either as a vendor or a side-quest giver.
No MM2, no MMHD, no Majora in ZU, or any of that madness.

I caught this over at gonintendo . I'm just going to post the last message.

Nintendo spent three years teasing Majora's Mask, and now here they are, teasing more masks for a new game. Could they be teasing a new potential Majora's style game? Or maybe they are adding select masks (and NPCs with schedules) for Zelda WiiU? Maybe they just want to get a reaction from people to see the direction they are going to take in the future?

Nintendo is notorious for dropping hints, specially the last few years. I really doubt this is just meaningless. They must have said that last part for something.

They kept teasing Majora's Mask for so long as it was originally meant to be released last summer. The game was already handed in to rating agencies like the USK in spring 2014.

This actually makes a ton of sense. Zelda U is supposed to have Amiibo support, so if the Happy Mask Salesman is saying he is showing up. My guess is that there will be cosmetic masks based on Amiibo characters.

Bonus points if they have special powers, but I doubt Nintendo would do that.

That would be interesting. Although some Amiibos may be ignored, like Sonic.

Grezzo spent ages building that engine - I wonder if they'll put out an original title on 3DS with it? Wouldn't say no!

they only re-textured the N64 game and added a few new models. MM 3D is the same as OoT 3D in the fact they use the original code with upgraded graphics.
they did make almost new boss fights this time though.

Well on the other hand they could just do the same thing they did with Hyrule Warriors, tap any Zelda related Amiibo and get a useable weapon you can't get anywhere else as DLC, and any other Amiibo gives you free rupees, and weapons.

So in this case any Zelda Amiibo will give you a specific item, then any other Amiibo will give you random masks up until you collect them all. Or something like that. :/ I can see Nintendo selling an exclusive Gold Link Amiibo and sell it with the game as a limited/collectors edition with the game.
And I can easily foresee a future were there will be fire and bloodshed for that limited edition amiibo.

And added the biggest and most vast Fishing mini game in Zelda history.
Changed a old mask completely into a new looking one.
Changed major mechanics in the game (like Zora swimming.)
And remodeled a water moon dungeon, while also altering how the Great Bay Temple works in terms of ice arrows mechanic changing to being only used on select spots.

God that map is huge.

I'm still not used to Nintendo teasing. They never really did outside of Majora's Mask and Smash because, well... Sakurai.

Would be interesting to see a spinoff game. I mean, if Tingle could have two different spinoff games (and a third Club Nintendo only one), then the Happy Mask Salesman can, too.

Though I would of course flip my lid if what's essentially Majora's Mask Origins is announced as Zelda Wii U. It could make sense as to why we really haven't seen anything substantial related to this new Zelda game, despite it coming out this year.

Please no Termina and/or Majora's Mask 2 though. Majora's Mask is perfect as a one-off thing. There's no need to revisit it, not in such a capacity. I'd love a game that tries to go in MM's direction even further, but not in that same world.

The teasing they did for Smash was brilliant though, a newcomer being shown every once in a while was big news and relived hyped for Smash Bros every time. We knew the game was coming out even before it was planned to be made.

Long story short, instead or releasing all your information on a big game when everyone else does it (E3, Tokyo Game Show, and Gamescom), you should release your information slowly as it's being made, showing off short trailer showing off key components of the game while not completely showing everything about those components off to keep people talking, theorizing, and excited. The key component is visual/video representation of this information, not talking about something, people need to see it with their own eyes to believe if something is happening so they can begin to break things down and discuss.

Or that's how I want companies to do things. I'm sick of E3 sometimes because you can easily miss big games or even smaller games you would of wanted to play, because you become to absorbed into the information of your favorite games being announced and or shown off. For example, I never heard of Evolve until a month before it came out, was really excited about the game because it was completely under my radar (then I discovered all that crap they were doing with DLC and completely put the game off my radar soon after.) But I discovered that game got a ton of awards for being good and here I was going (WHEN WAS THIS?)

When I think of Majora's Mask 2, I too hope it's a different world. But "different world" to me can mean the difference between Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, both of which were technically the same world with technically the same locations, but both had very different worlds in the sense that they didn't look the same or have many of the same features at all.

What I would dislike is what we got with aLttP -> LBW. It's clear that's not going to be the case, though.

I mostly care about some of the gameplay elements that were exclusive to Majora's Mask. I mostly want to see a return of the side quests and the fact that everyone is on a specific path doing specific things at specific times of the day, but I also liked the many masks and how they affected you, the world, and people's perception of you.

I'd love for this to be a hint at a new Zelda game and not Zelda WiiU. I think the 3ds could have 1 more original Zelda game before next gen.
