Will we ever see XBLA and older digital exclusive games ported to PC/Next Gen?

The best times I've had playing games last gen was the multitude of many of the downloadable titles on XBLA and some PSN stuff.

Always had something unique and fun to play whenever the mood striked and had the ability to play with all of your friends for a cheap price.

I put in hours into Uno, into Catan, Iron brigade, and the many many old school fighting game ports.

Lets not forget that Shadow Complex was released to much acclaim and yet it's been ultimately forgotten at this point

And then Bionic Commando Re-armed 2 is stuck in the past as well, along with

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
Final Fight: Double Impact
MM9/10
SF3: 3rd Strike Online Edition
Darkstalkers Resurrection
MVC2/MVC Origins
Every Extend Extra Extreme
Hard Corps: Uprising
The Lumines series
NBA Jam
Radiant Silvergun
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game

REZHD

It should be a criminal offense that RezHD isnt on every single platform already, It needs to be played by everyone every single day.

I know people argue that they should just focus on new games, but alot of these games still have life and communities that play regularly and it would be nice if at least some of the digital library made the transfer.

I wish that the xbox one was backwards compatable, don't care how I just wish it was.

There's a lot of xbla games I would enjoy playing again on pc or next gen console, the work to get a team to port it over for an unknown chance of making the money back is slim.

They should all be ported to PC, the concept of constantly releasing old titles on console with a shiny coat of paint every few years is irksome to me.

To be fair, Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 wasn't that good, especially compared to the first.
It is quite amazing though that the Critically Acclaimed and last I recall high seller Shadow Complex is all but forgotten. Then again Chair makes nothing but Infinity Blade these day and that wore thing after the first game if you ask me. But yeah I feel currently with digital only offerings, the lack of future support is going to get more and more annoying as we move on, until a fix is presented. Aside from PC ports of course.

The Microsoft-published ones should really get the greenlight to go to PC at least (probably also not that hard to bring them to X1) and make some more money. A lot of them were highly acclaimed and would probably get a nice second wind.

I'd love to see Shadow Complex make the jump. The PC version was still listed as "Coming Soon" on Chair's site before it was shut down so the URL could serve as a redirect to Epic's own site, even though the latter had obviously canned the project for reasons unknown. Better late than never, Mr. Sweeney.

Yeah, I was thinking about this the other day. Treasure's games in particular will be a tough loss - you forgot Guardian Heroes, which is also an XBLA exclusive. It's great that they ported Ikaruga to Steam, and I wish they would have done the same with their other games. I'd love for them to come to PC (where games live forever (tm)) but It's too bad that these games aren't even on, say, PS3, where at least they might have a future in streaming via PS Now.

Virtual On stuck on XBLA also sucks :(

But XBLA can keep Shadow Complex, which is one of the most bland games I've ever played.

Oh, and Mega Man 9/10 are thankfully playable via Dolphin.

I really enjoyed the standalone Dead Rising games Case:Zero and Case: West, they were standalone titles that tied the story together between Dead Rising: 1 and Dead Rising: 2, as well as continuing the story after Dead Rising: 2, that took place in different locations than the previous games. They were a way to extend the story of the game series by means of the standard series gameplay but not in a shoddy half-assed way, these felt like full games developed on a smaller budget with a much shorter completion time. However they were exactly what I was expecting and as such loved every second of them. I still go back and play them sometimes despite the fact that they're only narrative tie-ins, I really enjoyed the environments they allowed you to explore. To your point I totally agree that there should be an official solution to backing up these games. At this point in time, if a game has been taken off the marketplace, your only option for preservation or to play again is to turn to piracy which is not cool when it's the ONLY option. Official support is always the best way to go, even if it means re-buying something on a new platform that's been taken offline from its original service.

I think they're likely to make an appearance on the PC coincident with the Steamworks patches for Dead Rising 2 and Off the Record.

Even if Microsoft farms out the sequel to one of their first party developers (what's BigPark doing anyway?), I would love to see a Shadow Complex sequel.

I'd also love to see Guwange on Steam as well. That was an under the radar release on XBLA a few years ago.

We need Outrun online back on PC. :(

After pull out from Xbox and PS market, there is no way to buy full game for this.

The deathclock is ticking on the only good version of this game. Why wasn't this one put on Steam as well? It was the most important of all their ports.

basically the reason I kept my 360

there are only a few retail games I really love and ever play anymore (Nier, Asura's Wrath) but holy hell, I'll be dragging it out to play Rez HD a decade from now

Massive agreement from me.

Hopefully current consoles were designed with easy backwards compatibility of their successors in mind so this stops happening. Either that or platform holders should eventually release official emulators for PC: their job is acting as curators of content, what kind of curator throws everything out every few years?

BigPark make sports and entertainment apps. I think they will be merged with Black Tusk sooner or later, a lot of the staff went there after their last game was cancelled I think anyway

It's one of the reasons I'm hopping Ms goes all in with their "games as universal apps" initiave. It will render this as a non issue for good.

Too bad they can't find a way to back port and enable 360 games to be universal too, but I still hope they come up with a solution for this.

Something to bear in mind for those asking for Shadow Complex - it'll probably never happen because Epic would have to renew the license with Orson Scott Card. It's not an Epic property so less likely to happen.

MS just needs to hurry up and release an all digital 360. They already have better app support than Apple TV and Amazon combined.

So many games I would buy again on Steam, GoG or whatever.

A while ago I had an urge to mindlessly kill and feast on cyborgs as a psycho vampire with one arm replaced with a chainsaw...

I think the only problem here is that if you played them on consoles and moved to PC I could see why you would want them, but on Steam there is such a weekly influx of good indie titles that games like Shadow Complex or The Dishwasher are a dime a dozen. Shadow Complex found it's success on consoles due to there not being as much of an indie scene on consoles back in 09.

I would love them, but I'm not clamoring for them or anything...

It has been almost a year since Ska Studios announced The Diahwasher Vampire Smile for PC, but nothing has been heard since :( Same with Charlie Murder. Those are the games I want most. Should they come out I'll feel content getting rid ofy 360 (haven't booted it up since Charlie Murder came out).

I'd rebuy every game I own on XBLA (that isn't already on PC) on PC.

I don't know what I was thinking buying digital games which are locked to one specific physical box which will get obsolete at some point :/
A silly concept really.

I bought a good amount of XBLA games on the 360 so I would love to see them be at least compatible with the Xbox One. I really want to play some Banjo-Kazooie and Shadow Complex again.

Not even the classic fighting game ports with the online MP?

Give me SF3: 3rd Strike Online Edition on steam ( and Darkstalkers Resurrection) and I'd be a very very happy man. (even a PS4/Xbone version)

Yes they should.

I am glad that going forward in this gen, digital exclusive games are shrinking unless it was a clear cut partnership with the console manufacturers.

Sony has ported or is in the process of porting some of their marquee first-party PSN games. Good on them for doing that. I know Sony and MS have bigger priorities (and rightly so) but I do believe that porting the top 20 or 30 digital games on PS3 and 360 to new gen would be a money maker. Third parties should get on it, too. It's pretty easy money since A) it's porting and B) they know which games are top sellers. I would especially like to see the third party XBLA exclusives come to both new consoles.

Those would be great additions! I was talking more in regards to games that there are no shortage of on pc: puzzle games, platformers, ect.

The moment MS and Sony had rumors of no BC, I stopped buying digital games on console. Until console makers get this figured out, I'll only be buying smaller titles on Steam.

It's more an issue of game preservation, you can't really offer similar experiences as an equal to having these games playable in the future. Imagine if one of your favorite games was an exclusive that had no means of playing it just as some of these XBL games that are no longer available on the store are. Whether or not the games are that great or something you're personally into, it's important that these games are preserved just as all art should be preserved whether its "good" or not.

As Sartre noted in his contemplation on Hell in No Exit, the true horror is other members.
I'm in this place in my life where "preservation" means "my ability to play the game." I mean, like it or not piracy will be the method which strips these executables of their DRM and gets them running with the least amount of additional requirements.

But I'm not interested in pirating games. War of the Worlds, however, is not even legitimately for sale anymore. It's one of those titles, like old Star Trek and Lord of the RIngs PC games, that because of stupid licensing hoo haw, presents no choice to buy it... on any platform.

It will happen to Shadow Complex too, eventually.

Another good reason to keep your Xbox 360.
Yes, these type of threads remind me why I love the 360. Just not seeing enough exclusive arcade/download games on new gen but I know that can change.

As for arcade ports, it looks like the consoles blew their wad last gen. Not sure if there is enough interest ($) to see many of them again on new gen.

I really liked the War of the Worlds demo. Wish I would have bought it ...

Good call. I've adopted this policy with indie releases. I tend to play those more in my laptop anyway.

You and I would get along just fine. Hell, SNK is doing it and improving the netcode in the ports!
