Tales of Vesperia PS3 English Fantranslation released

He joins permanently before the final dungeon. Which is not as bad as it sounds if you do all sidequests and optional dungeons. There's still a butt load to do when the final dungeon appears. Easily another 20 - 30 hours. And Flynn is a beast in battle.

He also temporarily joins the party more often and for longer amounts of time. At times he'll join for a while, then leave for a short amount of time, and then rejoin.

Yep , flynn is playable during the final part of the first act ( the whole place ) , appears multiples times during act 2 and when he joins at the end of act3 before the final dongeon, you can enjoy him to the fullest as he has at least 2 cool quests to do ( i loved them ) and that delicious extra dongeon and colliseum battles.

Patty is easily the worst new addition to the game.

Real reasons to get the PS3 version:

+New artes
+Dual mystic artes
+New skits
+New costumes
+New sidequests (with some tying into the First Strike movie)
+New boss battles
+New areas (with new music)

And the main reason:

+Fully playable Flynn (he's in and out of the party, but has a full moveset and costumes)

Apparently there was no such thing. http://www.siliconera.com/2011/06/2...rt-of-an-xbox-360-exclusivity-deal-after-all/

I remembering hearing that it was false information that Microsoft bought rights to keep the PS3 version from being localized in the west but it was so hard to hear with so many sites saying otherwise.

I remember even being mad at Microsoft for that at the time.

Can't they just rename the game and port it to the PS4?

Did MS fund development or NA marketing for ToV back in the day?

This is why Bamco needs to port this to PS4, like yesterday.. I have had a 360, but I really want a updated and superior PS4 version.

It's hard to believe they are still leaving money on the table with this..

Any guide on how to install this? I have an amaze break and a ps3 with old firmware (saved it for this!!)
Help would be great :)

I mean how is the translation, font, any bugs, etc............

Going from their forums, there is one known typo, but they spent most of the development time quality checking their translations. If I recall correctly, they actually had announced the preliminary translation was complete in 2011, and basically just had quality control left. So there may be a few typos here and there (again, only one known so far) but I doubt the translation is anything but flawless. They've put a lot of love/work into this project, so I'd expect it to be pretty darn good.

You can check the script yourself here at the Online Translation Guide, which is designed for those who cannot find a way to patch their PS3's. From what I have read, (the first skit with Yuri and Repede + a much later skit with Estelle, Rita, Judith and Patty) the translation is more than just a literal translation, it takes the time to "localize" the dialogue. For example, the way Patty speaks in Japanese (ending sentences often with "nanojyaa", which my Japanese teacher tells me is probably the writers making her use an intentionally "old samurai" style of talking as a way to be cute) is now localized as her using stereotypical "pirate speak".

Here, the sentence:
一番の調味料は、その気持ちなのじゃ/ichiban no choumiryou ha, sono kimochi nanojya
which roughly translates to (my own interpretation):
the best flavoring is that feeling (+nanojya, which I don't fully understand, but apparently seems intentionally like she is speaking like an "old samurai")
is localized as (by their "professional" translation):
Aye, that passion is the most important seasoning of all!

So expect a proper localization style fan translation. The merits of localization vs pure translation are numerous in my opinion (within reason, renaming characters and changing settings is weird) so this is something I will greatly appreciate. Once I can get it to work... :p

It's funny, because playing the game in full Japanese is a good immersion experience for me, but I still don't have the proper level of Japanese to understand most of the game, so I've still been waiting for this to release for a while.
Yeah no interest in getting a 360 just for this.
To be fair, I was planning on buying an old school PS3 one day just for this. Since a 360 still has a lot of other cool exclusives, it does make more sense than my insanity at least :).

No problem, always nice to use my decent Japanese to help people out/translate things. It's still gonna be a few years before I can play this game without spending massive amounts of time attempting translation or just breezing through with only what I remember from the 360 version. Can't wait to get this patch working eventually, just wish someone would find a work around for OFW 3.60 or above to run it.

Wow. Vesperia PS3 was a huge selling point when I was deciding whether or not to get a PS3. Shame it never actually got a US release.

...Might have to start pricing CFW PS3s so I can play this.

This is why Bamco needs to port this to PS4, like yesterday..

This would also be amazing.

I completed this on 360 years ago and felt it was perfect. While I wouldn't mind playing this fan translation, the English dub was pretty excellent and this is missing that. Really a shame Bamco is localizing every Tales game except this one.

They'll probably port it later when they need a cheap schedule filler like they did with Symphonia. Japan already has two versions of the game and newer stuff has been a greater priority for the west, so there's been no fit for it.

At the moment there's still stuff they can and probably will do first, and they seem to be sticking to one console release per year, so it may be a little while longer.

That's actually a really good point. While I would love to play the new version, my wife would be pretty bummed that all the voice work is in Japanese.

I'm still using my good ol' 60gb phat. Sounds like I'm good to go for downgrading... if I can figure out how.

Still, really cool that this finally got released. I remember a few years ago when I was checking the progress bars on this project pretty much every day.

Eons late with this patch. Was hoping Namco could've thrown us PS3 users a bone. Knowinh Namco though, wouldn't surprise me if they released a PS4 version using fan translation. They'll buy the fan translation, change some text and code, re-package it out West as Tales of Vesperia collection. I wanted to see what the fuss about that Pirate girl, as all of GAF, was drooling over her back when it was released.

I've had a Jap Vesperia ready for this, so you can say I'm very happy now!
My PS3 is downgradable, but I'll still see if there is someone in this town that can do the job for me.
Even if I can't use the patch, the translation guide is awesome too, and I get the benefit of improving my somewhat poor Japanese.

Good effing god at the online translation. That is an absurd amount of effort and passion involved. Kudos. This would be definitely a great standard if all fan translations were like this.

There are quite a few. Sometimes fans just have to step up where companies failed to do so.

The Ace Attorney Investigations 2 translation in particular is extremely amazing work, took many years and overcoming a lot of programming hurdles.

Yeah... so downgrading a PS3 involves hardware and soldering -- there's no simple software tool. Not comfortable with physical tampering, since it's my primary gaming console.

Online guide looks pretty nice, though! Never tried playing through a Japanese game using one, but maybe I'll give it a shot.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
For being sub-HD, the PS3 version looks remarkably good and just about the same as what I remember the 360 version looking like.

Load times even with the install are still longer than 360 and frame rate is uneven at times, not a solid 60. 360 version with the NXE was damn near as fast as a cartridge and never slowed down.

To some apparently / did not + do not have a 360.

I tried her a bit, bloody hell, she IS proto-Ludger. Hard as hell to control too, I think I'll stick with Raven.

It definitely more pleasant to the eyes than Xillia 1-2. Wish new Tales would use this style again instead of the semi-realistic stuff they have going on now. :/

Alright I got this!

Now I just need to fix my Mom's YLOD PS3 whenever that comes in the mail and I'll be set.

There is but you have to have an old enough PS3.

How old is old enough? I have one of the first run slims (the 120gb model) on the latest OFW. If there's a way to back it up to CFW this might be enough to push me over the edge to just getting a new PS3 for my day to day use instead.

Well if you have a first run slim you should be good to downgrade really! To be sure you can download a update.pup that just runs a check on the lowest firmware your PS3 can use and if it's 3.55 or lower you're good.

Vesperia PS3 is the only game I've ever imported. I played a little over a third of the game when I first got it, but eventually it found its way into my backlog partially due to the annoyance of having to read from a translation guide alongside a massive RPG.

Does anyone know if the patch will work with current save files, or would I need to start the game over from the beginning?

Edit: Nevermind, I have the most up to date firmware on my Slim so I probably can't run the homebrew. :/

Going to splash out and get an ODE to play this bad boy. No soldering, no downgrading, no mess.

Unless I mess the install up then, yeah, mega mess.

Now that people have had some time with it... Is it possible to sync these trophies to your regular account or will that get it banned?

It actually came out!!?? And I read this on April Fools day?

Time to bust out that 60GB PS3 I have in storage that still has Other OS support.

I'm almost done with it, aside from some typos it's flawless.

Would it allow a PS3 to play this without tampering? Don't want my console banned.

You'd have to take special precautions if you want to go online with it. I have no idea what that entails but you can google it.

I would play offline, it's just afterwards anything leaving traces to lead to a ban would suck.

So does this imply that going online with a CFW PS3 is ok though? I just would like to sync the ToV trophies to my main account.

yeah you'd have to read up on it honestly.

it implies that there are certain versions of multiman and whatever other loaders you have that can't be detected by sony. I never bothered with them because I don't plan on going online seeing as how Vesperia is the only game I'm gonna play on my PS3, maybe P5 but that doesn't require online either.

Oooh so if I use those certain versions, theoretically I should be able to sync the platinum trophy when I get it and avoid getting banned right?

I don't know why people place so much value in trophies that they would risk getting their accounts, which contain purchases made with real life currency, banned and thus forfeiting it all.

An ODE shouldn't get you banned since it doesn't use any sort of CFW. If you start using custom applications with it (such as multiman I believe) you will be banned when you try to go online. While needing to be installed, it can be uninstalled later. You can also turn it off if you don't need to use it.

I can't find a CFW PS3 for a decent price, so an ODE is a cheap alternative that doesn't make my PS3 unable to ever go online again (which is what I want to do after finishing Vesperia).
