I have similar specs to you and was able to find a pretty cheap GTX 660 on eBay used. What kind of PSU do you have? I was able to skirt by without upgrading my PSU.
I tryed it on my Surface Pro 2 (Intel Core i5-4200U + Intel HD Graphics 4400), and with the lowest settings at 720p I get between 15 and 25 FPS depending on the city, so it should be good on your PC :)
You guys are awesome, thanks! Seems like the GTX 660 should work with a 350 or even 300W PSU and I'm sure there are lower-draw cards than that above the min specs.

For those with less than stellar PCs, especially those with intel integrated graphics.....

Give the Dynamic Resolution mod a shot. It will allow you to run the game at a native resolution, but with a much lower internal resolution so your machine can actually run the game. You can crank it down to an eye-gougingly low resolution, to the point that it looks like a 3D game from the 90s. But at least it will run!

Yeay! First city coming along nicely.

Pretty happy with it, need to relocate the last garbage dump though

to garbage district

New part coming along as well:

I feel I have a LOT to improve on, not least traffic management and public transportation. I'd also like to improve land value, and get more commercial and residential areas going a bit faster. :/

You probably want to take a look at the GTX 750. It's based on a newer, more power-efficient architecture from Nvidia, so it actually draws less power than comparably-performing 6-series cards. No guarantees that it would run in whatever premade system you have, but it has one of the lowest power draws for a card in its performance class. And you can get them for around $100 (or $150 for the faster TI model). If your PC has a 300w power supply, you should be fine.

If your PC has less than a 300w PSU, then you probably want to look at the GT 730, which you can get for under $80. Certainly not as good of performance, but if you plan on keeping that computer for a while, it will still beat the pants off that integrated graphics chip, and it should work with all but the most anemic power supplies.

Ok so I re-downloaded the DRmod just to be sure, and unless I'm crazy it looks like theres still SOMETHING being done to the sub-100% resolutions thats causing them to look much worse than setting your resolution lower in the settings
I'm no expert, far from it, but I'd wager an intel HD 4000 should be able to handle 720x540... right?

(apologies in advance, this is all going to look PRETTY bad... and long)

For your consideration:

Heres 1280x800:
vAA4hd3.png

And heres it with the Dynamic Resolution Mod scaling to 75% of 1280x800:
F4IIIqc.png

And 50% of 1280x800:
pSoeeZf.png

As you can see, looks terrible (except for the UI, which is why you'd use this mod, however...)

Heres 720x540 (I've fixed the mod showing the wrong resolution in a later pic)
1qDbkTi.png

And 720x540 without the options:

In my opinion, except for the pretty much un-readable UI, the 720x540 screenshot looks much better than the 1280x800 scaled (one of which is higher resolution than the 720x540! Compare the two side-by-side, tabbing back and forth really lets you see how blurry the scaled options are.

And heres the mod showing the right value for the resolution (sorry the new pics dont line up with the older ones!)

Also I'm still getting the app hanging even if I exit to main menu, and THEN to desktop... bleh

Eh, yeah, not great. 540p looks barely playable, and not particularly legible.

But you're right, the built-in scaler that Unity is using looks worse than what the graphics card is putting out. Maybe nevermind about that scaler mod for low end machines then. Hopefully someone tweaks on this game some more to give those with really low end machines a better shot at running the game.

The thing is, that mod worked GREAT until he updated it to include AA. Like, it was THE MOD if you had a low-end system. Your UI would look great, and you could just drop your render resolution to whatever your computer could handle. But now, the best solution is to install the UI scaler and bump that bad boy up until you can read the text :\

ALTERNATIVELY if someone here can figure out how to get his 1.0 code working, that'd be top.

I've tried but I haven't dived very deep into C:S modding, so I'm not sure how to fix these errors :\

It doesn't really seem to work that well for upscaling either right now. 100% and 200% look correct for me, anything in between is blurry as hell and I can't use it.

Be careful. Having your entire garbage crew drive across town may overload traffic in certain areas.

Stop shitting on my team. Start shitting on my finger.
I wish there was a bigger variety of trees. 4 trees just doesn't quite cut it.

Also I'm SWIMMING in money. My 4th city is finally successful and I'm at ~50k comfortably making 10k+ a week and have more than 3 mill in the bank. Guess it's time to go after those unlocks. Wish I had pics but I'm at work and steam didn't upload them I guess. :( My highway interchanges are a beautiful mess though LOL. I'm holding on traffic-wise at least.

There's absolutely NO demand for commercial though, that parks bag is no joke. Like I'll have the highest land value, no other commercial nearby and they stay empty. Have had to de-zone most commercial and replace it with residential&office.

Is there any reason to keep low-density housing around? For variety of looks maybe? Or will my "young adults" leave the city if they don't have low-density housing to move to once they want to found a family?

What are your guys' tax settings? I have everything at 11 atm, might lower it a bit since I'm making lots of money anyway and lowering it will probably help growing the city some more.

Yeah, don't make that mistake. Putting all garbage and deathcare in one place can fuck you over later. Especially since for some inexplicable reason hearses and garbage trucks will prefer to drive miles away to pick something up instead of tackling the buildings I built them right next to.

hey guys do elderly do anything in this game?

Also, borderlands filter mod stores RAM until you restart. It's advised you delete/disable it for the time being

For the commercial demand bug I downloaded the mod that fixes it. Demand for commercial came back right away and has been great ever since.

I keep some of my areas at low density housing, I've got a few small town and suburb areas that I like the looks of. If all you want is a huge megalopolis then there's no reason to keep it.

For taxes I've kept mine at 11% across the board, but I do give new areas tax reliefs via policies (-2%) when I'm first growing them. Once the people have moved in then I cancel the policy so they pay their fair share! I do also have one or two office parks set with the +2% tax policy so they actually are paying 13%. But in general I've kept all taxes at 11%, seems to be the best balance for me so far.

God I hope that gets patched, it's frustrating seeing buildings across the street from a Crematorium go abandoned because the hearse coming to pick up the corpse is on the other side of the map. My traffic is fine, but the distance they're traveling is too great.

Just let me lock service vehicles to their home buildings reach, or the district they're built in.
Or even let me click on the Service buildings and define their jurisdiction.

They should be paid pension IMO :p

They pay their debt in the corpse bondire.

....this makes me think. If I could, I'd make a mod that adjusts the properties of the crematorium so that it outputs hotdog and donut delivery trucks. Then I'd mod the building and those trucks to be green.

Soylent Green Crematorium.

Well, my city is sort of collapsing at 180k population. So many abandoned buildings in my old downtown region. No real indication as to why either. I guess I just didn't organize/plan it well enough -- maybe not enough connections to industry for goods or something. Guess it's onto city 3 now. Going to try to be more creative with it.

You can click on an abandoned building and mouseover the flashing icon to see why it became abandoned.

Oh wow, that's super helpful. I have the automatic bulldoze abandoned/burned down building mod, so they're never around long enough. I may have to turn it off to investigate.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
If it's industry, then educated workers are seeking better jobs elsewhere (usually commercial or office work)

Seriously. I know traffic is basically the thing that makes the game difficult, but it's not realistic at all to have services like that completely ignore neighboring buildings just because someone miles away complained first. In real life the garbage trucks would have set routes (But that would be way too much micromanagement) so an alternative would be to restrict them to only pick buildings closest to them, and also possibly attach them to a district. The way it is now is just game breaking. When I pop down a crematorium or incinerator in a specific area, it's because I saw the demand for it there. It's heartbreaking to watch the trucks leave the building and drive right past the people I was trying to help because they have screwed up priorities. I'm pretty sure it happens with ambulances and police cars too, maybe fire trucks, but I haven't seen enough evidence of those services not getting around fast enough. But those three services need to be changed to use other lanes and push cars off to the side so they can pass like they do in real life.

Not to mention that a line of cars will stop if even a single pixel of the corner of a hearse or ambulance is parked at a building. GO AROUND IT GUYS!

The hardest part of this game is forcing turning lanes so cars use up all lanes instead of just 1

it's actually kinda fun though :lol

I'm still working on the road connections for my first city [bought all the squares straight away after making the map in the editor, lot of space to fill!], haven't got around to using some of the mods yet.

I downloaded too many mods, getting some weird error when I load up my save file saying broken assets, duplicate name. Too many asset mods to figure out what's causing it, hopefully doesn't affect the save file.

I did a bit of googling and a user mentioned it may happen when an asset creator deletes the file from the steam workshop but you still have it...

Hope they sort out the preview icon for the workshop assets, I've got sooooooo many intersections downloaded.

If you install a building asset and a city loads it in as a building, what happens if you delete the asset later? (Say it's ugly and not up to your standards) Will the game properly just replace it with a similarly leveled asset, or will it completely fuck up your save for no reason? Have the devs taken this into account yet?

Hit 50k pop last night, started expanding into the left side of my map.

Got to grips with a few of the big traffic issues I was having with the large residential area but there are still a few intersections that need work/alternatives. Flow is much better though. Traffic is heavy, but still moves.

I'm getting pretty addicted to traffic management and trying to squeeze roads/ramps/highways in through all the tiniest spots haha.. Very cool.

omg this dude made his own bus terminal that's so smart! Even including foot access

this guy too!

That's...actually a very cool idea. I think in my next city I'm going to design a similar central bus terminal for all lines to meet up right from the start. I might even try to do something like that in my current city, it would take a lot of rework...

Smiley90

Stop shitting on my team. Start shitting on my finger.
I dont think it actually works though, based on Cim AI

why would it not work? People can change bus lines, no?

On another note... I love how I can increase/decrease my transit budget... but... How can I actually tell if I SHOULD?!? I wanna see my public transit load per bus/metro :/ Or am I somehow supposed to draw conclusions from the "car trips saved" number?
