BloodBorne Sales Expectations : What are yours? What Could Sony's be ?

A bunch of people in some other thread were predicting it would do worse than The Order. I don't see how that's possible.

Before the reviews came out I was expecting The Order to do much better than it obviously has. But Bloodborne will almost certainly sell more; I reckon The Order will peak around 1.5 million and Bloodborne will easily clear 2 million.

2 million max sales. This is a niche title like Bayonetta so its not an game casuals will buy.

It's a first party game with excellent review scores, lots of hype online and (from my anecdotal viewpoint) decent marketing so far, and most importantly it's on a console with incredible momentum. I think this is a completely different scenario to Bayonetta.

Somewhere between Demon's and Dark Souls.

More than Demon's because the brand is much bigger now (though it's half hidden by the new name, I generally think it's known that this is by the "Souls people"), less than Dark Souls because it's one SKU on one platform instead of two SKUs on three platforms.

1-2 million, nice achievement for Sony as a game, but as a top seller it won't even come near the COD, Madden's and yearly franchises. Especially being restricted to PS4 only.

I think Bloodborne was much more hyped than DS 2. Probably since it's an exclusive, as well as It being the first "FROM" game this generation of consoles.

The biggest fanbase of the Souls series was on Playastaion consoles from the start, so I'm sure Bloodborne will outsell DS 2 on the PS3, potentially even surpassing DS 2's overall sales for all the consoles(Though that might be a bit too soon to tell)

PS4 is selling like crazy so it might actually happen eventually.

3.2 million estimated

edit:people not thinking this will drive PS4 sales are crazy-

It doesn't have broad appeal. A very difficult game with a violent and dreary setting that isn't a shooter or traditional Skyrim type action.

People will buy PS4s for it but it's still a game for the hardcore, I don't see a very high attach rate. Don't let GAF and the media fool you into thinking this is something bigger than it is, we are a smaller chunk of the user base.

And comparing it to Dark Souls have to realize this is PS4 only and a much smaller install base.

Edit: I wish it well, I have no reason not to, but am just making a counter argument in the sake of conversation.

I think it will definitely do well. My GameStop had 6 extra copies for non-reserves and I know they sold out already. I know thats not a lot but its a good sign when the stores only been open an hour.

I am speaking clearly in terms of previous souls players. It may push a couple people to get a PS4 if you are a souls fan and only have a PC/XB1/WiiU/PS3/360

believe it

Will have to wait until someone checks the credits.

Demon's Souls was 61. Dark Souls was 70ish. Dark Souls 2 was 82. So, I'm guessing <100.

Assuming we use DS2 as base and estimating a value of $10000 average per developer. In a period of 2 years, that would be 20 million at a flat rate. 1 million sales at a $60 price point (ignoring extra % revenue from the PSN store) would total $60 million. Going by this chart:

chart11.jpg

We can at least eliminate platform loyalty as it is an exclusive leaving it at $34 dollars per sale. Assuming every copy is sold with no stock returns would invoke a bonus of an extra $7 profit leaving it at $41 PER SALE. That's double the expected development budget. Assuming of course this while IP is entirely funded by SONY, this incentive leaves FROM with contract bonuses if performs this well. I can see why exclusivity is more favourable to them than a multi-plat game.

To ppl saying look how started ps4 gamers are . I'm on gaf was looking forward to order didn't buy it due to reviews . I have no plans of buying bloodborne until it hits 20 or lower and then I'll think about it . It's just not my type of game and I'm sure it's the same with many others ...

what?

I don't understand why you're bringing COD or Madden into the conversation. A game can still be very successful without having to sell 12 million or 20 million copies like those games. Probably no 'fantasy' game in recent times besides Skyrim or Blizzard has come close to their sales numbers.

The last number we had on Dark Souls was 2.5 million wasn't it?

It was about 2.4 million as of April 2013, if I recall correctly. Probably a fair amount higher than that by now, accounting for digital sales and hype around the release of DSII.

I don't necessarily disagree with your devil's advocate viewpoint, but while the install base is much smaller than the one Dark Souls released to, it's coming out at a quiet time of year and attach rates early in a generation are always much higher than when there's 50 million or 100 million units out there.

Decent point, but the first argument betrays the second; this is precisely the chunk of the userbase that is more likely to upgrade their Consoles early.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say 3 million copies sold/sell this week alone, including the pre-sales of the Digital version on PSN.

20.2 million PS4s have been sold as of last month... that a WHOLE LOT of hungry Next-Gen gamers waiting for a System Seller.

I mean:

Yea... Amazon is ringing it up pretty good right now.

People are buying Bloodborne itself on Amazon, or buying the PSN Gift Cards and then flipping them onto the PS4 to buy it digitally.

I think it will surpass 3M lifetime sales. But I think it could go as far as 5M if people really fall in love with it.

I think this type of game aren't niche anymore. They have carved quite the following since the Demons Souls days.

I just bought a physical copy (already have digital) from Target.com because they have $15 off of a $20 PSN card with purchase. I had lots of Target gift cards to use up so wth right. I will lend the game to a few friends because otherwise I don't think they will buy the game. Gotta add to the sales and give back!

2 million. Dedicated Souls fans + ps4 enthusiasts are the main market for this game.

Add an extra 500k if sony markets this game really really well.

Kinda makes me wish I didn't sell my PS4. Ah well at least I have something to look forward to when I pick one up again.

Sure, this seems realistic. I'm sure it will outsell Uncharted 3 (!).

Install base doesn't really matter other than avoiding ludicrous propositions like selling more copies than systems owned. Higher install bases also generally mean more competition so everything evens out.

For example, yes, a lot more people owned a PS3 when Dark Souls came out, but at the same time, it was competing against 5 years worth of games. Fewer people own a PS4 now, but similarly, there's much less competition for those PS4 owners.

No exclusive comes near Madden and Cod yearly releases. come on dude

Lol, no.

And your second sentence makes no sense...why would people who already own the console care if the game is a system seller?

I'm expecting 300k-500k first month in NA. Maybe as high as 1 million worldwide first-month. 2-4 million in a year with maybe another million or two lifetime. Not counting bundles or PS+ giveaways.

Souls is becoming one of the biggest franchises around, that constantly provide quality and satisfy the general public. I believe the game will outsale all other souls game, and sell really well (reaching closer to 5M by the end of the year), there are many reasons behind my predictions, being the hype, review scores, and simply because there arent many "true" next gen games, and people are starving for a game that proves their console purchase. In my opinion that is also why The Order will probably sell decently despite the reviews

Considering all that, and the fact that the PS4 is selling extremelly well (having surpassed the PS2 already) I would predict 1M copies in the 1st month, and around 5M by the end of the year.

5 mil?
Haha, no.

Meight, DkS II didn't sell that on three platforms with a combined install base at least ten times larger than PS4's.
