Fighting Games Weekly | Mar 23-29 | Forever Yung at heArt

What's the format? I hope it's not 2/3. At least 3/5 if it's just a double elimination tournament.

As for Final Round, like I said in the FR thread it now had the 2nd biggest SF4 tourney outside of EVO. The old record which they held was 426, now it's at least 470.

The schedule says 3 hours from top 16 to top 8. Going by SXSW 15 min per match, that means 12 matches in 3 hours. From top 16- top 8 there are 16 matches in total.

My guess is it's going to be 2/3 up until top 8 at least.

I figured the same thing when I did some math. It just seems like such a waste when you're getting some of the best players around the world to face off in a invitational event. We do 2/3 for tournaments because of time constraints. But this is a invitational, they're cutting off all the fat and getting straight to the meat. And to still use short sets for something like this feels like wasted potential to me.

Was hyped to watch the ft5 between Mago and Palmister..

to find out he went Fei smh.

Also, I started making notes for character matchups as Elena. This is all I could come up for Abel

why is it when a Japanese player does bad people make up all the excuses in the world but when an American or UK player does bad, their free?

Track record.

Though when it comes to Mago, there are no excuses. He's been doing pretty badly with Yang no matter the occasion.

3 tournaments ago in January.

Cool. Japan I'm guessing? Legit can't remember the last time he won a tournament in North America, or even reached grand finals.

I want to see the beast unleashed but this dude keeps getting booted out "early" in the bracket. Everyone is so damn good now.

Daigo will never pick Yun he's too stubborn(?). Also F Champ has E Ryu exp with PR Rog, he can beat Daigo.

Maybe he's practicing a new secret main and doesn't want people prepping?

He's still a big target, even though he's not winning as much as the early days of SF IV.

to those who are going to ncr and nwm, you will have the opportunity to play tekken 7 at both events

Thanks @Harada_TEKKEN & team for making TEKKEN 7 at events possible! T7 will be at NCR (April 3 - 5) and NWM7 (April 24 - 26)! See ya there!

I think Mago will be alright.

Yang isnt easy to play and he's just straight dropping his main of 2+ years that he mastered in order to play a completely different kind of character.

Can't even think of anyone else who's done that.

And people expect him to still be able to compete at the highest level?

Give him some time.

That's true, he's probably the only one that went all in with a new character.

Xian, Gamerbee, Sako, Justin etc. started using more characters but still use their old mains.

Infiltration has been character hopping like a madman, and it shows. I want to see him with Akuma and/or Chun, and focused on those.

lol yeah, especially with Daigo stans. he loses a match/gets eliminated and all you hear is

"2/3 is so dumb in this day and age"
"this is why tournaments should be 3/5"
"guarantee Daigo would've beaten *insert person he lost to here* in a long set tho!"

What a dumb and false narrative. The Japanese scene is just that much better than the US/European scenes for obvious reasons. The strict dichotomy described by fader doesn't even exist. People were calling Daigo free just a year and a half ago and the criticisms against 2/3 sets are very legitimate. Ask any Japanese player and they'd tell you they like Daigo in long sets.

There's little more pathetic than the strain of base anti-Japan/Daigo sentiments I see pop up in this community, continuously. Awesome, you don't like Daigo as much as others. We're so glad you're all here, brave rebels, to bring balance and perspective to the current order.

They should figure out what rules help Daigo win the most and make all tournaments follow that

I agree that it's pathetic to root for players other than Daigo

Alioune posted on twitter he agreed with Mago when he said that Yang is probably better against top tier characters than Yun is.

I feel like there's alot of wasted potential also. They're spending a bunch of money to fly people out for an event that's going to be over in a day when they could milk it out to 2 or 3 days and really showcase the talent that's in the building. But these are the growing pains as companies become involved in turning fighting games into eSports.

lol at the Daigo salt. He's a god when you put him in a tournament that caters to his strengths.

Alioune says a lot of weird unpopular opinions lol. I know he's an amazing player with a lot of knowledge in games he plays, I'm still cautious ever since all the UNIEL Nanase stuff he used to say. Saying something about her being one of the strongest characters and being one of Wald's worst matchups.
