So I beat the first boss yesterday on my 2nd attempt. I summoned an NPC helper for science and the fight was over quicker than I thought. Worked my way through the sewers and right up to the second boss without dieing. I then got scared and went back to the Hunter's Dream to spend my Echoes on. Got the Saw Spear (?) because I heard it's pretty good and levelled up a few times.
Stat-wise it seems the Saw Spear is slightly weaker and slower than the Saw Cleaver but it has a higher range? It also scales better with Skill than the Cleaver.
I like hitting multiple enemies with a charged R2 attack. Since the Saw Spear thrusts forward, does it actually hit multiple enemies like the Saw Cleaver does?

I was trying to summon my friend to a boss. We put matching passwords and were speaking on chat. When I got the notification a chime was discovered I was expecting him. Instead an invader took his place. It was so weird.

Do you know how chimes work? (not being sarcastic or anything, jw)

Basically, when you use a bell, you summon a bell maiden into your world (in the near area) that rings the bell to find a player. Whenever this bell maiden is out, an invader ringing the resonant bell can be summoned into your world by using your maidens bell chimes. Effectively making it so you make yourself vulnerable by wanting to COOP.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
So far I've beaten, in this order (I think):
- Cleric beast
- Father Gwhatever
- Blood soaked beast
- Darkbeast Paal
- Vicar Whitedog
- Dual Witches
- Three Nazgul
- Friendly neighbourhood slug spider

Have I missed any?

Also, I heard you need
umbilical cords
to fight
the true final boss
. I have one, which I found in the
abandoned workshop
. How many do I need, and is it possible to miss them?

It's not even the same universe. If it's supposed to be consistent, then this lantern 2 feet away from me would refill them no problem, which is also a bad design decision.

I said a consistent one, not the same one.

I'm completely aware of BB not being set anywhere near the souls games.

Basically, when you use a bell, you summon a bell maiden into your world (in the near area) that rings the bill to find a player. Whenever this bell maiden is out, an invader ringing the resonant bell can be summoned into your world but using your maiden. Effectively making it so you make yourself vulnerable by wanting to COOP.
I do know how they work and as you can see there is no bell maiden present and the text for the invader is different than the text you get when a co op partner joins.

I've been trying to learn to use the cane. Its whip form feels really good, but the damage output is really bad. It feels more suited for defensive gameplay, which I feel in this game is a bad bad idea. Maybe I'll get good using it, gives the game a Castlevania vibe I really like.

Basically you are playing offensively and defensively at the same time, chaining together R1 and R2 attacks, switching to cane mode when appropriate and micromanaging your stamina and movements.

Honestly, it feels like a game of chess expressed in rapid movement, you watch your opponent make a move and then you make yours; planning out each dash and counter every step of the way.

Honestly, it's a lot harder but a lot more fun in some ways and really showed me how great the combat system is and the depth to it.

It becomes a game of offensive range and dodging, absolutely fantastic really.

Here's a list of all the bosses in the game (if that's what you're asking):

Damn, that's some funky shit. The coop/online seems to be pretty hit or miss, honestly.

BSB in the Ailing Loran chalice dungeon is crazy, getting hit by any kind of combo attack or getting grabbed was an instant kill. Had to just kill it with parries and visceral attacks.

You need three, and it is very possible to miss them. My first playthough I missed them.

Well if you rescue her and talk to her in the Ward you can get a gesture, plus some unique blood (not too useful though). But other than that...

What triggers it though? I beat the game without her doing so, but I may not have gone back to the Cathedral Ward enough times. The
old lady
didn't die for me either, though she did give me sedatives.

Missing boss:

Martyr Logarius in the Clinic

And yeah.
You need to consume 3 Umbilical Cords (of which there are 4 in the game) to get the true ending. 2 of which can be locked out if you don't do the NPC's quests.

How can I parry reliably?

Also, is it worth making a Pthumeran Root dungeon (depth 1)?

How do bosses in chalice dungeons work, are there lanterns before them or shortcuts Luke in the main game?

Beat Rom. Game is surreal and weird and awesome.
Rom took three attempts, the first being my test run where I wasn't stocked up on shit and just ran in blind to see what it was like. Really didn't find him too bad and wonder what difficulties people are having. Crowd control is key; try and take out as many spiderlings as you can before taking on Rom. Both Rom and the spiderlings are have weak heads, but their sides a buttery and deal huge damage. I was one-two hit killing the spiders from the side, three with a front on combo, and they're not too difficult to slowly isolate or dodge away from. Rom too is fairly simple, circle around and lay into his sides, watch for the slam. Annoyance was the projectile summon, but some quick moving and dodging worked wonders. Like, I was able to go in with a clear strategy and patience and it worked fine.

I've never killed the spiders...I just went on his sides and unleashed my heavy attack with ludwigs holy blade then switched to the Axe. RInse and repeat and beat ROM without spider interference. Dodging the ice boulders was easy if you run right to left in that pattern to avoid getting hit most of the time.

i hate the co-op restrictions that are placed by lvl. I don't get to play much but when I do, I want to play with a buddy of mine. He's overleveled so ill never get to run through the game with him. The game is brilliant except for this.

It makes sense. Otherwise it trivializes the game.

For BSB, the only attack I even tried to parry is the one where it raises up it's right arm for a swipe. If it started any other kind of attack, I dodged because if I missed it meant death due to huge damage from a combo or getting grabbed. In the regular game I fought it pretty normally but couldn't risk it in the chalice dungeon.

I just beat the game myself. Man that was crazy. I got the true ending as well. Hell of a ride. I take issue with some of the the various decisions they made but overall it was pretty great. I think I'll take a break before I dive into NG+.

Tell him to create a second character to play coop with you. That's what I did.

Got a lvl 56 Axe/Strength build primary character for my single player run, and a lvl 30 Cane/Skill build character to have fun with my buddy.

Should I summon the NPC to the fight with BSB? I dont want to but Im having a lot of trouble beating this easy boss.

Are there any benifits for summoning him?

Yea lanterns are plentiful and near each other in Chalices (it's like a 20 second run from most lamps to bosses). You are also free to go to Hunter's Dream or come back to the Chalice after farming some items. So long as you don't remove the Chalice from the Tombstone.

Many thanks guys. I'll hunt down that boss I missed. Crazy that I'm only just
over halfway through the boss list :/
.

RE:

. If they can be locked off, and I have one as per above, and just beat Rom, how fucked am I?
I read that you can get one from the prostitute, who I have sitting in pain at the church. But I've also heard she can get murdered by the priestess, who is now cackling like mad.

He has a lot of HP, and in my case, BSB aggroed him primarily nearly the entire fight. So yeah, summon him.

Kill the nun
to ensure you get true ending.

If you killed
Rom and haven't been to the clinic yet (via the cave in forbidden woods), that's your best bet. Go there, kill the lady if she is on the table, that gives you your second. Your third is from the second to last boss, that one you always get :)

Wait, He's at the Clinic? Like at the beginning of the game clinic? I thought he was the boss of
Cainhurst

Holy shit. This fucking game.

The boss door is very close to the beginning lantern, you just can't access that boss door until you unlock it further in the dungeon.

If each of you is wearing a different covenant rune and you are from a post covenants then you will end up as enemies. Even if you summon for a friend. It's an amazing mechanic because it makes duels with friends possible, but it's also a troll mechanic. I like it

You need
3, you will get one from a mandatory boss and you can get another from a location after Rom. There is one missable but 4 total ways

I'm lvl 55 and have nearly 30 in strength/skill but I would like to go arcane (I got some pretty weapon and I'd like to use them :p), Do you think it's too late to go arcane ?

You miss Logarius in the Cainhurst castle side area.

You can miss 2 cords I think, and there are 4 in total. You need 3.
