All of Netflix's shows range from being immensely disappointing to boring to dogshit save for the first season of house of cards. Still interested in this one though.

That's not true at all. Orange is the New Black is absolutely fantastic.

So this Loeb person, who is it exactly? I read somewhere he was involved with the early first season of Agents of Shield. God that Devin Faraci tweet has me worried...

Someone who worked shows like Heroes and Lost. He went to work for Marvel, did some comic work, his son died and now they're afraid to fire him. Seems to have the tendency to write his own life into his work.

Daredevil could spin off into “hard R” Punisher reboot

With Netflix raising the bar on what’s acceptable on the small-screen, Marvel fans have one character right at the top of their wishlist for a Daredevil spin-off, and showrunner Steven DeKnight is of the same mind.

“I’ve been a huge fan of the Punisher comics for years,” says DeKnight, speaking exclusively to SciFiNow.”I’d love to see him get his due on a platform like this. Nothing would delight me more than to see the Punisher get his own show and maybe we could convince Marvel to go Hard-R rating. If any character deserves an R rating, it’s the Punisher.”

You couldn't be wronger

I mean, even if he were right, that's a silly ass criticism anyway.

It's not like the same writers, producers, directors, etc are working on every Netflix show. The quality of some other stuff that launched on Netflix doesn't logically reflect on Daredevil at all.

Current run is by Nathan Edmondson and Mitch Gerads. The above image is from the previous run by Greg Rucka and Marco Checchetto. It was excellent.

Rucka's run was what got me to like Punisher. Amazing run. The worst thing about it was when someone was filling in for Checchetto. I'd love to see a Punisher Netflix series.

How much would Netflix subscription generally cost you? Kind of tempted now. But it's just streaming, right? You can't download the episodes to watch again later?

You know Netflix has a website that will answer your questions quicker than waiting for someone else to respond to this. Anyway, I can't remember the price but no, you can't download episodes.

Upside, inside out he's livin la vida loca, He'll push and pull you down, livin la vida loca
If still debating the titles, I'm liking "Red is the new Black" XD

Yes just streaming, $8 or so per month and you can't download obviously, but you can just rewatch it there later anyway.

Also, Netflix has month free trial for first time users IIRC, so use it.

Review of the first episode (some spoilers)

Watching the Daredevil series, it is difficult not to draw comparisons with the recent Christopher Nolan Dark Knight films. Daredevil, as conceptualised in this series, is based heavily off the 1980’s Daredevil comics penned by writer Frank Miller, who later went on to redefine Batman through Batman: Year One and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. These books were a significant influence on Nolan’s Batman films.

More than just sharing the Frank Miller DNA, it’s interesting to note how many cues Daredevil takes from The Dark Knight, specifically. This is a grounded, real world hero who operates in a tangible space. Every punch thrown in the film is felt and a punch is often not quite enough to take out an enemy in the world of Daredevil. Unlike most depictions of violence on TV, when facing an enemy, if Daredevil punches them he needs to keep on punching them until they stay down. This is a brutal, cold, and violent superhero series. And it’s absolutely captivating to watch.

Just as Daredevil owes a debt of gratitude to The Dark Knight, it also takes many cues from The Raid and The Raid 2. While the action scenes are rarely as visceral as either Raid films, the scenes feel just as real.

Daredevil is compelling, wonderful TV that will hopefully find an audience beyond fans of the Marvel superhero films. This is a dark, nuanced TV series that is worthy of a wide audience. Daredevil is utterly fantastic and demands that you use all of your senses while watching.

Do the Defenders without a supernatural character (Ironfist doesn't count) feels wrong. They should throw some Hannibal King, or Jennifer Kale up in there.

Nolan comparisons make me want to vomit. The trailer didn't feel anything like TDK to me, but I guess we'll see.

These guys are nobodies and their opinions mean little to me.
Damn. An opinion is an opinion, and a well-written opinion that concisely explains why the author enjoyed movie/book/show/etc is even better. Why does it matter if a site is known or not? It's the quality of the review that counts

The review is garbage though. Anybody here could have written that. Harry Knowles could have written that.

Why is that an issue? You know how many people here have game sites and blogs? I often trust GAF impressions over sites for indie games and such, and relatively they're nobodies compared to popular sites. It's the review that counts; outside of the typos, I thought the article did a good job at explaining why the show is enjoyable

I have a small game blog myself, so I guess I'm a bit more annoyed by comments like that

I think it's generally healthy to be suspicious of obscure sites that get their hands on shows and are able to write reviews before any professional critic is able to comment.

Most professional reviewers (and reporters) are only professional because they receive a monthly paycheck but that's none of my business.
