Nintendo Direct: new presentation on April 1st

You guys know that Nintendo's shown Zelda trailers at events like GDC right? It wouldn't be out of the question.

Still, surprised to see so many alleged Nintendo fans here actually seem to support the idea of Nintendo not releasing a new trailer.

This is like standup comedy.

They're not going to show the game right after an announcement video that they will not be showing the game and it's delayed.

Maybe a Direct at the end of the year or something.

So, my predictions for the rest of the year:

May - Kirby, Splatoon
June - Yoshi
July -
August - Devil's Third
September - Mario Maker
October - Fatal Frame, Xenoblade
November - Star Fox
December - Animal Crossing

I could see Devil's Third joining another game and releasing Sept-Nov, but that'd leave two months empty, or even three for NA seeing they're getting Yoshi later.

I still think we're going to get Animal Crossing. Especially seeing as Mario Maker is all the way in September. They're going to have one major brand out for Christmas.

I think Xenoblade will be December. If this year at all.

Fatal frame was the only thing that excited me pretty dissapointed tbh. I hope we see something more at E3 that excites me.
With Zelda delayed Im prob not getting a WiiU this year either, was Fatal frame for EU too or just US?

Edit:AAlot of ppl seem excited is it because of 3DS games or did I miss something for WiiU?

The only bad thing about this direct was a release schedule that indicates that we won't get any big Nintendo games aside from Starfox and hopefully Xenoblade X for this holiday season. I also hope that Animal Crossing is not their big holiday game for 3DS...

This direct was... Amaziiiiiing!
- yoshi amiibo! Cuteness overload! I hope they won't sell out!
- new fire emblem looks amazing. If I would change anything I would developed it in HD for WiiU. Just imagine... Ohhhhh :0. And maybe they will be taking the same route as pokemon games with 2 factions now.
- MK8 200cc. Nuff said. F-zero dead for sure (joke :p)
- splatoon (amiibos *.*) that squid!
-Even attack on titan is getting localized :0 shame it's e-shop only. :(

E3 is gonna be huge man.

This was a Nintendo Direct, not E3.

SMTxFE finally turned up and it looks pretty cool. Plus Yoshi is coming in June for EU, and the yarn amiibo's are adorable.

And yes Fatal Frame was shown for EU as well.

But yeah the new Fire Emblem for 3DS looks ace, that's not till 2016 though.

Splatoon and Mario Marker are the only games for me this year, maybe Star Fox too.

What a disappointing year. The Wii U is starting to die now it seems :(

Gawd dayum this Direct was goddamn fantastic.

Highlights for me:

  • FE x MegaTen looks badass. Anime as hell. Day 1.
  • Fire Emblem If also looks sweet.
  • Fatal Frame WiiU localization confirmation

Doll direct? Idk if this was in the Japanese stream or not?

Wtf's a doll direct? I'm assuming a whole direct dedicated to Xenoblade? What's the doll thing though?

There's just as many games as other years. Them not appealing to you has nothing to do with the Wii U dying.

Dolls are the mechs. They've already done videos on the world and battle system, mechs are up next.

Direct was too late in the evening for me, so, is my understanding correct that the only decent thing they've shown for 3DS was the new Fire Emblem trailer?

Anything else (for 3DS) I should know about? I'm kinda disappointed with this direct.

No big game announcements, but I'm pretty excited about the MK/Smash updates and the new footage of previously announced stuff. Considering E3 isn't far, I thought it was very solid direct!

I really like the look of BoxBoy, though I can imagine if you don't.

smt x fe happening sort of out of the blue after two years of silence was pretty big. that's the sort of thing i would have expected for e3 to be honest.

What about Super Mario 30th anniversary?

Didn't Iwata said there will be more things related to that along the way? Or was that part in regards to Mario Maker, will have to watch the Direct again after work.

Anyway it seems we will be getting most Mario titles on virtual console.

What Mario Sunshine though? GCN virtual console? HD remaster?

Maybe a completely new title? I doubt that since Mario Maker is coming on September.

Excited anyway.

PS: Now that topic about Zelda releasing next year for the series 30th anniversary makes more sense. I can see it, a new four swords online and cross-play Wii U / 3DS incoming.

This Direct certainly was a good one. The SMT x FE trailer looked great, Project Zero comes to Europe, Mario Kart DLC already in April, Splatoon right on point for my birthday, and the Yoshi releasedate rumors were true.
Also, dat Yoshi wool amiibo!

What pleased me the most were probably the release dates and the knowledge that i get SMT & Project Zero.

Edit:
Also kinda funny, my SO asked if Nintendo hates money and why they waited 30 years to release something like Mario Maker :D

Shit, I missed the Mewtwo deal for registering both games :(

Not too thrilled about DLC costumes for Smash, and missions being locked behind Amiibos in Splatoon, but everything else shown is pretty much golden !

Is Nintendo going to show Yoshi, Mario Maker and XCX AGAIN at E3? We've known about those since a while. What are they going to add to that? Star Fox and FExSMT? (Very niche) They need at least 2 other important games.

Expected and saw:
  • Mewtwo for Smash
  • Mario Kario DLC pack 2
  • More Splatoon, now with amiibos - I was already sold on Splatoon. Now I may get the amiibos too, even though I'm more of less trying to ignore them.
  • Yoshi spotlight
  • Xenoblade 3D trailer
  • Indie sizzle reel
  • Boxboy! - Again, was already going to get this. Great to see though.
  • Puzzles and Dragons - Still unclear about whether this has in game purchases. If it's standalone, will get it.

Unexpected and awesome:
  • Mii Plaza expansion - I haven't gotten the previous streetpass games yet, but it's cool to see Nintendo is still paying attention to this.
  • Lucas, more smash DLC - Pls give me Ice Climbers and Snake and take all my money
  • N64 and DS Virtual Console - Awesome news, but underwhelming launch.
  • 200cc Mario Kart - Amazing.
  • Codename STEAM usability update - Look like they're addressing the biggest complaint.
  • FE x SMT still existing - this might be what finally gets my foot in the door of the SMT universe.
  • Never Alone coming to the eshop, that's pretty cool. I may get don't starve for Wii U instead of PC because of the purchase bonus.
  • YARN YOSHI CUTEST AMIIBO EVER.

Expected and nowhere to be found:
  • New wave of Wii Releases on eshop - With Kirby coming to EU, and so many other title out there, a little surprising they're not playing this up more.
  • Major highlight for Affordable Space Adventures, rather than just a sizzle clip. Shocking because Nintendo should be treating this as a high profile game, on the same tier as Shovel Knight. It has a great team, great premise, and is 100% designed for the Wii U.
  • More info for Xenoblade X

Overall, extremely good direct. It seems like they're focusing on 1) building sustainable communities (driven by a DLC trickle) for their big multiplayer games (and working to get Splatoon into that class). 2) Focusing on expanding Amiibo types and functionality. 3) Building on unique assets like Virtual Console and Streetpass. In particular, I thought it was cool to see how Amiibo Tap worked as a cross promotion of Amiibo and Virtual Console. And to see the difference the FE DLC is this time around.

My expectation (or perhaps hope) is that these are all signs of a growing and cross-pollinating Nintendo Ecosystem, building around current assets like Miis, Amiibo, the Virtual Console, Miiverse, and Street Pass, but to ultimately include QoL, smartphone apps, and some kind of ranking/achievement integration. As they continued toward a more common architecture, we'll continue to see more of these types of interactions.

GAF really didn't like the SMT x FE trailer, huh? Is there even a thread for it? I thought it looked pretty interesting myself.

I think it's cause they were promised "Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem", and what they got was "Persona x Fire Emblem"

Personally, it's the character design that put me off.
If I didn't saw Pegas mount, I wouldn't have know the girl was a Pegasus knight.
I mean, even the outfit job class were not representative of Fire Emblem for example.

Pretty much, this really has little to do with SMT.
I don't like it nor do I hate it. I have to see more actual gameplay before feeling anything. I don't let the game's introduction cutscene make me buy a game.

[*]Puzzles and Dragons - Still unclear about whether this has in game purchases. If it's standalone, will get it.
Z does not have any. I think Mario will not either. The IAPs were mostly there because it was free to play.

I literally had no idea what the trailer was. It was such a long trailer, completely in Japanese, depicting bizarre things I could not make heads or tails of. At the conclusion of the trailer Iwata says thank you for being patient and I thought he meant for sitting through the trailer.

When he said it was SMT x FE I couldn't believe it.

This has probably been asked, but is the Splatoon treehouse segment available for replay anywhere? Didn't see anything on Nintendo's site, youtube, or twitch...

I'm looking forward to Splatoon, but eh kinda still looking a little light on content (unless there's still much more to be revealed. Two online modes? Ehh.. Is this expected to be a $60 game, or are the cheaper prices that have been seen in Europe indicative of a possible U.S. $40 or $50 MSRP...
There are more than two online game modes. They have two general modes, Regular Battle and Ranked Battles. Ranked is gonna have more modes. Splatzones is just one of the modes.
I'd like to know too :(
