Seriously though, do they hire the same studio for the CG animation? It moves and looks almost exactly same as FEA's CGs.

Probably? Kamikaze Douga is a known quality in the industry now as a CG animation studio who can do celshaded stuff really well. Other than Awakening they also worked on the great looking FFT PSP FMVs, the promo CG stuff for Dragon Quest, the CG OPs for the new Jojo anime, etc. They also made the CG FMVs for the recent Vita Digimon game.

Edit: Oh, I forgot they also did the opening and CG FMVs for Persona PSP. So both Atlus and Intelligent Systems has worked with them before.

One could make an argument for looking more like Persona than SMT, but as I've agreed elsewhere, it has more of a Devil Survivor vibe overall (though they're both technically under the Megami Ibunroku banner anyway). That said, quite removed from mainline SMT all the same, even if I never expected it to be even close to as dark if the collaboration actually existed.

foxuzamaki

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
As far as visual goals, I honestly think this looks really good, similar looking games on the PS3/vita and 3DS dont actually often look as good and certainly almost never as detailed and with many effects, this reminds me of the actual JRPGs that actually used a budget last gen on the PS3 and 360 actually

I'm not actually that familiar with FE. The only IS games I like are Pushmo/Crashmo... Are those actual characters or like, monsters from FE?

Am I a bad person if I'm hoping Hito-shura appears as a male idol?
It should be boy idol group with a cast from SMTs mainline games.

*FE comparisons*

Oh, thanks, that clears a lot of stuff up. So what are the odds that this is some... construct reality built out of elements of FE's world? I wonder if there'll be actual FE party members in this case.

But that aside, I just noticed in one of those pics that there's a TURN ORDER BAR at the top of the screen in battles. I'm so fucking excited now lolololol.

Do you know how SMT turns random Japanese gods into Astro Boy or Kikaider look a likes? Or takes some random western European monster and turning it into a rubber suit alien thing? This game is doing that with human characters from Fire Emblem. That red motorcycle is based on a character from the first Fire Emblem (Cain, the Great Bull, a red armored cavalier). That dark colored pegasus/centaur monster is based on an enemy from FE: Awakening, a women who rode a black pegasus.

Surprise of the Direct for me. I was interested in the game but now I want it SO MUCH. Looks really cool. Never played a SMT or Persona game though but this reminded me of Persona 5's trailer a lot, with a dose of Fire Emblem though.

I can see the Persona similarities but they are pandering to "that" crowd waaaay too much....or least it was not wise to show it on the reveal trailer like that. Its really off putting.

My suspicion is that the main character is an actual lord displaced in time/soul or something. Because you can see that the "game" (I think that the things we see intially are a tease of a game within the game that slips into reality, think Star Ocean 3) somehow slips out into reality through him and around him with the "villains" showing up with lord-like assistants.

Then they nuke the world ala typical SMT, and your three friends represent the three orders of Law/Chaos/Neutral.

It's also pretty obvious that the main blue-haired dude is Marth, c'mon.

I just create a joke to my friend that Atlus would be the first company the make rip-off game of their own series lol
This is just too much to the point I'm suspecting that there is executive meddling on Nintendo part. Or perhaps really what IS want all along. Either way, Atlus take no objection to it.

After getting over the extreme J-Pop in the trailer...I may be down with this. But the scantily clad anime ladies still turns me off a good deal.

I think anime is just another word for "thing I don't like," similar to hipster.

Well apparently we're meant to gloss over the incorrect usage and divine the meaning of the word purely from context, so looking at this thread you'd be 100% correct in saying that it has become a meaningless short hand for "things I dont like" Its hilarious that people are suggesting everyone "totally means the same things" when they say somethings too anime because various people expanding on what they meant have complained about generic "moe-blob" tropes while others have complained about "ecchi" stuff and others about typical Jump style shonen adventure stuff. Never mind the implict assertion that "stuff I like" is only at the fringes of anime while stuff I dislike is "all the way in" at "too anime". Its as stupid as it is lazy.

Yeah that makes sense. But then there's also idol stuff with actual characters. It feels like a really weird unnatural modern world setting "created" from the shards of FE.

Maybe both Nintendo and Atlus realised that they should ape Persona instead of SMT because, you know, Persona sells better.

Have no idea how it will play, the nearest reference I got it looks like Sakura Wars gameplay wise? Can someone enlighting me? Not familiar at all with modern SMT or Persona.

They likely concluded that the more anime-inspired sensibilities associated with things like Devil Survivor and modern Persona would result in something with more mass appeal. Not necessarily wrong with Persona having since eclipsed traditional SMT in popularity.

It reminds me of people on a certain Dungeons and Dragons message board I frequented complaining about Tabletop RPGs they didn't like as "too videogamey". You could never nail down what that actually meant, since whenever you pointed out how broad and varied videogames were, they would always say "you know what I mean." Eventually you find out that every single person using the term had a different videogame in mind, and a lot of them hadn't ever really played videogames at all.

I'm turned off too but the ridiculousness of the whole premise of the game entice me lol

Yeah its the novelty of it all that has me intrigued. Its not the crossing over i was expecting, but it seems more than what I initially gleaned from the trailer.
But still...eugh. I'm gunna have to lock my door when I'm playing this game, cause some things you just can't explain.

I loved the visual style, and the song used is fantastic.
"Persona x FE" you say? Yeah, I'll definitely have me some of that come winter.

Looking at the Persona 5 trailer, they clearly went wrong somewhere in this inspiration.

I... am not sure how much they are actually idols. I think the battlefield just looks like a stage, kinda like the studio stages from Persona 4 or the stage battlefield from Paper Mario: the Thousand Year Door. It seems to be designed to evoke the feel of Fire Emblem characters fighting in an Arena, which has been a fairly constant thing in the franchise, except altered to fit the modern world setting.

I think the dungeon segments were labeled as Scenes and sets in the trailer too, so performance and acting is one of the major themes of the game a lot like television was in Persona 4.

Looking at 1:14 in the trailer, there's a "Session" combo bar and you see each of the four party members in battle attacking in sequence. The turn order bar also seems to group enemy and player teams together rather than splitting them. Could battle system be team based instead of individual character turn based? Say, you group characters together in a team, and that team always acts together each turn?

I'm talking about all the advertising in the game for Tiki as an idol with her posters everywhere.

This is pretty awesome news to wake up to :) Never in a million years would have guessed this would come out somewhere in 2015.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
The city is the overworld?

I think it will be, and there's a place at that flashes at the beginning at ~0:35 that looks like a dungeon. Between that and the camera when they show that city I'm hoping for some Nocturne/DDS style exploration.

Yeah, I don't think it's 100% turn-based. Looks like a strategy team battle hybrid.

Not sure how you guys pulling Persona from this trailer either, there's teenager walking around modern town and that its?

I kinda thought that was a movie poster.

This really looks like a world where a modern world is being intruded upon by a fantasy universe filled with Fire Emblem elements. There seems to be a split between the "normal", and things that have been affected by this intruding "abnormal". That Tiki stands out as something from the other side, as opposed to being native to the real world. On the other hand, most of the main characters seem to be normal Tokyo residents who are borrowing power from that other world.

There are also a few scenes that look like Social Link sequences. Also, the Fire Emblem stuff kinda looks like how Personas look and are used for attacking in the Persona series. There is a very strong resemblance to some of the set-up, themes, and presentation of Persona 4.

I am OK with that, but the lack of Kaneko art is off putting...

There's also the stuff with maybe!Lyn singing to a microphone at forty seconds in and the fact that you can see people banging those glowing light sticks in the background of the battle arenas. It's obvious they are going with an idol theme for this.

Whoever said it that it's idols wasn't far off. On further investigation, the party seems to be labeled as "Artists", plus with the audience in the battle, and the combo counter reading "Session". I'm pretty sure it's along those lines. Also, Elthunder action there along with the "Weak!" indicator. Honestly, the more I analyze this trailer, the more it really is very SMT motif, with the monster design and how they transformed the FE characters. Plus the modern setting being another SMT trademark.

That is as much SMT as it can get.
