Illusory Revelations#FE (SMTxFE) - First Trailer, Winter 2015 [Up: Screenshots]

When characters are done and enganging is important with the gameplay, why wouldn't it count as gameplay talk? Gameplay and isn't mutually exclusive especially in any RPG. If you believe Persona only have waifu, your selective attention must be that great.

For the millionth time, I DO NOT believe Persona only have waifus!! I DO NOT believe that Atlus make dating sim element available because they want to pander to anyone. I play persona since the original and I do not care about waifus at all!! What I said is that Persona get mainstream popularity because of the dating sim element(and more main stream art style which you people ignore that I mentioned again again and again)
Is it that difficult to not to twist my opinion?

I look at the trailer of this game, and just can wonder, why.

Who is this game trying to appeal to? it doesn't seem that similar to Fire Emblem , or similar to Megami Tensei, most of the fanbase for both series are confused, or even dont like it at all.
Maybe it appears like Persona, and thats the point, but even then it seems different enough for some people.

What everybody was expecting was probably a "safe" crossover, some type of SRPG on a post apocalyptic setting with more realistic characters and fan favorites, but Nintendo, Atlus and Intelligent Systems came up with this concept, why not do just that crossover and leave it at that? wouldnt a game with the two series be more appealing globally, than an anime rpg about music idols?

It seems like a project they, the developers, wanted to make just because, and who knows, Hyrule Warriors was seen with contempt by everybody when it was revealed, before becoming one of the most popular and well recieved Wii U titles, so it could end up very good, but this reveal really shocked everybody.

"Sharp FE" or "Sharp Fire Emblem" also sound bloody daft. That's almost 358/2 Days level bad.

No idea why it can't just be "Illusory Revelations" with no stupid subtitle.
Eh, doesn't bother me any more than when it was used as the reading for Guilty Gear XX: #Reload. One can at least follow the music theme logic with using "sharp" for those (idols with #FE, rock with #R). "358 Days over 2" always sounded nonsensical.

I always pronounced it "358 by 2 days".

Edit: Just for fun, with regard to #FE, I would like to point out that F and E are conveniently notes.

Anybody who was paying attention knew day 1 that it wasent going to be a srpg, it was simply stated to be a rpg, what people were wondering is what kind and how they would go about it.

If by big you mean one or two additional scenes for 5 of the 12 social links, then yes, it's big.

At that point, I'd say Mass Effect is a bigger dating sim than Persona is.

Don't you also date that one girl at Social Link 8 or so in P4 and can get the extra scenes with her?

That'd make 6 out of 12, half the social links.

Also consider the age of the characters in question. In Persona it's adolescents in a high school setting so relationships are a bigger deal, not to mention slightly more relatable to the players, than a 30 or so year old Soldier during an intergalactic conflict.

No to mention that in Persona it's far less optional than in Mass Effect. Pursuing Social Links brings boni in the game so if you just play it for that you'll still get to the point where you're prompted about getting in a relationship. In Mass Effect you get the loyalty mission which is far less of a boni until the final mission and doesn't automatically prompt a relationship.

Well... a lot of the thread at first was "HUH" reactions.

That's one of the best marketing strategies.

I guarantee you that the trailer was specifically made to make people go "wtf?". This "mystery" game is now all over the place and people have no idea what in the hell it actually is or was...

Jeez 60 pages on this. This could be a big game for Nintendo.

No, no. Just a very controversial reveal leading to a lot of discussion (a fair bit of which has been off topic).

Apparently, SE wanted it to be read as 358 Days over 2. Not having kept up with Kingdom Hearts, I have no idea why.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_Hearts_358/2_Days

I usually try and respect how the creators want things pronounced (i.e. Teedus), but in this case I'll avoid tripping on my words when verbally saying it lol and stick with my own pronunciation.

I don't know if that was a good idea for this kind of thing because most of them were "I'm limp now" equivalents for those who were mega hyped.

And by god it works. It got the anime crowd attention just by the power of gifs.

The overall focus on idols as a theme does seem pretty odd, but the game does have guest characters from FE shown in that first trailer. They just didn't receive much focus, which is why most people don't even seem to notice any of them in a first watch.

Marketing is about spreading the word. Doesn't matter if your reaction is good or bad, you're still exposing the brand by getting people talking about it. Last week SMTxFE was effectively vaporware for most people, now its a 60+ page on GAF, its on reddit, its on IGN, its all over the place with people trying to figure out wtf they just saw.

Sharp F E refers to musical notation.

Oh god it's going to be a DDR game or something.
/ssss.

This isn't the sort of discussion that sells games. For instance, I fell off the Sharp FE hype train and broke something... probably my heart, or a leg. It'll be a while before I can get back on.

Yeah, I'm not sure word of mouth is enough. You look at the Souls games and word of mouth did it wonders because the people that were talking about it were singing praises, but with this, there's a lot of negativity and skepticism mixed in with the optimists. This game, as we've seen it so far, will sell very few copies, most likely.

That comes later. First you have to spread the word. I said marketing, not advertising.

The more I think about it, the more it does seem like an odd hybrid of recent iterations of Persona 4 with FE: Awakening.

The revealing armor was not really a part of FE until Awakening, and the SMT inspired games up until I want to say Catherine have generally avoided sexing up their main characters.

Especially when Kazuma Kaneko was at the helm of character design. Kaneko's approach was totally different with the demons, but the demons tended to straddle something between sexy and cold (Lilith, Arachne) or just outright blatantly wrong (Mara, Incubus).

But, the P4: Dancing All Night marketing for that new girl, some of the P4G additions. FE If with the armor designs taking a similar direction as Awakening...

Hmm! Again.

Nah, I don't know about that. If the game actually turned out to be all idol superstar, happy-go-lucky gladiator J-pop battles with high school and Fire Emblem cameos, I think that would still sell remarkably well for a Wii U game. There are a lot of people here who are pretty excited for what they saw in the trailer.

But, obviously, there's more to the game than what's been presented solely for the facet of a post-apocalypse landscape that only briefly appears in the trailer.

I think you misunderstand. This sort of discussion is going to pop up in every thread from now 'til release. Codename: FE x SMT poisoned the well in the worst way possible, due to the expectations it creates.

Eeeeh, if you say so, but I just don't see it. I feel this has reached quite the niche appeal. Even in the minority of the internet crowd that it's being met with less enthusiasm then some other niche things. I feel like my optimistic and excitable posts in this thread make up for half the positive posts in this thread alone, so I'm not sure there's really all that many people super excited about it.

Its hasn't poisoned the well any more than the sudden shift has gotten completely uninterested people interested. All this was was marketing, getting people talking and getting word out.

Obviously Nintendo is going to be bundling this with a red WiiU + P5
(port) and The Last Guardian 2
.

There are more people out there than just on NeoGAF.

Well I can't argue with that but still that's beside the point. In no version of the English language is the # symbol read as "hashtag". It's just "hash". Twitter has ruined everything.
You are sadly mistaken. Whether you believe it has "ruined" anything or not, Twitter has modified the English language in several ways. Hashtag and tweet are part of the language, whether you like it or not.

Fortunately, it really doesn't matter if anyone likes it. I actually love it when people are upset by the evolution of a language. That anger is really an uncomfortable realization that language isn't prescribed and that the rules people love are to describe language use, not to control it.

Yeah, but the reactions in here are the same as most reactions elsewhere. There's a passionate group, but I feel the audience is likely pretty small atm.

I think most barely know enough stuff about the game to care at this point. Let's atleast wait til we start getting alot of info on it and understand how the battles work, etc. I'm excited for it, but we don't really have much to go off right now.

I agree, I was just saying based on what has been shown so far the reactions don't inspire confidence in huge sales to me because someone thinks the fact that this thread has 60 pages is a good sign this game could be a big success.

Or GTA IV.

Let's start calling Alpha Protocol a dating sim. And man, those Danganronpa and Binary Domain dating sims sure are something.
Come on.
You spend the majority of your time in Persona managing stats and dialogue in order to build relationships with people.

It's a fucking dating sim. People need to come to terms with this.

It isn't a life sim because nothing you do affects your "life." There are very few life consequences: can you get a good test score (which ultimately only affects your relationships and 2-3 unimportant items) and can you eat certain foods. The main consequence to your actions is your relationships. You can date half the people you build these relationships with. Some that you can't date still have sexual undertones. Hermit in P3 and Devil in P4 as examples.

Nah, we should know by now whats the fate of niche releases on Wii U. look at Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101 , Fatal Frame, Kirby and next Xenoblade.

If this was on 3DS then it could be a different story.

The part I bolded is what makes you sound like an idiot for calling Persona a dating sim.

No, I'm pretty sure I spent most of my time dungeon crawling, fusing Personas, and watching established story cutscenes in which optional relationships had no bearing. And is that the definition of a dating sim? Even if you don't date anyone?

I spent the majority of my time in Mass Effect talking to people and selecting dialogue wheels. Let's call it a visual novel.

I have to wonder if that is an actual stadium with real people cheering on the fight or if its for a dungeon and those are "shadows".

The possible plot has me interested.
They certainly dont look like people tho

So you're saying it won't sell very well either.

Hmm I can already see it
use FE amiibo of your choice to "fuse" with your characters/unlock new demons etc.

This reminded me of something I thought about a lot before the reveal on Wednesday: Will they bother with exclusive amiibo for this game? I wouldn't mind one of the protagonist or something.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???

You're godamn right they better make some amiibo with this!

I'll buy the whole lot!
