***UPDATE***

They released an updated version of the demo in all-regions, too.

Also: video showing the speed up option from the update.

I was prompted to update my demo and I didn't even have to go into the eShop to update it, so even if it was simply downloading a new build of the entire demo, my system still properly treated it like an update.

Pretty much my biggest complaint addressed. Thank you, Abe Lincoln, President of Earth, King of Mars, D.D.S

I almost feel like outlets should re-review this game, with how much this featured as a minus.

In case anyone in Europe is wondering: no, it's not out here. I wonder if we have to wait till post-launch.

Looks like the update hasn't been pushed to the eShop page for the game. To get it go the Menu in the upper left corner and select Settings/Other. Then select Updates to get the list of updates for games you have on your account. The Code Name Steam update will be listed.

I would imagine after noon EST or maybe even tomorrow when the eShop updates the update will be pushed and listed for all to easily see. At the moment the game itself doesn't recognize it exist and games normally do alert you that an update is available when you go launch them.

The update is tiny as well. Only 27 blocks. Ugh I wish they'd use real file size numbers.

Does it speed up the animations for when the enemies actually attack you too? Because that would be kind of balls. The problem with the enemy turns is the time spent looking directly at a wall or absolutely nothing of interest, that's the part that needs skipped.

I hope you feel the same about games like Bloodborne.

bloodborne is a lot faster.. and even then.. this is a different kind of game, one in which I have to sit and wait doing nothing for minutes until the enemy finishes, this patch addresses a complaint from everyone, that never happened to bloodborne

It's a nice thought, but if reviewers had to re-review a game every time a patch was released, they'd do nothing but re-review games. It's nice that developers patch their games, but they should do some more focus-testing and similar things pre-launch to find these issues earlier.

Well the point is, it's weird seeing some games with several issues getting "free passes" from the media and some getting panned for it.

I guess par for the course though.

It's good that this game is getting "fixed" and Bloodborne and others' problems getting addressed even if it's "after the fact".

Yes, but of course they won't. They never re-review Nintendo games no matter how much better they get with patches.

Rereviews are very rare anyway. Nintendo doesn't get special treatment for this. They decided Codename steam was good enough as they shipped it to reviewers. It's nintendos problem that they never considered it beforehand.

You seem to be forgetting the load times in Bloodborne.

out next month right? wonder if the patch will be applied to game game just in time before going gold here, has it gone gold here yet?

Well yeah I've had it for review for like two weeks now. I'm holding off until the patch hits. Unless it doesn't go live before launch. I don't think they've even confirmed the patch for Europe...

The problem is that when you are playing Bloodborne the load times are a problem but they can be avoided for quite a while. I played an hour yesterday and only saw the load screen twice. With Codename Steam you had to deal with the excessive turns every single time you played a level. I do think it would have reviewed even better without the long turns but most places don't re-review a game when it gets a patch. Most likely bloodborne will have a comment about the long load times on reviews even if they reduce them.

Obviously the update is only out in the US since the game isn't out anywhere else until mid-May.

Does it work for the demo?

Of course not. How would a game update work for the demo?!

Why would they need to? It'll be a day-1 download for EU/AU/JP.

you review what's in the box. they released a flawed game, they got reviews that a flawed game would get. They did right by consumers by reviewing it that way.

or maybe they shouldn't have released a slow fucking game in the first place
It's not out everywhere yet. But when Europe finally gets it, and if it comes with the patch, we'll have all of these early reviews bitching about things that are not actually problems, and that'll discourage us from buying the game.

That's true, but people who buy the game now get a better game, and because reviews are static, there are few ways for them to know that this is the case. I think there is room to update reviews for the benefit of the consumer.

Most places do put a note on the original review for changes like this but they don't usually redo the whole review. Honestly they should have delayed the US release if this is how they wanted the game to be originally. I really wonder how no one told them it would be a huge problem to leave it as is.

It would be reasonable to allow reviewers to download a patch before day one so that they can play a better game and give it a more favourable review, don't you think?

Then again, it's Nintendo, so I'm not exactly expecting anything reasonable.

As some one who owns and enjoys both games.. Comparing the Bloodborne load times with the S.T.E.A.M. enemy turn times is hilariously off base. You will get that turn wait time, maybe 20-30 times in an hour.. thats nearly half the time spend waiting ( its not really that bad, but its almost that bad.. ), vs. a single loading screen every time you warp or die ( which will be between 0 and maybe 10 times max in an hour ).

Not even close dude!

You can't avoid its other issues(framerate stuttering for example) but that's for another topic.

It's just interesting that someone posted "you review what's in the box" when there have been many instances where that didn't happen.

I bought this yesterday. I thought the demo was *great.* I didn't even mind the enemy turns but hey, this is cool.

Fuck that. The ubiquity of patches has already made publishers a lot more willing to rush games to market. At this point the only thing keeping them even slightly honest is that they might get some critical reviews that'll stay on Metacritic long after they release the patch that fixes them. Okay, Nintendo are usually pretty good about only releasing their games when they're ready, but you can't have one rule for them and other for the Ubisofts and EAs of this world.

I wonder if reviews will be amended, since this seemed to be the biggest universal knock against the game.

Who says the game wasnt ready? People complained so they made a change.

Valkria Chronicles didnt have a speed up option and no one said a word.

I haven't actually had any problems with the stuttering like some folks so that's probably whats behind that more than anything but everyone will encounter the turn speed problem.

Actually a simple google search shows people complaining about VC having long enemy turns.

Well, I've not played it myself yet, but people seemed to be suggesting that this patch was a big deal that would undoubtedly have affected the reviews if it was available at launch.

I'm not knocking Bloodborne really as I told my brother to get it(he wouldn't have even cared or noticed it as while he has a PS4---got it as a gift---he doesn't game much anymore), I just hate the inconsistency of reviews.

Even seemingly fabulous games like Skyrim are messy yet it doesn't seem to affect their reviews yet so and so game gets taken down for such and such "issues".

But then again if you dwell too much on reviews, you are doing it wrong anyway.

Should've done that after everyone complained about it in the demo. The game was sent to die (critically) .
