Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

Kind of wish there was a small playable area for this.

The art looks full 2D but then in the FAQ he mentiosn it will be 2.5D done in Unreal 4....

Oh well, backed anyway.

Content exclusive to physical edition? No digital pack with soundtrack? Why?

Game looks quite interesting, but Kickstarter isn't about donations, it's about product, and in this case the premise of the product is sorely lacking for me.

All subject to changes if they update the thing of course.

Never backed a kickstarter before, this one is looking really tempting though.
Will the physical copies of the game only be available to backers? That'll probably get me to back, if not I can just wait.

That Michiru Yamane sample is beautiful. First time I'm pledging for a physical edition in a Kickstarter campaign. I need that slipcase.

Also, kinda happy to see that they addressed Ayami Kojima's absence in the FAQ. It's like they know exactly what IGAvania fans want! I'm hyped for this.

2.5d in UE4 is kind of dissappointing, was hoping for some awesome pixel art. Oh well.

Awesome, hope this turns out well. Disappointing that the kickstarter-exclusive content only comes with the physical copy.

Could that mystery stretch goal, that has to be unlocked, a handheld and/or a Wii U version? I'm so used to play my Metroidvanias on Nintendo handhelds.

UE4? That seems a little bit too much for a 2.5D game. Unity would cover handhelds, too. And I guess the resulting game would not really be worse.

If you enjoyed SotN or any of the GBA / DS igavanias I'm fairly convinced there is no way that this could possibly be disappointing.

The concept mockups of the gameplay looks a bit flat though like a flash game, I hope the game has a more pixel art type of style to it by the end. The actual character sketches and concept art looks fantastic to me.

That main theme though, it's fucking wonderful.

It seems they're hinting at 1,000,000+ for Nintendo console support. I'm sure they'll hit it but I can't donate without that. Really odd to say that considering the money they're pissing away on a backer-only retail version.

I'll be throwing cash at this. Holy shit at having BOTH the sound designer of Castlevania (Michiru Yamane) as well as the sound designer of Megaman (Ippo Yamada) involved!

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
To those who are puzzled by the Nintendo comment: the image used for the stretch goals is a castle, and the comment says "there could be a treasure hidden in the basement of the castle". So, yeah, there are probably Nintendo stretch goals waiting to be unveiled whenever the current ones are reached.

This is kind of bullshit. With the news that this will be 2.5D we already know that the final game won't look all that similar to the concept art. I don't want this to be another MN9 situation, but from the limited news we have on it, it already feels like it.

No Nintendo at all feels kind of wrong too. I mean, in the end I would have picked the PC or PS4 version either way, but since the last 6 Igavanias were on Nintendo handhelds it just feels weird to leave Nintendo out completely. The Unreal reasoning makes sense, of course, and I wouldn't know whether or not Unity would be a good replacement.

Anyway, backing this for sure. Not sure yet if I'm going for the physical edition, though. I don't really like backing Kickstarters that don't show any gameplay at all anymore (and I'm kind of disappointed that weren't able to pre-produce something).

"WHAT ABOUT NINTENDO?

Our budget left us with two options: Build the biggest, most beautiful game we can, or make sure it runs everywhere from the start. As things stand today, we can't afford to create the two separate versions of this game that would be necessary to make it run on every console. That said, we've heard legends about a remarkable treasure hidden in the castle basement..."

What is that last part about

can't announce nx until e3

I dont see issues with the game being 2.5D to save money. I think Abyss Odyssey while being low budget it looks nice and its all about how the concept art transfers to the 3D World.

They didn't make Mighty no.9 look like it's concept art in 2D...

Something like that lol

It was worse than just that -- The final game looks absolutely hideous (IMO). That's kind of where the backlash comes from. I backed MN9 but completely lost all my interest and enthusiasm as I saw the game progress to its near final form.

In for the $125 tier. I'm putting my money where my mouth is, I've been waiting too long for a new Igavania.

Everyone in the Konami vs Kojima threads wondering how to support the MGS team ... I can't think of a better way than by throwing your full support behind another Konami graduate to show that independence is a viable path for the future. If this kickstarter is a successs, I can only imagine it would be a ray of hope for the hard working creatives currently in the Konami dungeon.

As soon as I get home from my final exam I am dropping $60! Only because I just bought Shadow Hearts From the New World this morning! Otherwise it would be at least $100!

The concept art is meaningless, the game will be 2.5D on UE4, it won't resemble it at all.

So

- 2D concept art that will probably put people's expectations too high
- Video produced by 2 Player Productions
- Developed by Inti Creates
- By video game producer who people praise a shitton for some reason
- Kickstarter started at a time where everyone hates what the publisher of the original franchise has become

Just saying, we've been through this before.

Not that it'll be a bad game, even Mighty No. 9 is decent (though disappointing). But don't set your expectations too high.

Yep, and I can't wait for MN9. :D

Haven't played an Igavania game I didn't like, so see no reason not to be excited for another one. Especially when he's free of Konami's shackles and has something to prove to the industry.

Kind of off topic but sort of on-topic. When you put money towards a KS are you billed immediately? Never put money towards a KS but i am tempted to throw money towards that grimoire perk

I'm confused why the video includes him torturing a person. That seems like an odd choice even if he's going all in on the "I'm a vampire" thing in the video.

Backed hard.

I like that they are going with a single high-end UE4 version as the base goal.

I'd honestly much rather have some 2.5D in UE4. Pixel art is getting extremely tiresome.

UE4 is a much better engine than Unity. Period.

Keep it sprite based Inti. Keep it Sprite based.

Edit: It's gonna be 3D? Well then. Immitate Abyss Odyssey as much as you can Inti.

I have no issue if it's 2.5D and looks similar to:
