NPD Sales Results for April 2015 [Up1: Xbox One #1]

Absolutely shocked Xbox pulled a W for April and utterly disappointed Bloodborne already dropped out of top 10. What an odd NPD month.

Didnt one of the retailers have a trade in promotion of US$175 trade in towards an XBO?

Edit: forgot how fast these threads move

Gamestop did from what I've seen people say.

That may be a big contributing factor as well since it seems like one of Microsoft's biggest problems has been getting people to actually upgrade from their 360s.

The only explanation, the only one possible, is that there has been a full month of Halo MCC bundle. it's the only explanation, because PS4 even won software.

It's amazing, Halo is still very strong.

I'm curious. When NPD lists the order for platforms that a game sells most on, is that just for that month or is it overall?

Huh. Didn't see that Xbox win. Ouch at Wii U. Seems that Xenoblade did alright. Nice to see Smash back. Mewtwo is putting in some good work.

Xbox One had a $125 credit trade-in deal for last gen consoles, a bunch of gift-card/free game/free controller/free XBL bundles across multiple retailers. It's not terribly surprising it won.

Yup, the constant stream of Xbone fire sales and deals finally broke me. I picked one up from Best Buy and am currently enjoying the shit out of Sunset Overdrive so I'm not complaining.

A nice clean win this month for the XB1. Continued congrats to the team for working so hard to turn the ship around.

Curious to see how much they outsold the PS4.

First time XB1 has won in a non-holiday month, people had me convinced it could never happen. a couple more wins could probably mean that strong holiday sales might close and over take the gap in the USA.

Hm, the effect of Bloodborne hype was shorter than I thought. Sony ought to think again about releasing first party titles in Fall if they want to sell more than the competition in the US as Black Friday's big there.

With the major stuff like Uncharted 4, Ratchet & Clank, Street Fighter V and their VR headset all releasing early 2016 and Until Dawn, The Tomorrow Children, Journey and God of War in the summer, that's a lot of releases that won't hit during the holiday rush.

I'm cool with it as there's still Persona 5 hopefully and a lot of 3rd party releases anyway but from their perspective this will likely spur some reaction over the next month leading into E3. Which is great!

So.... Are we back to agreeing Bloodborne and Souls in general are niche games despite selling 1-2 million?

2 and 3 million sales ltd is pretty high to be called niche. i would go with mid tier or something like that

first party titles earlier in the year is very smart. let the big third party titles do the heavy lifting. they don't have to discount bloodborne for black friday and stuff just to get a higher number when they could be making more money per copy sold earlier in the year and keeps people talking about the ps4 all year along. plus they can bundle games and sell goty editions during black friday to get more sales.

Former 360 owners finally trading in their systems perhaps? I mean the ps4 is still $400, price drop wouldn't hurt, stop being greedy. You don't want all those 360 owners buying a x1 for halo

When you think about it, are you surprised that it's not selling? The game isn't for the masses.

No matter how many times we repeat that WiiU is dead, 43K are still depressing. Curious to see Splatoon's performance next month.

I think what this indicates is a dead heat in the US among PS4 and XB1 in regards to demand. WHich makes sense as MS for the most part has tried to bring the heat(outside of that preseason BS) These two consoles are gonna bob up and down over each other i think, sometimes XB1 will win, probably most of the time PS4 will win.

Glad they are doing well too. But its kind of surprising to see PS4 with the most sold games in April considering the higher sales of the XB1

I would agree with you if XB1 didn't have those trade in deals going on and there's wasn't a Batman bundle people would want to wait for.

Now i expect XB1 to win May too.
