Witcher 3 PC Performance Thread

I'm running the game at 5160x2160 maxed out (including hairworks but no CA or sharpening) and the game is around 45fps in open areas and can drop to 30s in certain scenes. It feels quite smooth though, even without locking fps to 30. Turning hairworks off immediately gains about 10fps. The game is a lot harder to run than I thought, especially based on its visuals.

GTX970 Everything maxed out except for foliage density and distance. HBAO + but Hairworks off. Hairworks really tank my performance. Runs very well at 60ish all the time.

Titan X (OC +200Mhz)
i7 2600K OCed to 4.6 Ghz

Running everything max at 4K

Just did first two fights after tutorial. Those battles have been capped at 30fps with occasional stutters to 26-27.

Cutscenes are normally where things start going down. Whenever the camera does zoom-ins on Geralt, fps drops down to low 20s.

Ignoring cutscenes aside, combat is playable as long as they dont throw in a humongous 20ft monster or 100 minions at once lol

Everything in ultra and Nvidia hair off.
Booo I want 60! Let the tweaking begin.

Gsync is the saviour for my gtx 780/i5 2500k. As long as i dont drop below 30 everything is very smooth. Playing on High with HBAO+ and no Hairworks. About 35-45 fps.

Yes, I do plan to get a new monitor when I have the orens

Not hitting 60 FPS at Ultra. This is kind of bugging me.

Sapphire R9 290 and amd am3 8320. Shadows medium, rest on high and textures on ultra. Also enabled hbao+.

Solid 60 with dips to the 45-50 in the starting village. I'll assume it will get worse later, but i wasnt even expecting to hit 60 at all with my shit cpu.

For the very, very, very few of us running CF AMD setups......

I'm running a 2500k @ 4.5 2x 7970s (1150/1650) and I get about 25-40 fps on Ultra with Hairworks off and SSAO. This is with the default CF and Witcher 2 profiles. It's definitely not working right as my gpus max out at 45% use on both....

Setting it to AFR friendly gives me 55-60fps but there's flickering everywhere.

Safe to say this game is not Crossfire ready so hopefully AMD will get a driver out soon, but we all know how well this goes. =/

EDIT: This is at 1080p.

Well, my first hour has me getting 4 crashes. The first 3 straight to the desktop. The third my audio dropped out for a couple minutes, then full crash.

Never had a problem with a big release like this before. First two crashes on previous drivers, second two on new game ready update.

Game runs beautifully on my 980 inbetween.

Annoyed though.

Anyone else getting what feels like loading stutter on cut scenes?, my GPU usage 70%ish and during gameplay all is fine, yet in cut scenes it seems to stutter each time it switches scenes.

Game is on a 480gb Vertex 460A SSD.
I'm getting it in cutscenes AND gameplay.

I've crashed to desktop twice, it's saying driver failed or something. Once during the first encounter of the game, and then the next cutscene. Also got some weird stuff happening. Some object like phase into view and some have white dots on them, not sure what the hell that is.

I have a 970, i5-3350p and have everything ultra and switched on, but locked to 30 fps. Seen it dip to 27 fps a couple times

Getting that loading stutter mentioned earlier too

This game ... looks awesome.
Loaded my Witicher 2 Save from 2013. Configured the settings so it runs at 40-60fps on my GTX770.
See you guys on the other side^^ I'm gone now. This game is something special. It's 3am but I don't care

High/1080p/30fps - Pretty steady so far. Ultra is unplayable. If I unlock the 30fps cap it hovers around 40fps.

I turned the hair stuff off and the game never drops below 60 FPS at 1080p. There is some fps flux but not at all noticeable due to gsync!

Yes. Hell the opening cinematic was stuttering for me.

In-game, it stutters when galloping. Stutters in battles are very minor

Everything on ultra except foliage distance and hairworks is off.

Getting a silky smooth 60 for the most part, but I hate playing with afterburner on because it's so ugly so I turned it off.

Figured as much, wonder how long we'll have to wait for AMD.

Hairworks was murdering my frame rate at 1440p/Ultra, especially during cutscenes. So, I turned it off and have yet to see it drop below 60fps (or 59fps with vsync for some odd reason). GPU usage is steady between 50-85% and the card is running relatively cool at 65C with a custom fan profile.

Btw, TW3 looks great for an open world game. Color[ful] palette aside, I'd say it's met my expectations. :)

My poor 680. At 1440p, my framerate often drops into the 20s at *medium* settings. At high with medium postprocessing, it often dropped into the mid-single digits.

At least the game looks good at medium (and has been stable with no crashes). Looks far better on high and ultra, but I just can't do it...

Played for about 2 hours. 1080p, all ultra settings except for no hairworks and foliage range set to high. A few little graphical "features" like CA turned off as well. HBAO+. Didn't drop below 60 fps once. No crashes. Was hoping I could downsample from 1620p, but it dropped the FPS to about 40-50, so I'll live with just 1080p.

3930k @ 4.6ghz

Really enjoying the game so far!

I am curious about this, my framerate read out reads a flat 60 when galloping, yet the camera studders rhythmically. It may be a camera jolt when riding the horse.

The non-engine cut scenes seem off. Sort of juddery. Reading them as 29 FPS which seems odd.

Oh well, at least they're not frequent. Though I do find it weird they'd record them at low framerate (aside from the obvious CGI ones).

Yeah, its kinda distracting. I wonder if they'll release proper fps versions.

Any impressions from non ti 780 users? I hope it can still do at least 30fps at 1080p with hairworks.

I haven't really done much so far but from the first few minutes it's not pretty. I set everything to high with hairworks off, HBAO on, and it runs in the mid 30s, running at 1440p.

If it's any consoltion though, the 30 FPS lock is smooth as silk, no judder or weird timing.

Here's what I don't get I have anice overclocked 780 and am at roughly the same settings as you but 1440p, SSao, no AA.
I get 45fps as well, but a 970 which my 780 usually trades blows with is getting 60 at ultra 1080p?

On a 780Ti here. I was mostly getting 60 FPS on 1440P with mediumish settings, but that soon got less frequent once the world opened up (makes sense I suppose). Have dropped down to 1080P now with medium settings and getting a mostly consistent 60FPS. Looks great.

Also, anyone know how to ship the cutscene when you load a new save file? It's interesting the first time, but less so subsequently.

specs: 3570k@4.6, 8gb ram, Titan X SC, installed on ssd, running windows 7

2160p was not really feasible with maxed out settings (except aa and sharpness filter), even with 30 fps cap. Frequent dips down to 20-25, especially when zoomed in on hair. It may be possible to do better without hairworks, but I did not try that.

1080p with maxed out settings (now with aa and sharpness filter) seemed to mostly hold 60 fps, but with semi-frequent dips down to 57-59 and less frequent dips down to 50 or so. Sadly, the game crashed after the first post-tutorial battle, so now I am back on gaf instead of playing the game ...

FlyinJ

Douchebag. Yes, me.
970 on an i5 @ 1080p

Everything on ultra, hair works on, locked the frame rate to 30. Very few drops other than pretendered movies which seem to be recorded at 25fps.

I have had 4 lock-up crashes in an hour though... Ugh.

Using the nvidia drivers released today.

I don't understand how these constant crashes and FPS/judder issues in cutscenes could have passed QA, if the patch is really to blame. I mean, I and many others who are complaining have pretty fucking standard builds, the kind of setup any game studio should be testing on ( Intel CPU + flagship nVidia cards).

CDPR has really, really disappointed with this one. I did not expect these kinds of issues from them. It's absolutely unacceptable and fucking despicable. The fucking crashing is making the game impossible to play and the cutscene judder is just annoying as fuck.
