Witcher 3 PC Performance Thread

I just made a Pinnacle profile for instant sign casting (hold RT + A/B/X/Y for the different signs) which also required changes in the input.settings file. Does anyone know if this file is changed after patch 1.04? I'm tempted to sit this one out, especially with reports of crashes and worse performance.

I think most titan x owners with an overclock get pretty much 60fps all the time. I know I do. Only slow downs are when the camera is forced into geralt's face by propping him against a wall or in a wolf encounter.

Also, 1.04 further improved my performance (although I really would like to have an option to make the text for pick ups smaller again).

Yes, smooth as butter for me. My Titan X is overclocked to around 1400 MHz

Oh yes I forgot about that, indeed the last few patches have definitely improved performance. I also forgot to stipulate that indeed oc'd Titan X will have more chance of achieving a locked 60fps.

No one else getting major glitching with explosions from blowing up nests? Grenade explosions are actually okay. But when nests blow up I get nasty black shapes everywhere. This is only since patch 1.04. Bloody annoying.

I have no idea why, but after updating to 1.04, any graphics changes I make are not saved, and the gamma is constantly turned all the way up. I made sure everything was set back to default, no dice.

I'm getting so frustrated with tweaking, should I just reinstall this game or something?

I do. I get weird graphic glitches all over the sky when nest or Rotfiend explodes, something that never happens before. Are you on SLI or single card?

Had my first computer crash with 1.04

I hope it's a coincidence...

i cant even boot my game up now. just instant crashes my driver.

Welp. Played about 20 hours before this patch and not a single crash, but 1.04 has crashed twice already.

Mine didn't crash in the last 2 or 3 hours I played with the new patch after having it crash every 15 minutes with the 1.03 patch. Seems incredibly random.

Do you guys have AMD or Nvidia cards? Please don't say AMD... I've played the 1.03 version without a single freeze or crash for over 30 hours now, just installed update 1.04 but I haven't tried it out yet. Hoping for the best...

Hey guys, What type performance should I expect with this spec:

GTX 980
3570K @ 4.4 MHz
16 GB RAM
1080p HDTV

Is 1080p60 possible at ultra/very high?

any good starting point, setting wise?

Thanks

Yes, 1080/60 is pretty much a given on very high/ultra. Though according to this thread you wouldn't be able to max out HairWorks and maintain 60. So I suppose it comes down to whether you really want HairWorks or not

Nvidia. But I probably worded my post oddly: 1.03 crashed like all hell for me. 1.04 has been fine so far.

Maybe the game switches between being utterly uncooperative with each brand's cards with every other patch lol

I don't see how a single Titan X struggling at 60fps makes Hairworks a "joke". Is the Titan X supposed to be some sort of otherwordly powerful alien artefact ?

It reminds of some people who immediately label X game as unoptimized because the highest end hardware can't max it out (at 60fps, no less).

Very strange frame of mind if you ask me.

It's a feature that is simply way too expensive

Nice, Is hairworks worth the performance hit? can't tell since the game is downloading atm. (needs almost a day to finish, shitty internet)

any other settings with high performance hits?

Hairworks isn't worth the hit.

Just put everything on Ultra apart from Shadows - put that on high. With this, you should get a solid 60FPS at 1080, even in demanding sections. Some areas will drop you to 50, but those are few and far between.

Great news, will start with this and see if hairworks is worth the hit with the latest patches.

Thanks guys

The only way to not get the game to freeze is to downclock the gpu -30

it came factory OC.

Gtx 680

Playing it on 1080p, everything maxed except shadows set to medium, water high, population high and foliage distance high

Hairworks off

How in the world? I am also on a 680 and if I replicate those settings I sit around 35-40 fps.

I'm super sorry if I missed that particular post, but is someone in here playing or has tested the game on a Radeon 6850 on 4GB Ram? Can I start/play the game on low to med, or won't it even run at all?

I'm not sure if the value for some setting switched but I switched down a notch every setting, and put them back on what they were before the patch and now it seems to run as good as it was with patch 1.03.

Has someone developed a mod to remove durability yet? It's such a terrible mechanic.

Haven't seen a mod, but you can do that with cheatengine. Just gotta do it every time you start the game.

http://cheatengine.org/forum/viewto...&start=0&sid=dd8c12aaea217bf1469d9d62a05651af

It's a cheat engine table. If you've never used it, super quick guide: install CE, launch the game, launch CE, choose witcher 3 from the process list in CE (small computer icon in upper left corner), open the .ct file you downloaded in CE by clicking the folder icon next to the computer icon, click the small box next to "unlimited durability".

Voila, every piece of equipment locked at 100%.

I have a 3770@4.5ghz, a 980 and 8GB RAM@2400mhz and everything is Ultra except Shadows@Medium and Foilage Distance@High. Hairworks is on and res is 1080p. I get 60fps all the time unless I'm in a big fight with multiple Wolves etc which can hit my frames. Only other frame drops are when the camera is very, very close to Geralts head. If I lose Hairwoks I can go to 1440p with DSR and still maintain 60fps nearly all the time. No stutter in game or cutscenes.

Well I solved my crashing issue. For some reason my bios got really messed up, my overclocks weren't working properly any more, tossing out whea logger errors constantly while playing and system stability was affected majorly. After re-flashing the bios and redoing my overclocks I'm 100% stable again. Prime95, IBT and Witcher all run perfectly with no issues, and no more whea errors, I can even use my old GPU overclock which I at first thought was causing the crash to desktop but it wasn't. Happy days!

Is there a way to restore the mipmap stuff as it was in 1.03?

Edit: found it and tested it:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=165134643&postcount=168

So.Much.Better.

Edit 2: no way, the game just load with Low textures and if you try to crank them up it applies that shit again, even if your .ini is read only. Meh

Stuff like this in motion has become like dogshit in my eyes:

Good god why did they do this. The game looked far better before.

Kill the windows shell and have your PC boot directly into The Witcher 3. With everything on low, textures on medium, light shafts and SSAO on, you'll get 24-28fps mostly. I know because my buddy has that card and an i5

I use sweetfx just to turn down the vibrancy a tad.

-0.05

It's easier on the eyes, might not be noticeable straight away. Colours still look great.

Also, I'm not sure if it's because mine is bugged in that mipmap is set to 0 in the config file but I still get the shimmering with ultra and high textures and it doesn't change the value in the rendering.ini file (which isn't read-only)...but damn things look good now.

I get that feeling from the vegetation that I got with 4K, but on 1440p. A slight clarity or something. You can feel it when there's a lot of vegetation.
