CDPR not discussing Cyberpunk 2077 until 2017

The game just needs a character as iconic as Geralt. Is there an existing Cyberpunk character likely to star in this? I remember they had some novels.

It no being this year or next means at least 2 years away, not 3. Just pointing that out.

But, yeah not surprising. I am curious to see how CDPR handles a sci-fi RPG considering their experience is with western fantasy.

Good point! Edited OP. I would love 2 years out but I'm pretty sure it will be 3. Wild Hunt was a massive amount of work for them and I'm sure they want Cyberpunk to be just as good

Yeah, I got the impression that the two team idea fell apart somewhere during production of The Witcher 3 and basically everyone got thrown on making that.

I seem to recall some interview or some other quote from somebody at CDPR in the recent past where they almost said as much- that at a certain point, it was just all hands on deck to get The Witcher done.

Makes sense, considering how many times they had to delay TW3.

My guess is the whole Witcher 3 downgrade arguments have played a role in the decision of when we will see the Cyberpunk. My guess is that they'll show it a lot closer to release now versus giving us a target render video that;s subject to change (for whatever reason).

I remember the press conference when they announced the game, feels like a long time ago. Probably jumped the gun announcing the game though.

Maybe we won't get a console port this time.

I hope...

Sorry to ruin everything you clearly hold dear but Witcher 3 being on consoles brought in huge numbers for them but yeah they should totally alienate consumers who are willing to give them their cash to simply appease those who have a PC.

Why the fuck is this us vs them attitude tolerated?

Yeah probably. Considering the The Witcher 3 got delayed a fair bit and it's overall development time I'd imagine Cyberpunk will likely be quite a ways off.

Why even announce something that far out?

We know for fucking sure it's not going to hit the presentations level of fidelity at all; unless it is delayed until the next console generation.

I personally wasn't thinking we'd see this until late 2017 or sometime in the middle of 2018. It'll be worth the wait though I'm sure, so take your time!

After playing Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 is now my most anticipated game. I love W3 but I'm more of a sci-fi guy than fantasy so I think Cyberpunk could end up being one of my favorite games ever.

The easiest thing for me to do is just forget about it until the time nears. I can do like 1 year but not that long.

Witcher 3 is the last Geralt game, it ends the story of Geralt, but CDPR has confirmed the series/universe isn't over. So Im hoping for Ciri in the next Witcher game.

I wish they would just continue with Geralt. I don't really care for any other characters in the Witcher world.

The announcement is likely more to drum up support (fiscally) from publishers/investors. If they didnt announce it via the method they did, then sneaky detective gaf would find out about the project through leaked sources as they go around talking about the game privately. Its much better to announce it this way (and its not like they really showed anything other than a cutscene and title anyway).

It's okay, this will give us more time to play through the PS4 re-releases of Witcher 1 and 2.

It's nice to want things.

It annoys me that they publicly released that trailer as a recruitment ad. I remember when it was being talked about as a 2015 game shortly after the trailer released and that seemed so far off.

Yeah, they gave the impression that it was in production, when it really wasn't. Still a long, long way away.

As for The Witcher, Hearts of Stone is due in October and Blood and Wine for Q1 2016. I wonder if they're planning another expansion pack on top of that?

Hope so, I need moreeeeeee!!!!

This game is awesome. I wouldn't mind if they made another game letting me play a scrub skelliger. I mean the world they crafted is so good they could tell other stories in it à la GTA IV, see the world from someone's else pov.

Should have kept it 2020 and just gone the route of games like Fallout or Blood Dragon by creating a 'future' world based on the 'future' of the past. Part of the charm of Fallout is its retrofuturism being based on the 60's idea of the future, and Blooddragon has that 80's neon-future look.

Except Fallout and Blood Dragon have a satirical, tongue-in-cheek tone whereas Cyberpunk 2077 is going for a much more realistic, serious tone.

Once this gen is over, I'd love to see a 'across-every-developer-post-mortem' to see how many devs (aside from the forced annualised ones) missed their expected, initial release window that they set for themselves at the beginning of the project + when full production starts.

It feels as if the entire industry underestimated how long it'll take them to actually make their game, be it unexpected challenges or the natural pipeline of simply more content/more textures.

A 100% something to savour. Keep cooking up the good stuff chaps.

Am really excited fit this game and will be fun keeping it on the radar for the next few years.

PS5?

so if its a 2017/2018 game, I wonder what the chances of it being a PS5/Xbox 4/Amazon 1 game are?

Speaking of which, where the hell are my GTA V single-player expansion packs?

I guess it's good that they're taking their time, but it's a bit of a shame that they've announced it so early because now I'm going to be waiting years for this. Hopefully there will be a few good cyberpunk games in the meantime that will quench my thirst.

I'm looking at you Deus Ex and Fallout.

I'm guessing late 2017 or 2018 at this point.

That's fine, take all the time you need

If W3 is any indication of the kind of thorough and polished content with all aspects of the game, it's completely understandable that this game is a long ways off.

Take your time and give us more Witcher content in the meantime CDPR!
