Gifs would demonstrate this better than I can describe. But some examples:
-When the show becomes a manga for an entire scene
-When the show becomes south park for a scene
-All the weird faces and unnatural movements

Some examples:

I don't really think any of those are bad. They have tons of personality at least, and they have a lot of detail The manga scene is gold.

On the topic of FLCL, I own a RIO:bone Canti figure, without a doubt my favorite figure.

^Sigh, I can tell my comment isn't being understood. My fault. I should have worded it differently.

I don't really think any of those are bad. They have tons of personality at least. And the manga scene is gold. And they have a lot of detail

I think the 2nd and 3rd demonstrate it best - characters are ten deformed into weird shapes, the animation isn't really smooth or detailed.

Don't get me wrong - I liked this. It was funny, there were a lot of gags in every scene. Tons of personality. Its not a criticism so much as it is acknowledgement of the style they went with. Perhaps thats a better way of describing it than "intentionally shitty." And the animation is pretty great when it counts like during the big action sequences.

you said bad animation, not the opposite

look how effective those 2-3 frames.

Soma has been awesome. After Show By Rock it is easily the second best thing this season.
the last episode kind of confused me though because Soma and the others are just wasting time not even cooking. Megumi is super adorable though and so is that Japanese cook.

Fucking Anno, cba animating and pulls out his camcorder and records a bunch of telephone poles and the auditorium. Don't even get me started on Kaguya and Yamadas!
:p

people dont like flcl?

He didn't say he didn't like it. In fact he said it was pretty good.

Shonen time moves at 1/6th regular time. Although studies have shown 10 minutes on Namek are slower then 10 minutes on Dressrosa. WEIRD

Also, as they reference during the second manga scene in episode 6, animating everything like it was in a manga was actually really difficult and time-consuming.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it. There's a lot of experimentation going on in FLCL, and most of it works really well.

I agree, feels very Ghibli-esque.

OMG YES! Thank you, I'm glad somebody else here recognizes this masterpiece T_T I take it you've seen the whole thing? I've still got a bit left to go, but man what a phenomenal show it is. Need to jump into the rest of the World Masterpiece Theater series, everything that it encompasses looks so lovingly crafted, things that if I had children, I'd want them to see. That's honestly the best thing I can say about anything when it comes to these types of shows, both entertaining, amazingly well made and educational. Truly masterpieces in every sense of the word.

I think Hunter x Hunter 2011 takes the cake, in this regard.

Like 6 episodes into the beginning of the castle invasion during the Chimera Ant arc that someone mentions it's only been 2 or 3 minutes since the operation began.

So I'm gonna try watching Kyousougiga tomorrow. What should my expectations be when I watch the series? Also is there just only 10 episodes in total?

Flcl is alright.
one thing that amuses me is how people argue about Kill La Kill because it totally feels like vintage Gainax and people used to love the jerky over the top style. Maybe tastes have changed but Triggers work is true to how it used to be.

First half is great. Second half collapses upon itself in one big, terrible mess.

Granted, I think I'm in the minority on that one. Lots of people around here liked the show a lot.

Don't watch episode 0.

Idk Cajun, it is a bitter battle for thr top of my first full anime season between SNAFU Too, Danmachi and Plastic Memories. Fri.'s & Sat's have awesome for me.

You need to watch Kekkai Sensen and Arslan Senki.

One of my favorite shows of that year. It gets a bit confusing at times, granted, but it's not as messy as Tuck seems to have found it. It's really very charming with some great characters, a good story, and shockingly good animation (it's Toei, after all). Highly recommended, though it does get pretty deep into some Buddhist concepts.

Is episode 0 terrible?

It's a rebroadcast of an old ONA that gives away some of the proper show's twists right off the bat. It won't ruin anything (didn't for me), but you probably shouldn't watch it, he's right.

A full length movie might have been too much, but I felt like Triceracop suffered from not having a more developed relationship with Kung Fury. I should have been more psyched when he showed up than I was.
triceracop was really lame and more screen time given to him wouldve made the movie unwatcheable tbh

SNAFU and Euphonium take the cake for me. Everything is awesome, just not AOTS material.

See I like both those shows but I really don't see anything amazing about them. However I can see why people think they are amazing or AOTS material. I already pointed out why I feel SNAFU isn't that amazing. As for Euphonium it just feels a bit boring for me, plus band doesn't do it for me. The little red dots on the characters look annoying and used for moe factor. Also I don't hate Yuri but I'm mostly really meh on it and considering Euphonium has Yuri undertones it just doesn't do it for me. I guess I'm just a bit cold towards KyoAni these days as their output really don't interest me much anymore. Don't get me wrong though I don't think it's crap because I actually like it a bit and can see why many love it. I just don't feel it's anything amazing.

Though personally AOTS material for me is Kekkai Sensen and Arslan Senki because their settings are absolutely intriguing and vibrant. Plus I find the cast for each far more enjoyable than all the other series this season.

Its a toss up between Euphonium and Kekkai Sensen for me, altho I leaning toward Euphonium at this point.

Arslan is intriguing, but production value is just so bad aside the stellar chara design.

I can't say BBB is AOTS even though I like it a lot because I see its flaws. A lot of important stuff is being left out and there's only a few episodes left. As for Arlan it's a 2-cour and things only really started moving on the last episode, it's progressing very slowly. This is why these 2 aren't my picks.

I want to ask, what are the important information that you think is being left out in Kekkai Sensen?

C'mon FLCL is way better animated than KLK, it's not even a contest.

How exactly did the blood control techniques come to exist? They seem to have been a thing long before the incident. They speak about a demon world, is this demon world a parallel universe, how did the two know if each other's existence if so? What's Leo's sister role in this whole show? I thought she was part of the major plot. There's more stuff that I keep asking myself every week, but I can't think of much more right now. I had a few birthday drinks so I'm not at my 100% right now lol

^Happy birthday. It's 11:55 so I'm just in time.

Well, some of the plotlines do feel a bit... undercooked? And the show has this weird juggle of episodic stuff and a more serial storyline that doesn't quite mesh well together I think. And there is a notable lack of character development and depth in a lot of the cast. Other people have explained all that better, in more detail in this thread.

In spite of all that I love the show. Very entertaining. I like the characters. I love the style/setting/artwork.

For me, its a toss up between Arslan and BBB - I think Arslan is gonna take it. It scratches a particular itch. Pacing was a tad slow but has picked up a bit. Eager to see where it goes. Also has some decent action sequences. Leonardo is the better MC though - love his design, love his VA and mannerisms.

AoTS is Euphonium for me, no contest. BBB is the only other show I'm somewhat watching, and the most remarkable aspect of it is the direction and music over the actual story itself, so it's not really a contender.

It's fucking excellent. episode 0 spoils lots of things so don't watch it when you begin.

:O Your avatar. I guess it's good I changed when I did!

Ahaha yes you were thank you!

I do have to say, don't take what I said in a negative light I like both shows a lot! With BBB I get that part of why everything is so open to interpretation is due to its episodic nature, and to give the viewer a sense that we are seeing the characters through the eyes of not a God that knows and sees everything in the city, but from down below. The story is about the characters that live in a fucked up city, not the city itself.

As for Arslan I feel like I am watching GoT in anime form. I think the show is going to be epic on its second cour.

Let's see... Euphonium is a shoe-in for AOTS for me

I'm also down with Mikagura, Show By Rock and Utena

I really gotta watch more anime though. School's out and I'm somehow procrastinating on watching anime.

Soma, Ore Monogatari and dungeon are all fighting each other for AoS for me.

at this point in time Ore likely has the edge, but as long as soma continues to stick to the manga it will likely win out in the end.
