i was thinking about this question for some time
with new IPs coming soon , which of the OLD franchise will die this gen ?

and can new franchise survive this gen ?

i think assassin's creed franchise will not continue to the next gen

if watch dogs 2 was a good game, maybe we will see watch dogs 5 on PS5/New Xbox

Nintendo franchise : i think they all gonna pass ( somehow ) , because Nintendo have a lot on money and resource for their first party games
but i don't know about their 3rd party games

also
what games you think will survive ?

All of them.

In all honesty though, I think if we have another gen of consoles, we'll probably still have Call of Duty, GTA, Halo, and Battlefield. Beyond that, flip a coin on what will be left over in the AAA space.

metal gear?

MGS.
i hope so

All of Konami and Hudson's IP.

Hopefully, Metal Gear.

:/

Legacy Country lol

Nah, Metal Gear Pachinko will be going strong for decades to come.

Something not obvious, please.

Methinks Sunset Overdrive 2 will come out in 2018, still not sell well, and that'll be it for the franchise.

Gears of War seems like it's probably pretty dead unless the new one does great.

There might be another game after that, but it's just a franchise that seems so ancient at this point.

I hope that Naughty Dog moves on from Uncharted after the next installment. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed the franchise, but I'd rather see them branch out to more IPs.

Metal Gear. Silent Hill. Perhaps a Sony franchise.

It really hurts to say this, but what do you guys think the chances of Xenoblade continuing are?

I have my doubts Tony Hawk will continue past Pro Skater 5. I really like the games, including some of the more recent ones, but the early talk of this new one sounds quite bad and didn't look good graphically either.

Not as if the series has been thriving but I figure that'll be the last hurrah and they'll let the contract languish afterwards.

I think this will be it for Uncharted. Naughty Dog will either develop The Last of Us 2, or a totally new IP and move on.

I could see Sony retiring InFamous and Ratchet at some point during this gen. Idk they just don't seem like they really have staying power compared to Sony's other now dead IPs.

Assassins Creed
Far Cry

I think they'll die out, Ubisoft will take 5 years off and then reboot them similar to what happened with Tomb Raider. Tomb Raider got beaten to death with lousy games after the first two were truly stellar, then a couple were pretty mediocre, then you got one stinker after another. Assassins Creed has followed a similar path. Far Cry has consistently been praised by fans of the series, but it's really felt stale to me. The Ubi formula has run dry over the last 5 years so we'll see what'll happen.

Wouldn't be surprised if they release, say, two more AC's then take substantial time off to reboot the next one maybe late this gen or a future console and call it just "Assassins Creed."

I'm also sort of skeptical whether we'll see another numbered Grand Theft AUto this generation, but definitely wouldn't consider it "Dead," just maybe not seeing a new big numbered release. Not that the series would "die" But I just don't know if Rockstar has it in them to release another one before this generation ends. I hope they just continue to add to GTAV, not just adding content to GTAO.

I could see InFamous being killed this gen. Second Son went over luke warmly, bolstered a lot because there was not much else available at the time, and people wanted a good looking game. I wouldn't be surprised if Sony had another InFamous release and then just sort of swept it under the rug.

Tony Hawk games died basically with the PS2/Xbox generation. Sure, there were some releases after, but none of them sold well or were good, and most were afterthoughts. Ride truly killed the franchise. The games being released now are remakes or reboots or trying to get the essence of the originals, but it's basically a dead franchise even though a mobile game or something called Tony Hawk might come out once every few years.

Uncharted - as much as I am in love with the franchise - it should end on a high note. I would be sad to see the franchise milked beyond 4 and be botched. Naughty Dog has TLOU and a space opera IP to build :)

Metal Gear Solid

Halo should but it won't.

Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.
Uncharted gotta have a finale at some point. Wither this or next. Hopefully they do it in grand fashion and do it soon.

I dont think yearly franchise like Assasins Creed and COD would just die. First they make it bi annually and then once in a three year before killing it completely.

Edit

Also Kinect Sports

I can see some Sony IPs coming to an end. Ratchet and Clank, Sly (probably dead already), and maybe inFamous. I don't know what Sucker Punch could do after Second Son and First Light.

Oh, and probably Crash Bandicoot.

I have hope still, but I don't think it's happening...

Pro Evolution Soccer? With all the Konami issues right now & PES' relative 'fall from grace' since its PS2 glory days, I wouldn't be surprised if the franchise comes to an end this gen.

Assassin's Creed. That cow will have been milked dry this gen.

Nah. Fatigue is real, but the sales are still strong. I don't see it dying if they keep moving more modern- they teased a whole bunch of potential ideas in Unity such as 1920s New Orleans and WWII.

MGS as far as console releases go. Killzone is probably a fair answer though. We shall see what Halo 5 brings to the table; the drop off of players fairly quickly after 4 was very noticeable.

If Media Molecule's new game has the 'Play, Create, Share' aspect and isn't limited to sidescrolling gameplay I could see it being replaced easily.
Especially if it's anything like the techo demo they showed during the PlayStation 4 reveal event.

Will Ninja Gaiden survive this generation? I feel like it is set up to potentially fail and fall off if the next version is not deemed worthy by fans.

Well, taking that the last title of the franchise was Yaiba Ninja Gaiden Z, i would say it's already dead. Maybe they'll release a HD version of the trilogy, but i certainly wouldn't bet on a sequel.

Halo - barring MS actually respecting the series again. I fear that they'll keep pumping out broken games with a "we'll fix it later" mentality that will further anger the remaining player base. Not going to go into what craziness they'll pull with the SP.

Assassin's Creed - The fatigue for this franchise will eventually catch up to it. Ubisoft managed to stave off complete franchise oversaturation this year by not releasing two games again. For the me the series is already dead because the novelty of the different settings has worn off.

Gears of War - Unless they pull the most absurd of plot contrivances, the best fans can hope for is HD remakes of the main games. The story is done, give it up. Not every franchise needs to continue on in perpetuity.
