that controlling the game without pressure-sensitive buttons makes the controls even worse

In-case anyone here is wondering, pressure-sensitivity works in PCSX2, if you use SCP Server, there are two files located in the Bin/Win32 folder, a custom LilyPad.dll and XInput1_3.dll. Place the Lilypad.dll into the plugins folder of PCSX2 and the XInput.dll into the root of PCSX2 (Where the .exe is located). Change the pad plugin for the customized one, and you should be able to tick native DS3 mode.

For other controllers, I'm not entirely sure. I've seen threads at PCSX2 where some PS2 adapters support pressure sensitivity, but can be iffy with Lilypad, and for the Xbox 360 controller, I don't know if that supports pressure sensitivity in the first place.

Really? I have an i7 4700k@4.2Ghz and a 980, so I must have been doing something wrong. May give it another try. However, my other points still stand and the HD Collection is the way to go. Crossing my fingers that it will release on PC next year after MGSV.
I think there's a patch for MGS2 to make it widescreen, though I don't know how well it works.

http://ps2wide.net/m.html

There's one for MGS3, too, but it's buried somewhere in the PCSX2 forums, but it doesn't work on 100% the game's effects.

Would this run on a Vaio VPCEB2M0E?
It has 4gb ram and a i3 350M @2.26GHz

In general you could say no.
The Sandy-Bridge processor might be good enough for many titles, but the integrated Gen 6 GPU is just extremely slow.
Even the native ps2 resolution will be a hurdle.

Just picked up Xenosaga Episode 1

Config
Custom Res 1920x1080
8xMSAA
8xAF
Shadeboost

Runs full speed at all times except I've only encountered 1 major slowdown during a boss fight. Reducint it to 4x MSAA didn't change it.

Specs
i5 3470
Radeon R9 280
8GB DDR3 Ram

I have a question: Did they ever fix the funky shadows in Xenosaga? (I remember the shadows clipping through textures back when I tried it...)

Xenoblade Chronicles X has me feelin' a playthrough of the PS2 trilogy.

The only shadow problems I have encountered were fixed by setting skipdraw to 1 under HW hacks.

You're not alone in having trouble. I haven't tried it recently, but I seem to recall that hardware mode was actually slower than software in MGS2. There were seemingly inexplicable plunges in framerate.

Wanted to try out Onimusha 1 and 2 on pcsx2, just borrowed a game from a friend, so I wanted to ask good people here at neogaf a question.

What is the best config for these games?
Any suggestions?

99 percent of the time you usually just want to stick with the default settings, mainly just upping the rendering resolution and AA to whatever your machine can handle. And when in doubt use the hacks slider if you need a little performance boost instead of digging around manually.

PCSX2 doesn't support exclusive full screen mode currently does it? I found a post from 2010 by the debs explaining why they dropped it but that they were open to leaving it back in.

Now that gsync is a thing having exclusive full screen mode would be great. I'd use the emulator over a PS2 in more cases than I do now, for sure.

Hey guys I have a question about emulating Yakuza but I cant seem to find a solution. Every time I start the game up, it goes through the intro sequence just fine until it gets to the apartment scene. Then the screen goes black although audio is still playing. After, the cutscene where Kazuma pulls up to collect the debt plays fine but when it gives me control to play, it does the same thing.

Im not trying to make the game look great or anything like that since my computer probably cant push it to the limits. Im just trying to play the games in their native state. I havent really fiddled with settings, I just ran the iso.

Im extremely new to this emulation thing.

Started playing Rule of Rose and everything seemed to work fine, but the game and emulator now freezes at the start of the second chapter (March). Any ideas?

i'm trying to play persona 4 and i get this ghosting on the characters as they move during dialog scenes, but if i run around the house there is no ghosting. any help?

Anybody got True Crime Streets of LA to work

I believe this is one of few games that's just unplayable.

The most you can do about it, because I believe it's how the game just is, is to try and use the Progressive scan patch, it's included in the widescreen patch. If you're already running widescreen patches, PCSX2 should tell you that you're in Progressive mode, if so, that's as best as you can get it, sorry =(.

What is clamping? I turned it off and it helped a bit. But if that's how the game is then whatever, I'll deal with it.

I have no idea what any of the settings do. What are good settings to get games looking the best I can get? I have an i5-4440s, 8gb ram and a gtx 970. I have scaling set to 6x but all the other settings like the aliasing I have no clue.

Oye, if you're running a 1080p monitor, you really don't need to set your scaling to 6x, the benefits are hardly worth it. Stick to 4x to be honest, that's like running the game at 2560x1792 for 4x, at 6x, it's even higher and not worth it.

Anti-aliasing, if it doesn't break any of the graphics, is fine to use, 4x should be fine really, though I believe anti-aliasing breaks many games.

If you want to get in-depth about this, we can move it to the PM's so I can explain stuff to you.

Self Note: I should really try and update this thread with new information.... /sigh

Well, it seems like PCSX2 now has more than one person working on new builds at a time.

They're working on it slowly, haven't seen refraction do much building lately, but Gregory is working hardcore on OpenGL and Linux builds, so that's a plus.

What is the current status of hardware emulation for Ace Combat?

I believe they still have issues with ground rendering and textures and stuff, the only thing recently fixed for all Namco based games are the thin black vertical lines that would appear if scaling too high. Software mode should be fine, but it won't look so pretty, of course. Sorry.

Big news everyone, snowblind engine games are now working!!! Recently fixed by the masterminds coding PCSX2, it's quite spectacular! I'll be uploading some quick screenshots of games and their finicky behavior in this post.

The games uses a funky frame buffer so if you're using scaling, 2x is actually 4x and native is actually 2x (though native still looks bad where as 2x+ look great). Custom resolutions break the fix for these games so it's recommended to stick with native or scaling modes.

Note: All 4 of these games use a lot of VRAM. My GTX 260 only has 896MB of VRAM and all 4 games will hit that limit immediately, causing low FPS and what-not. If you don't have 1 Gig plus, odds are you can't run these games reliably. Scaling will cause that limit to go much higher, a lot of VRAM is needed. I'd recommend 1.5 or even 2 plus for native resolution gaming for now. PCSX2 devs will try and find a way to reduce memory usage on GPUS.

Note 2: If you use a 64bit OS, you might want to use ntcores 4GB patcher on pcsx2.exe, these games will use memory quite quickly. http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php

Note 3: Using the "allow 8-bit textures" feature in GSDX will probably give you a speed boost to these games. Will continue to post here for other things to be done or things fixed.

Genuinely excited for this. I re-played Dark Alliance 2 too recently to jump on this immediately, but now that I know it's there...

I still get the vertical lines in the Namco games like Tekken 4 etc with the latest builds with high scaling resolutions i.e 4x, 5x, 6x.

I know this is a shot in the dark, but does anybody have gran turismo 4 running relatively well? I get one car on screen my frame rate halves.

In the Config -> Video (GS) -> Plugin Settings page, press the "configure" button next to "Enable HW Hacks" and enable Align Sprite. Make sure Enable HW Hacks is checked off too. It should fix it, I know it did on my end.

Depends on your system specifications, what do you run?

Holy crap, I need to replay Champions of Norrath, classic! :O

This has already been brought up, but for those of you playing Final Fantasy XII, I highly recommend you use the appropriate widescreen patch available here: http://ps2wide.net/f.html

FFXII has built-in 16:9 support but it's a bit shonky because while it's not fully vert-, it does use a combination of vert- and hor+ (i.e. you see a little more to the sides but some of the top and bottom are cut off). The fix makes it fully hor+ (nothing lost from the top and bottom, more can be seen at the sides). It slightly helps alleviate the problem with being unable to see some enemy health bars unless you have a really high camera angle, and makes it a bit less frustrating in general (I keep wishing I could zoom out properly like in Xenoblade).

For those not in the know: download the appropriate pnach file and put it in your cheats folder, or cheats_ws folder in later builds, and enable cheats under the system menu in the emulator.
Thanks for this. Games looks beautiful

So in persona 4, occasionally a double of the game image will flicker for a bit. using openopengl fixed the flicker but fucked up floor textures. Also, in battle, when someone in the party asks to attacK,there is a small outline of the rear text box. Any way to fix these?

After digging up a bunch of my old PS2 stuff to finally try this out on my new PC.
I'm having an issue with Sword Of The Samurai, or Kengo Legacy Of the Blade, whatever you want to call it where if the vertical resolution is set higher than 512, this weird blurring appears on everything.
It doesn't seem to matter what I change or how I set the resolution (generally I just play at 4x native and then play windowed while doing other stuff, I'm wondering if there is a way around this, I did have it running at 2560x512 which actually is not too bad and the crazy blurring doesn't happen, but the game just isn't nearly as crisp as I was hoping to get it.

In other news I'm still blown away by how good the PS2 potentially was back in the day hidden under all that low resolution nonsense.
Soul Calibur 3 looks pretty incredible, I just wish I could get rid of the vertical lines without lowering the resolution, I've seen stuff on the PS3 look worse than that.

The weird blurring is the interlacing effect, try hitting F5 (or choosing manually in the GSDX settings under Interlacing) a few times to see if it helps. Depending on the game the effect might still appear from time to time (like during loading screens etc.) even if you find the best deinterlacing mode.

Unfortunately all the interlacing modes that aren't a form of Blend cause the game to be extremely shakey.

so i wanted to make all my ps2 games autoboot by just opening the iso, and adding all the shortcuts to my start screen. does anyone know where i could get the save icons for games so i can customize each game ?

To remove the vertical lines in Soul Calibur 3, get the latest version of PCSX2 from the buildbot page, go into Config -> Video (GS) -> Plugin Settings. Find the Enable HW Hacks option and enable it. Then go to "Configure" and enable "Align Sprite". This should take care of the lines.

If Google turns up blank for save icons, you might need to open the PCSX2 Bios, save an image with all the save icons PS2 uses, crop each icon individually and then convert the image to the .ico format.

Though I'm curious, why not just use PCSX2Bonus, it's a front end that allows per game configuration and it's just a double click away to play your games.
