Most overpowered Multiplayer weapon?

It's hardly the most popular game, and it's easily the least popular mode but ninja gaiden 3 and razors edge have an oft forgotten competive multiplayer component.

And in razors edge they introduced the Scythe
Ninja-Gaiden-3-Razor%E2%80%99s-Edge-Review-4.jpg

Which has an incredibly overpowered 360 attack that can be spammed endlessly providing you get the timing right, and the move comes with a tone of I-frames making skilled players borderline invisible when doing so. Here's some single player footage of it in use
http://youtu.be/fWFIhsoHeSE

So of course once this exploit was discovered tons of people spammed it online, which in turn made it bascily impossible to defeat anyone using it, unless you too are relentlessly spamming it. FUN!

Probably wouldn't have been to bad if it wasn't for that God awful sound. "HRAHHH!"

The Barman Shanker

Before weapon speed normalization this would just about one shot average geared cloth wearers in WoW PvP. It was stronger than most raid daggers for a while.

OMG the rolling of people me and a buddy used to do with this thing. It was ridiculous.

Then I rolled up and geared a frost mage and our combo of him with rogue/shank and me was stupid crazy OP. Back in the day when world PVP was fun.

In cod world at war everyone used dual .AGS mp40 all day, it was pretty fucjing op, but then again everything in cod is op.

farsight + laptop gun in perfect dark.

Go to an enclose hallway into room.

Throw laptop gun in a place where it will shoot immediately as soon as somebody makes the turn.

Go in corner, farsight.

Laptop was an automatic sentry gun that did buttloads of damage and can be placed on walls, ceilings, angles etc.

Faright was a sniper rifle that automatically find people, give x-ray vision and shot through walls and was a one-shot kill.

It's ironic of Bungie

I would have bought Destiny for PvP alone if it was as balanced as Halo with pick up weapons

Pickup weapons only encourages camping the rocket spawn etc.

Anyway none of these is as op as one shot killers

Kz 2 pistol from across the map

Mw2 1887 s from halfway across the map

Even in destiny there's 3 shotguns that are worse offenders it's all you will get killed by within 20 feet.
One shot body kill snipers.
I know I own all of them but I rotate weapons from boredom

There's some scumbag who goes around on pub servers challenging the lowest-scoring players on the opposing team to duels, and then rocking this loadout. There's a reason Enforcer is banned in comp.

CE pistol being in the first post makes me sad. That's the most balanced gun in any game ever. It was fantastic in nearly all situations, yet the other weapons were each better than it in their own situation.

You spawned with a fighting chance, how is it OP if everyone has it?

Famas in R6: Vegas. Zero recoil. Range of a sniper. Clip and speed of an automatic. There were over 25 weapons in the game, but you'd really only see this one if you ventured online.

Winner: Quake 2 Railgun
original.jpg

Absolutely destroyed the Quake experience for me coming from QuakeWorld.

Runner-up: CS:GO Tec-9
latest

I'd also like to take this opportunity to give HIDDEN PATH a big FUCK YOU! for the game breaking shit that is the Tec-9.

Quake 2 Railgun

I thought the Quake 3 rail gun was weak coming from Quake 2! Haha. Yeah, it was definitely over powered in Quake 2 but that game had some great weapons (grenade launcher and hyper blaster were better than GL and plasma gun in Q3)

Oops thought you said Quake Live not Quake World. The most painful thing from Q1 > Q2 for me was the terrible rocket launcher downgrade.

Why Hidden Path? IIRC the tec9 was fine for years before the update that had a decimal point error and made it a laser gun and extremely OP. It wasn't overused at all and whenever I would get one people would be surprised. In fact it was one of those guns people considered not worth buying but was actually decent.

If you actually want to talk about a real OP weapon in splatoon, then I find no greater weapon then the aerospray, covers alot of ground with decent amount of ink, good on kills, range isnt horrible, great for ranked battles and keeps the pressure on.

Red Faction: Guerrilla had a few

Proximity Mines
Rhino Backpack
X-Ray Sniper

It's a testament to how fun that game was that none of the OP stuff ever bothered me.

Haven't unlocked one that doesn't have a garbage sub weapon and special, those are the drawbacks.

Also going to give a mention to the rail gun in Red Faction.

Thorn is ridiculous, yeah, and pretty much everyone has one now (skirmish cheese) and that makes crucible boring as fuck, but i would only nerf the range, because it´s insane, you can snipe with it.

Halo 2 sword. Especially on midship or lockout. The range and the speed to switch your weapon to the sword then lunging was ridiculous. Wouldn't have it any other way though. Just like CE pistol

In my 20 years of gaming there are certain weapons that have stood out to me as way over powered but I've always had a tough time picking out the most over powered of them all.

Well thanks to Destiny the title of the Most overpowered weapon of all time goes to The Thorn: It kills with two shots no matter how high your defense is and even the first shot it'll leave a poison effect on you dealing even more damage. I've never come anything across it before.

That's my opinion, what's yours?

Youve been gaming for 20 years and you forgot the Redeemer.
Nothing mentioned in here even comes close.
Nothing.
aQnPWSK.jpg

One shot, the entire enemy team is gone.
Yeah sure with enough skill you could shoot the rockets outta the air, and in alt mode the shooter was pretty weak.....but nah nothing comes close.

And note i was one of the fucks who got MW2 early (i was ready for prestige at launch) so i got to abuse the 1887 before people knew it was a good idea.
Still didnt compare to what the Redeemer would do against the enemy team.

gunz2.jpg

Best paired with two shotguns. Sometimes you would use two rockets, or two pistols. People who used daggers had no chance.

Took me awhile but here are the ones that came to mind
latest

Red faction - Raildriver
sees through walls and is a one hit kill

cod4M16A4.jpg

Call of Duty 4 - M16A4
With stopping power only needed to land two of the three bullets from your burst plus it was crazy accurate

l.jpg

Socom 2 - IW-80-A2
This gun had the most damage in its class you could put a silencer on it plus it had great accuracy

Armes_mgs3_006.gif

Metal gear solid 3 subsistence - M-37
This gun was down right broken with double tap R2 trick it would not only remove the animation between shots it would also reload your gun

latest

Battlefield 3 - USAS-12 w/frag rounds
There was a reason people called this the pocket nuke it was devastating even at ranges it had no business being good at and deal high splash damage

FMG9_Akimbo_MW3.png

Modern Warfare 3 - Akimbo FMG9's
These had great hip fire a fast rate of fire and a huge magazine it was better then all the shotguns at close range

Spark_20140411155656.png

PvZ Garden Warefare - The Plumber
So this class straight up saves games it has the best splash on his plunge shot on top of best damage in class on top of calling in air strikes and building teleportor's when ever I was on zombies and we weren't making any progress on capping gardens I'd switch to this guy and usually mvp the game

I don't even think the Aerospray is that OP. I can wreck them with a .96 Gal in Ranked. Sprinklers are really strong in ranked mode. I think the Aerospray's range really is it's downfall. It's definitely strong, but certainly not OP.

Pre patch M 60 in Battlefield: Vietnam is the most ridiculous thing I´ve seen in my life! 100 rounds per magazine and you could headshot targets 2kms away with going full auto hipfire while jumping.

Everyone and I mean everyone was running around with it. The US team usually outmanned the Vietcong side by at least 2:1 and if you were unlucky or masochistic enough to join on the VC side and got a lucky kill you usually picked up the M60 kit from the dead guy.

Oh, and it was also the anti tank class as bonus.

The farsight shoots through walls, is a one hit kill, has infinite ammo, and auto-tracks opponents.

Tau Cannon from Half-Life 1 Deathmatch

1. Charge up right click attack for 2-4 seconds and you basically instagib anybody you direct hit
2. Regular left click does plenty damage too
3. Alternate fire at a low angle and it propels you into the air at high speed - a rocketjump without the rocket explosion damage
4. Can fire through walls
5. Can fire through walls AND around corners/bends if you hit the right object/angle

Basically if you're a HLDM noob walking into a match, you'll be plodding along on your feet with a machine gun out. Then an expert player flies across the sky above you - you cant even aim fast enough to hit him - he spins mid air and one-shot-gibs you - before proceeding on his merry lightspeed way through the air, firing his tau cannon behind him every couple of seconds. In a moment he has flown out of sight down the street and behind a building.

You respawn and look around in utter confusion. You're standing in a small empty room all by yourself. Then you hear, in the distance: A tau cannon charge and fire again.

You insta-gib on the spot.
He fired the cannon at a lampshade just outside the room and it diffused the charged shot of radiation through the room and blew you to bits

When you've played long enough you know a big factor in winning is who gets to the tau cannon fast enough.

But as a new player you can't even begin to comprehend the top scorer's superhuman, glitchy, cheat-like powers. Which actually just come down to the physics quirks of the game's most bizarre, OP weapon.

I'd call it the most OP in history because it acts like a goddamn super-fast jetpack as well as a OHK weapon.

backburner_large.png

Backburner in TF2.

Funny hitboxes + airburst = ridiculous

Every time I see somebody name a Pyro weapon, part of me dies inside. It's like that time where pub players whined about the Axtinguisher even though the Powerjack was by and far the most used melee in higher levels of play, so they nerfed it and now Powerjack is used exclusively.

I've come to grips with the fact that, contrary to their stated desires, nobody wants Pyro to be useful for anything but guarding Engineers (the Reserve Shooter is banned in UGC for fuck's sake), but people need to at least complain about the right weapons. Degreaser is universally regarded as the best flamethrower. Backburner is useful in only a fraction of situations.
