OP: I slaughter Thorn users with Hawkmoon all day long. Sometimes the two lucky shot perks stack and I take dudes with full health and shield down in ONE shot.
I can survive two headshots with a full armor/agility Striker build easily. I just run the second my screen turns green.
Hawkmoon > Thorn
Its just considerably rarer. That's why you don't get slaughtered by them more often.

I appreciate the amount of first hand knowledge you put into your post, but I think you and OP are approaching the issue from different angles.
First: you are absolutely right, the three exotic hand cannons all have their strengths and Thorn especially has some very hard counters.
The issue is that in the average engagement, between average players, Thorn wins every time. It requires pretty much no skill (contrasted with The Last Word requiring a deft hand) and is way more common than Hawkmoon. The DoT delays shields even longer, and makes the person who got away a soft target for your teammate. Plus, most of Destinys engagements are mid-range unless you control them into long range, so it's just naturally fantastic in that range.
I'm sure you are great and can counter Thorn without issue. The average player is average, and in their hands Thorn is way too good.
The funny thing about the Perfect Dark Farsight was that it was designed to be an anti-camping weapon.
Except its ability to shoot anyone anywhere on the level made it the perfect camping weapon itself.
Does MMO PvP count? I'd say that in Ragnarok Online (before the 3rd jobs came in, since I didn't play after that), the Creator/Biochemist's Acid Demonstration/Acid Bomb was overpowered as shit. Its damage scaled on the enemy's defensive stats, which meant that anyone who was built tough enough to tank any amount of normal pvp damage from other jobs in the game would get oneshot or twoshot by this attack. So you'd either build to be kind of squishy and get killed by everyone else in the game, or you could build yourself to be at least somewhat tanky (which is the typical PvP/WoE build), which leaves you vulnerable to getting destroyed by Acid Demonstration.
Combine that with being buffed and supported by a party, and a single Creator could put out enough damage to stop droves of attackers. Its main drawback was the bullshit amount of time and money it took to craft the items needed to use Acid Demonstration, which was a gigantic pain in the ass and meant that you needed to spend dozens of hours gathering and crafting the items needed to spend maybe an hour spamming this skill.
If you feel that your opinion is superior to others then good for you. Feel free to show me more non TLW handcannons with a better stability than the Thorn.Stopped reading right there. Its got one of the BASE biggest kicks in the game (80), even with the balance perk its middle to high tier of kick for hand cannons.
People posting this drivel man, if thorn was easy you would be using it, but I guess you don't as you would know about the kick blasting up in your face each shot.
TLW has bigger kick, biggest in game and worse than Thorn.
If your good with the Thorn, it does not show.

Great job at making assumptions about other people being salty and not being able to use the gun correctly or use the gun at all.
I don't use the Thorn anymore because it indeed is, once again, easy as hell to use and doesn't make the game any more fun for me, I like variety so I switch my primaries up from time to time. I used the gun way back when the nerf just kicked in, it was fun to use but after some months I began to see its flaws when it came to balance. The gun needs a nerf as it has no downsides other than magazine size and even that is debatable.
I like how you're telling everyone that their opinion is wrong and you're forcing your opinion on to them.So you went to mercury 3 times then...No you don't know about the guns mate.

Yes I did, and I've encoutered lots of Thorns by doing the Trials but what are you exactly trying to prove here? The Thorn has one of the best stabilities a handcannon can have in the game, its a fact. I don't know what that link has to do with stability, I'm not talking about those hidden stats like those in that docs page. Once again, feel free to show me handcannons with a better stability as you seem 100% convinced that I'm wrong here.So you went to mercury 3 times then...No you don't know about the guns mate.

If he gets the jump on you, then yeah you're dead. Otherwise, just back up and shoot.
I like how you're telling everyone that their opinion is wrong and you're forcing your opinion on to them.
Definitely the Thorn, it's a PvP gamebreaker if I've ever seen one, the Hawkmoon and TLW got nothing on it. Getting 2 headshots with a handcannon with one of the best stabilities in the game is easy as hell. The DoT perk gives you the option to chicken out and avoid further confrontation while the enemy is taking all the damage since its just a matter of time till he dies (that is if you hit it with 2 headshots or 1 headshot and bodyshots)
Another big advantage is the range which is also ridiculous, you can get sniped very easily by a Thorn user pretty much out of nowhere at scout rifle range.
The rate of fire is also high which can give you enough chances at hitting the enemy when you missed your critical hit(s)
The Hawkmoon has a bigger kickback when firing and its target acquisition isn't that spectacular. Its also very bad at close range and people use that luck in the chamber x3 argument waaay to much even though it really depends on luck, the Thorn still stays consistent with its damage and always activates that DoT on its first hit.
The Last Word is very good at close range but loses at long (some) mid range encounters compared to the Thorn and Hawkmoon.
No it is not, you are wrong. It does not kill in 2 shots unless both headshots.
Guns that kill in 2 headshots = TLW (hipfire), Hawkmoon, Thorn. Basically ALL the exotic primary hand cannons.
Guns that kill in 2 burst = red death, Messenger , Three little words
Fastest primary gun to kill = Hawkmoon 40 % of the time.
Fastest primary gun to kill without 2 headshots = Either TLW or Hawkmoon
So out of the exotic primary handguns, Thorn is the slowest time to kill. Each is equal in my opinion and suit different engagement distances.
TLW = best up close
Thorn - Best Medium Range
Hawkmoon = best beyond medium range
And yes, Exotic hand cannons and exotic primaries should be better, as they are exotic and you have to choose 1 in your load out.
Best primary guns for getting head shots - VEX and Jewel of Osiris (AA).
if you keep getting killed by Thorns in medium range and get 2 head shotted, then learn to strafe or engage at the distance to suite you weapon.
Thorn is popular in Trials of Osiris with reviving team mates 3 vs 3 as it slows the health regen making rotating players in fight more efficient - A counter is red death which insta heals
All those above guns do nothing against a 365 Elfrit spear with final round, kills in 0.01 seconds. Got me to Mercury 3 times last week.
Weapon data and kill times.

You comments come across as a player who could not get to Mercury and just being salty. Lots of moaning posts from player teams who could not do 9-0, Thorn, spear, TLW, Hawkmoon lucky 1 shots...Shoguns, Blinking...you name it
Learn to snipe, learn to blink shotgun...get closer with last word, or stay back and snipe / Fang them.....Thorn stands NO chance at all. Only time we got close games was against good snipers...Did not care if they had thorn or not, made no difference.
Also if you fight medium and beyond, the Fang and Vision 365 slaughter all the primary exotic hand cannons, as do all snipers. There is no contest.
If you fight close range, shotguns slaughter all primary hand cannons.
Thorn is just a word of Crota with less range, more kick and 42 poison damage - remove the poison damage and word of crota is a better gun (and better at range vs recoil)
People with slow reaction time can parry with this weapon. It's start up was like 1 frame and the B-Team couldn't decide whether or not to buff or nerf the weapon.

Then you have a dagger which can OHK no matter what gear is being used.

Lol at the AWP response.
This fuckin' thing

tell us how you really feel
Okay now you're getting out of hand, accusing people of being poor players because they find a certain gun overpowered. Its the (I get shot by a gun allot because I cant strafe so nerf it) brigade.
People spouting nonsense just because they are poor players.
I have no idea what these are. Name your games, people.
I have no idea what these are. Name your games, people.
In my 20 years of gaming there are certain weapons that have stood out to me as way over powered but I've always had a tough time picking out the most over powered of them all.
Well thanks to Destiny the title of the Most overpowered weapon of all time goes to The Thorn: It kills with two shots no matter how high your defense is and even the first shot it'll leave a poison effect on you dealing even more damage. I've never come anything across it before.

That's my opinion, what's yours?

I doubt Armored Core had much of a multiplayer following during the PS1 era. If it did, I'm sure these were banned.
Blue Shell [Mario Kart]
Oh my God yes. Can't forget the UMP, that thing was killer with a silencer and no Stopping Power.
The Smart Pistol MK5 is Titanfall also annoys me to no end.
I'm sorry, but all 3 Exotic Hand Cannons are at fault here. If you're going to nerf one, you're going to have to nerf them all.The Thorn
i think you diminishing how poorly you can play as pyro and still be so effective.
regardless of the damage of the degreaser, being able to disable someone by the blowback + flare gun is actually quite ridiculous.
No one has the crowd control like he does.

This and halo pistol are winners to me.
Winner: Quake 2 Railgun

Absolutely destroyed the Quake experience for me coming from QuakeWorld.
Soldier and Demoman do crowd control far better. You don't even need to be looking at higher levels of play, their weapons have more damage, range, and spread than the Pyro's Flamethrower. It also helps that they can explosive jump to high places so they can easily bombard crowds from a safer place. No one has the crowd control like he does.
There was a gun in Red Faction 2 that could shoot through the stage. Fuck everything about it.

Not really OP as it is a contested weapon that spawns on the map that everyone can grab. It's there to make people stop hide and go to attack.
