I don't think I ever watched this one live, the later ones I did back when all the streaming sites would die during the conference and you have to jump between them

The Eye of Judgement is an amazing game.
And yes, I have Genji: Days of the Blade, but I don't think I've ever opened the box.
I honestly think Eye of Judgement came out at the wrong time because AR is quite a big deal now. I dare say it was ahead of the time.
I would imagine it would be cheaper to produce now, too.
It was such a terrible show for Sony. Some shows that got close to it:
- Nintendo 2008 - wii music
- Konami 2010 - wan mirrion twoops (extreeeeeme!), luchadores, silent hill stare, etc
- Microsoft 2013 - always online
The embarrassing E3 video still makes me laugh to this day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IH2w2l1JTs4
Honestly, this is why I liked the 2013 conference. It was a complete 180 of this steaming pile.
Still baffling to me that people hold this up as one of the bad conferences, the actual game content was arguably among the best we've ever gotten out of a press conference in any E3 ever.
In my opinion, most of Nintendo's shows since 2007 have been far less interesting barring a Zelda/Mario console unveil.
2006 was before the iDevice craze. While iDevices are still viewed as being more important than "video game toys", the prices of iDevices have caused the prices of other tech items to be viewed by some as not that expensive. A system costing $600 now would get a lot of criticism but I highly doubt it would be as much as the what the PS3 got back in 2006.
sony's conferences, pretty much all that i can recall, are bloated and have shitty pacing. i actually don't need to see a trailer for every game that is coming to the platform over the next year. there never seems to be a central message or vision. it's like, 'well, here's all the shit we've been working on. enjoy the next several hours of pretty much the same kinds of games that are also coming out on other platforms.' (this particular part is a criticism of their most recent shows and not 2006 in particular).
Which is why singling out this one feels s weird. At least a lot of the trailers were for new and compelling content even if it was littered with boring bullshit same as every year. And the stage shows actually worked, which is more than what could be said for Sony's 2013 showing. Honestly, people seemed to like that one but content wise they showed almost nothing exclusive and they kept hitting technical errors throughout the show, I thought it was pretty shitty.
oh and as an aside, the revelation of the sixaxis was goofy as hell. kutaragi pulls out a damn dual shock controller in 2006 and acts like it's an ipad in 2006.
Only on GAF is MGS4 mentioned in the same breath as FF13. What the hell is wrong with you people?Final Fantasy XIII and Metal Gear Solid 4! Hooray, after all that crap Sony finally redeem themselves with entries into two of the biggest franchises in gaming history, and the power of the PS3 will promise even better games! Oh my god I am so totally hyped these are gonna be the best entries in each series yet! Of course, at this stage, we have played both of those games. You'd be hard pressed to find someone who truly believed they were the best entries in their respective franchises in 2015.
Hahaha! Yep, but Ridge Racer and Wipeout sold me PSP.
Probably my favorite gif of all time, lmao
What a time
It's insane how well they rebounded, there has already been a lot written about the internal changes but I'd love a much more detailed book going through the timeline with interviews. It's honestly amazing that the PS3 managed to recover from this

Konami 2010 was at least entertaining (so bad so good).
And the price is weird because it was clearly $499/599 yet people only ever quote the more expensive one.
the price is why it sticks into memory really. And the price is weird because it was clearly $499/599 yet people only ever quote the more expensive one.
Same price as the xbox one for a machine with a bluray player back in 2006? Not stupidly expensive IMO

Its interesting looking back just how much you can tell the future of a company based on the e3 presentations.
Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo all had laughably bad presentations followed by major loss of sales and market share.
Sonys was this one, Microsoft had the kinect mess and tvtvtvtvtv, and Nintendo had "NEVER" and Ravi drums.
Konami ea and ubisoft had some terribad showings that preceded low points for the company as well.
People always say that what GAF and the hardcore fans think doesn't matter but I think its pretty clear that negative reaction to your e3 showings means you are in trouble.
Nah, E3 2008 had no direct influence on Wii sales, none. Despite the general narrative that it's a fad and it's going to stop selling any time now 2008 and 2009 sales were still insane. In 2007 it sold 17 mil consoles, while in 2008 and 2009 it was 24 and 26 mil respectively. It slowed down in 2010, but still sold 17 mil consoles.
In retrospect, I would say Ken's ideas for the PS3 were amazingly forward thinking and the PS4 is a step back in several aspects, but more importantly it allowed for Sony to have the runaway success that is the PS4 by forcing them to invest in many things that are huge today which if they had taken a more conventional approach they'd be twiddling their thumbs now.Im glad Krazy Ken is gone for good. That man is a genius but his old years got to him quick. He must have thought he was Jobs for a sec and realized he wasnt when it was too late.
The worst conference of them all. My whole reaction to the conference is summed up in the Simpsons episode when Bart and homer are chasing the BBQ pig
"It's just a little unstable, it's still good. It's still good"
And then when the price was announced it was
"It's gone"
"I know"
The fallout was like a power vacuum of a fallen empire. The Wii360 campaign sprung up where buying the 2 consoles = price of the PS3, etc. and the quotes and bad PR didn't stop at the E3. Every week there'd be another dumb quote.
Very similar to MS with the Xbox one
To this day theres misinformed people who dont know sony released it for 500 because of the way misinformation spreads.
but the ps2 was the best-selling console of all-time. when the 360 underwhelmed people due to its graphics or its price, or whatever, the ps3 was supposed to show the world how things were really done. and instead it was like almost everything about what they were doing was not what they were supposed to be doing. it made the success of the ps2 look like the company had a really string of good luck (similar to nintendo in 2012 and to a lesser extent, 2011).
Crab boss was hilarious but the game being demoed was ok - just your general musou game, probably demoing to show lots of characters on screen at once. Funny moment.
The middle segment with games hat nobody bought seems unfair though. Everybody's golf is a proper classic, and Afrika shows Sony's willingness to invest in non-standard titles, and was actually pretty fun.

the show would probably have been a lot better if an hour of material was cut from its run time. sony, if your press event is eight minutes shorter than mad max: fury road, i'm expecting to see the presenters to have character arcs and develop as people.
