Halo splitscreen co-op RIP 2001-2015

They hid that well.

"FREE DLC MAPS LOOK GUYS WE ARENT SO BAD!"

"no more split screen co-op"

At least online has it. It must be something to do with the way the squad mechanics work in campaign and having 2 player controlled characters and not being able to give orders? Idk.

I can't believe this nonsense. Split-screen co-op is what made me love Halo in college. Hell, I bought an XBO last fall and the MCC just for split-screen co-op.

I swear, 343i is constantly "one step forward, two steps backward" with the franchise.

I was planning on buy Halo 5 digitally to okay with my wife. Now it's only a rental at best. I'm terribly disappointed.

All 4 characters can be controlled by human players.

Funny thing is Black Ops III is doing the opposite, adding in 2 player splitscreen co-op for the whole campaign with up to 4 players online. You know, how Halo 3 & 4 did it.

Wow this was literally the only reason I was going to get Xbox One. Forza would be the other but Ive told myself never to buy a console for 1 game again.

Halo 5 will not have split screen co-op.

It will have online MP split screen.

How is it misleading?

It's a little confusing, couldn't splitscreen co-op refer to MP as well? Idk. Who knows what the other modes will be (firefight? SpOps? etc.).

No it's not. co-op is right there in the title.

That's why you read the OP though, also Co-op is in the title, so, yeah.

Some people think online multiplayer matches are co-op since you're playing on the same screen and preferably on the same team.

I think adding the word campaign would clear some of the confusion.

I don't think I've ever heard of someone referring to multiplayer online deathmatch/capture the flag/whatever as co-op.

There's still co op though but it will be online, so hey that's that.

Ever heard of online co op, because that's what will be in this. You and you're buddies play the other three party members.

This is infuriating, my SO and I have been co-oping the whole series for the past year and now they say we can't do that anymore!

Nobody ever wants to play campaign co-op with me these days, anyway. As long as there's still split-screen online play, I'm alright.

Excellent news, never wanted and never needed it.

Totally. Removing features, especially features iconic to a franchise, is always a good thing.

Thankfully we don't have that co-op choice sitting on our hard drives, ruining the game by being totally optional.

Halo having ADS was the last straw for me but if it didn't have that, this would be the last straw.
*Shrug*
Definitively going to need a new hobby, games don't really offer me anything anymore. I very much doubt there will be any other split-screen co-op supporting console games.

Halo was a huge bonding thing for me and my brother. We're 7 years apart and don't do anything with each other but play Halo. It's been like that for every game and we've both grown a lot since Halo began, but we could always still play it together.

Neutering split screen support in general was the final nail in the coffin for me to not get an X1. I still had regrets of choosing PS4 up until that moment. If I get an X1 down the line I'll still pick up Halo 5 for sure but damn, for all the good changes the franchise has seen, pushing away a pretty big foundation for the community (even if it's not your sibling you played with but your college buddies) kind of hurts.

Cause the PS4 has AAA splitscreen co-op games.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
I won't miss it, and I am actually happy that the resources invested into making that feature work will be put somewhere else.

Split screen co-op was great for past generations, but it's time to move on.

Damnit... this was one of the best features of halo....

Looks like me and my gf wont be able to play this one together then ...

This is infuriating, my SO and I have been co-oping the whole series for the past year and now they say we can't do that anymore!

My SO started playing halo when the MCC came out and she loves it... it has been a great bonding experience for us ... she is going to be pissed when she hears this.

Seems like a huge mistake. Have so many great memories doing the co-op campaign in every other halo game. Now that I don't have an Xbox One to play this new halo on it'll be awfully boring when i try to play with my friends at their homes.

When you call your buddies and tell them you want to play deathmatch do you say "hey, want to play some co-op?"

I've just never heard someone call competitive multiplayer co-op.

Cause he totally said that...

Maybe it was more like

"Hey x1 has halo 5 which will have a great co-op, local multiplayer experience like halo usually does. Whereas the ps4 has these other things but doesn't have that experience so I'll get an X1. Oh wait, what's this, Halo 5 is stripping away all those awesome features Halo usually has? Screw that I'm getting a ps4"

Wow. That's terrible news. One of THE reasons why I've enjoyed the series up to this point.

To me this is a huge fuck up.

Cause the PS4 has AAA co-op games.

Cause the PS4 has no AAA co op games

Cause the PS4 has no co op games

Cause the PS4 has no split screen games at all...

halo 5 still has 2 player split screen multiplayer. This thread really needs a title change for people who do not understand what Co-op means.

You still don't get it.

Let me explain further. You know that HALO has a campaign mode right? well you can play ONLINE with you're buddies to play that campaign. Up to three other people can join that mode and play as the blue team members or Osiris members. As you play through the main story line.

Playing the campaign with friends on the couch has always been the main way I played Halo. This is very sad news indeed. Also, any other time I've done online co-op in any of the other games, there were always terrible lag issues with the games.

Going to can my collectors edition pre order and get standard. I have played every game in co-op for my first time though. Me and my fiancee just have went through every halo game together too and were looking forward to our legendary halo 5 playthough. Guess not anymore. Not buying another Xbox one just to play with my SO.

You think this is an intentional feature ripped from the game, to sell more Xbox Ones? There can't be any other reasons for it, like the move to 60 fps or something logical like that?

60 fps is more reason to have split screen coop. The multiplayer features that the game does have suggest that much of the infrastructure is already there. It's bizarre that they'd remove it; certainly more bizarre than the idea that Microsoft is in it for the money.
